A bit chewy and repetitive. Not surprisingly as it basically consists of only one note :D

No, no- it uses the "devil's interval", a tritone which was forbidden in olden times. Very interesting musically. (Also used in "The Wolf Man")

Hope that you tell us more about the Devil‘s interval. Sounds interesting

Never understood the crazyness for Sophie Marceau.
She was gorgeous in La Boum ( the first) but then.....

She was excellent in BRAVEHEART, I thought.

I think she's excellent here, too.

Shirley Manson, like Robert Carlyle, is a Scot... the Scottish location is a good choice.

Wonderful to have back Michael Kitchen's Tanner.

M's speech closely tracks irl speeches made by heads of state after terrorist attacks.

    Brosnan overdoes his line "Tanner!"

Eilan Donnan castle. Excellent choice for Thaine.
The interior sets aren’t bad too.

It’s also nice to see a few other double ops in the briefing scenes.

Well, I did have lessons when I was a boy- but that of course was before the guitar was invented.

John Cleese's R is indistinguishable from Basil Fawlty and the various upper class twits he played in Python.

Martin Lewis’s cameo foreshadows Huw Edwards in SF.

The amount of archive footage for this scene must have taken ages.

    A very poignant exit.

Bernard Lee’s painting is a lovely touch.

Was never sure about this holograph of Reynard,
It has a Zombie like quality.

I love how Bernard Lee's portrait oversees this scene... as if he's looking over his compromised successor.

Bond's relationship with Judi Dench's M is relatively stable in this film; she trusts him enough to confide in him right away about her personal involvement.

This why M works here, we get to see the woman behind the boss. Dame Judi grabs every bit she is given and is Marvelous with it.

Sophie Marceau gives the best acting performance of any 'Bond girl' in the entire series imho (even though, technically speaking, the 'Bond girl' role in this film properly belongs more to Denise Richards).

Of all the allusions to Tracy's death in various films, this is the most downplayed/oblique.

Unfortunately the skiing scenes have not done by Bogner and are rather dull and disappointing!
