Bloody hell that's quick! How the hell do they get tooled up to knock these out so damn fast? Bracelet looks semi decent on that photo too! Though it will no doubt fall to bits after a couple of wears.

I imagine its pretty easy seeing as the case dimensions are just like the SS version of the Seamaster. The bracelet is probably more difficult and more than likely not the same design as the original.
The bracelet is a milenese mesh, which has been about for years so I guess they could have been making them with a friction catch for years, but the case is 42mm and also its thinner, the colours are unique. I guess the copies will just be a re-jigged 44mm smp? Available from a looky looky man near you.

    Looks great??

The replica in the pic is made of steel (and looks crap imo) I doubt that there are Ti replica out there.

They're actually a lot closer than you think.

People will probably hate me for this, and I'm sorry, but I recently entered the world of replica/fake watches. Yes, a lot of the industry is deplorable, but I was looking for a NTTD watch to add to my Bond display and I didn't want to leave my pricey Omega out in the open—it's not for the purpose of wearing it and aiming to deceive people that it's the real deal. So, I bought one and here is it next to my genuine NTTD.

    IMG-1656-copy.jpg

Case is titanium, weighs only 5 grams more than the gen case and overall looks pretty decent. Apparently there's a new version that makes the bezel numbers a little more accurate and apparently a titanium mesh bracelet (tapered, deployant clasp) to replace the steel one is a few months away.

Not that I have any knowledge of fake watches but the fake in this picture looks to be a 44mm case, which is what I assumed from the earlier post as to how the copies have got to market so quickly.

Blimey. The indices look a little rougher, as does the strap, but otherwise it's hardly night and day is it? I'm surprised at the colour matches: so close.

The 007 logo even looks a bit better on the fake! :)

I don’t know about its thickness as I don’t own any callipers, but its case width is the same as the genuine one, 42mm. The photo is just a little deceptive—it’s certainly not 44mm.

I really don‘t like the discussion of fakes here for various reasons.

First of all they are annoying to me.

Then there is always someone cheating others and pass them as the real deal*
Then these fakers are organized crime and I really don‘t want to support them in any kind of way.
And thirdly, EON is reading here and probably Omega, too.
AJB was shut down before because of copyright issues and I don‘t want to see this happening again.

There are tons of fake watch fora out there, there is no need to carry this topic to AJB.

Having said this, can you imagine Bond ( cinematic or novel) wearing/buying a fake watch and what would be his position about them?

    * we have many new members for every new movie.
Many of them are starting cheap and those fake watches will end up then for sale - here or somewhere else - disclosed as fakes or not!
On eBay for example, you are not allowed selling fakes, so people will have to find other channels.

Totally understood—end of discussion on my part then. My apologises for chiming in :)
  • emtiememtiem SurreyPosts: 5,686MI6 Agent
I think it’s fine to talk about them, we’re not even discussing where to find them. Pretending they don’t exist is a little silly.
  • HigginsHiggins GermanyPosts: 16,618MI6 Agent
    Well nobody is pretending anything.

This thread is about the NTTD movie watch which is hardly a fake.

And the business of fake watches is highly criminal.
Producing and distributing those in China is illegal by law!

If emtiem feels the need to discuss fake watches on AJB, open a new thread and see if it‘s accepted by a mod.

If people weren't allowed to talk about things that were illegal then those true crime podcasts wouldn't be doing too well! :D
I don't want one of those fakes, I know where the money is likely to be going and I know you can't even necessarily trust it not to fall to pieces or actually hurt you in some way, regardless I think it's interesting just how close a match they can get so quickly.

If Higgins doesn't want to talk about something he can just... not talk about it.

I can easily understand that not everybody can or want to spend some money on several real watches like Omega or Rolex on this forum, so I can understand that a true Bond collector who wants to display the most related items from a 007 movie is encline to buy such a replica watch......it doesn't hurt me if it's only for display purposes......

But don't hijack the thread to the original one....

Fakes are dodgy territory best avoided. Has to be said that for the cost of some of the fake watches out there, you can get a legitimate and horologically significant piece from another brand. Omega make some lovely watches, but so do many other more affordable brands. I can understand the homage watches existence, especially as you can look at a tried and trusted design and tweak it to your own taste and have a flavour of the original with a different overall perspective.

Yeah homages are fine generally although some of them certainly step over into 'fake with a different name on' territory (although I haven't seen many of even those that get as close as JTM's watch), but you can get, as we saw on that Aqua Terra thread at the moment, decent brands who make something with the same flavour but not identical design.
I wonder if there have been any brands making homages with an eye towards the NTTD model? I haven't been looking and I guess it's a little early.

You have to figure that the delay in the release of NTTD has given the legitimate homage makers (I'm thinking of Steinhart and others) a pretty big design and production window. It wouldn't surprise me if we see "inspired by" watches in the late fall.

I’ve contacted a couple of my local’ish boutiques recently (Sydney and Melbourne) and have been told that they have the Ti Milanese bracelets on order, but they don’t have an eta on delivery. Price will be around $2000AUD. So if anyone’s considering picking one up at some point, they’ll definitely be available, just no idea when that will be. I haven’t asked about the nato being available separately.

I quite agree. Fakes are treading (well, stamping all over really) on a company’s (protected) trademark.

Fakes are bad enough without the added possibility of someone then trying to pass it off as the real thing :#

I do understand how someone might want one for display purposes - but it’s STILL illegal...surely it’s better to create your own ‘prop’ watch - I’m sure that’s what the films do.

Yeah was it on this thread or another forum where someone had made his own display version just by having a printout for a dial, including hands? It actually looked pretty impressive! :D

emtiem Thank you, yes that was an unbranded seamaster that I added a printed dial with hands, new bezel insert and mesh strap.

I brought up the fake as a warning only. Be careful out there as the fakes are getting good. I would never buy one!

Fakes are becoming an interesting grey area in Bond fandom. In common parlance, fakes are also referred to as reps / replicas. And, for all intents and purposes, what the likes of NPeal are producing in their homage collections are replicas (discounting their screen accurate, in house pieces that we see in the likes of NTTD of course). They're not the genuine item but approximate copies - thus replicas or even licensed fakes.

The same can be said of many of the replicas we all buy in to and are alerted to via sites like AJB - the only major difference are the labels. A piece from Magnoli isn't labelled Tom Ford, an Omega fake certainly is. But I do feel there's a danger that in bringing licensed replicas of clothing to market, Eon is encouraging people to be comfortable with fakes and replicas.

Wow, there are so many wrong statements, I‘ve lost count!

    Fakes are fakes - period!

The problem with clothing is that it‘s almost impossible to go back and find THE one who invented a certain style. Thus clothing and the ever-cycling „who nicked from who“ is pointless.

If you put a brand name on any chosen item which is not yours, you are having a fake.

And fake watches are produced in the millions, industrially managed, distributed and sold!

And you don‘t believe for one second that EON is encouraging fakes of any kind unless you are just lying to yourself to be comfortable with the crap that the fakers are putting out.

Adding a false signature/brand name to anything is illegal. It doesn't matter with it's art, watches, electronics, or handbags. It's illegal.

Yeah it would have been nearly twenty years ago(!) and because someone stole some Eon script pages; technically it was copyright issues but that's because the copyright was broken right here, it's not really comparable to just talking about some copyright being broken. Us talking about the script theft here and now is more similar: I don't think Eon are going to shut us down because we're talking about it having happened! :D

I could imagine that someone on Omega‘s payroll may read here on AJB.

Now imagine that this is passed to the heads of Omega.
I guess that it wouldn‘t be long that Eon gets a call.

    Likely to happen? Maybe not?

Using the wobbly clothing analogy, I'm not sure you can copyright a shirt design; putting a counterfeit designer label in that shirt makes it a forgery, which makes it a crime.

N Peal's and OB's lines are very "inspired by," in some cases not even attempting to match the color. They aren't sticking Janzten labels on their swimwear.
