Re: Coronavirus

I have a question about all this....

Where I am, I went out to get my new watch today, and as is the norm, I put on my face mask.
I do every time I go out. But, I am seeing worryingly few people doing the same!
Maybe I have mis understood, but I thought if you are out, You maximise social distancing, and
wear a face covering.

What is happening where everyone else is?

This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

Re: Coronavirus

There is an easy explanation for this:
Idiots and morons!*

There is nothing else to say!

The internet is full with info like „we are poisoning us with CO by wearing masks“ and „we need immune reaction and masks are taking this away from us“.

That‘s exactly what happens when your education and information happens solely over facebook and Co. and not by watching the good main News Channels and Newspapers.

My second home is Hong Kong and when someone is sick - they are wearing a mask! Period!
Not to protect themselfs but to stop infecting others!

It‘s simple and not hard to understand!

And noone has  ever poisoned themselfs or damaged their brains by CO or destroyed their immune system.

So why anyone would complain and refuse wearing a mask is beyond my understanding.
The threat by the Virus is real and serious! We should be serious about it too.

Rant over!

* and sorry, if you think that there is not the need to wear a mask - you are one - no matter what infos your „opinion“ is based on.

Re: Coronavirus

I'm all for wearing masks in highly infected areas - it's a good thing. That being said, I've never seen anyone not working in the health service wearing masks here in Norway, be it on TV or real life. Perhaps it's because the infection rates never became high here and and few areas a re really densly populated?

755

Re: Coronavirus

How do you know that an area is „highly infected“?
You can‘t see if a person is infected (without symptoms).
Thus the rule for wearing masks is, you should do it when you can‘t keep other people 2 meters away from you and when you are inside of a public building.

Again, masks are not there to protect YOU, masks are worn to protect OTHERS

Re: Coronavirus

You can know if an region/town is highly infected based on extensive testing, the number of dead and hospitalized etc. There is no guarantee of course, but I there is very good reason to think where I live is far safer than say .... Stockholm.

TB2 and Higgins: Unfortunately you can’t cure stupid. There are a generation of people who have no respect for anyone else so will continue to do what they want, when they want, to the detriment of everyone else.

Talking of HK, Higgins, and sorry to hijack the thread, I fear that visiting this wonderful country again may well be impossible with the political climate as it is. How do you view this?

Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

Is it true Trump has said wearing a mask is a sign you're against him?

I have no idea, N24. But if he did, it’s a silly thing to say.

President Trump has contributed greatly to the Philippines , in terms of money and other aid, in the fight against this dreadful disease, so he is not regarded as all things evil to the majority in this country.

Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

Re: Coronavirus

I wear a mask when I am in any shop or even outside sometimes if I believe there are too many people. When I first put it on I was uncomfortable and thought I looked like a criminal, I also found it difficult to breathe, but this feelings soon passed. I have mentioned before that I help out with elderly people in the community and even when gardening for them and never coming into contact (because they are indoors) I still always wear a mask. I think more fuss is made because I almost never wear shoes when I am working in the gardens! When they see my bare feet I think many people think I cannot afford shoes!

I think it to be a show of politeness as much as anything else and tells people I wish them to be as safe as possible from any germs I may be breathing out. The habit of wearing a mask is one which I think I will continue until I believe it is safe not to rather than listening to advice on the virus.

I've always been really confused when I hear medical officials and politicians say that—masks are not worn to protect you but to protect others; but doesn't that also mean it protects you...you're one of the "others" when viewed from someone else's perspective  ajb007/confused

I'm glad to hear the US is contributing against Corona in the Philippines, because I'm worried China and Russia using the crisis to increase their soft power.
I found the story that's probably the basis of what I heard. Trump said some people are using masks to signal oposition to him.

Well, the common argument of the mask-refusers is  „ my risk - my choice“ or „I‘ll have to die at some point“ or the like.

That‘s why officials repeat on and on, that masks are not there mainly to protect you.
And if you are not wearing one, you put others in danger - and that „others“ can be you, if your counterpart refuses to wear a mask.

Re: Coronavirus

Sweden has on average 25 corona dead per day. It may not sound like a lot, but I think Norway has less than one per day. The other Nordic nations have low numbers too. It's of course still possible Sweden gets vindicated if a second wave of corona comes before any effective medicine is found and the Swedish population has gained mass imunity. The plan was to have mass imunity by May, but it's nowhere in sight. Instead Sweden has 52.8 corona dead per 100 000 people, Denmark 10.4, Finland 5.9, Norway 4.7 and Iceland 2.9.
The Swedish expert group under the leadership of Anders Tegnell still belive their strategy of keeping society open was correct and they only would have made "minor adjustments" if they knew what they now know from the start.
But if the corona virus had developed in the same way in Sweden as it has in Norway the number of dead would have been about 500 (adjusted for the size of the populations), but in reality Sweden's number is about 5200!
That's a huge responisibility.  ajb007/crap

Re: Coronavirus

Sweden just decided to require guests in bars and restaurants have to keep a distance of at least one meter. About time, most countries  with the same level of infection closed their bars long ago.

I am shocked hearing about Corona Parties where a price money was promised to the first one to catch the virus.

Pretty sure that ER healthworkers have a strong opinion about this...
