The Ipcress File is a cracker of a film and one (with many Michael Caine films) I have on DVD.

    7.00pm GMT (assuming that's when you are starting) is 5.00am where I am but if I'm up and about I'll come to the party. -{

I no longer know if I can take part in watching Ipcress with you. My sister and her family will come visiting from Bergen tomorrow and I don't know if I'll be able to have the TV for myself.

    Welcome to my world, N24.

I know. But my story has an unusual twist. I've offered up my house to my sisters's families this summer (I'm washing it as we ...type) and moving into the basement of my parents' house. It's partly because the visitors need more space than I do and partly because this way they can visit without breaking the Corona rules.

How about watching „After the Sunset“ next?

In case we watch Hitchcock's The 39 Steps together at some point and you don't have a copy, for all fellow Brits, it's showing on BBC2 later today at 1.15pm.

    Thanks!
Can I suggest (again) that our next movie is light hearted- Austin Powers, Matt Helm, Johnny English?
  • HigginsHiggins GermanyPosts: 16,618MI6 Agent
I own all Austin Powers movies but only the last Jonny English movie.
    Matt Helm, I don‘t own

I'm the opposite- I have all the Helms but only the first Johnny English. (All the Austin Powers)

Can I make a case for Our Man Flint or In Like Flint, if we're going down the lighthearted vein? Or alternatively, how about one if the MI movies, like the last one?

I'm all for a comedy this summer, but I only have a few of them. I don't have "After the sunset", but I remember all of Salma Hayek's scenes :D

As a suggestion, if we agree on a film with a week's notice, anyone who doesn't own it could get it on amazon or eBay.

I'm happy to go with any film, starting with Monday 20 July, how about with Austin Powers? Or if anyone else is recording it today, the 39 Steps?

Some Austin Powers movies and all the Johnny English ones are on Sky Cinema, if that helps.

If you want comedy, how about staying with Michael Caine and watching The Italian Job? Or does everyone want to stay with the spy theme?

I think it's smart deciding the movie a week beforehand to allow people to get hold of it. Sadly I probably won't be able to take part in a week or two because I've let out my house to visitors.

Next week, THE HUNT FOR HIGGINS
A group of intrepid AJB'ers go in search of their film pickin' guy, who went missing during "Austin Powers". Barbel strums a guitar as they wander around watch shops; Gymkata shows pictures to green trainer salesmen; Sir Miles laughs evilly and strokes a white cat; TB2 provides virtual drinks; Number24 bravely checks out passing cruise ships.
Will they find him before next Friday? Tune in here!

Well, men in my age tend to snooze off in front of the telly ( when there is no nudity on the screen) and Barbel should know that better than anyone else :o

Should we watch "Austin Powers in Goldmember" on Friday?
Should we watch something else entirely?
Should we call it a day with the groupwatching?
  • HigginsHiggins GermanyPosts: 16,618MI6 Agent
    1. I‘d continue with Goldmember in 14 days just in order to build up a bit of demand
    2. we have tried Classics, we have tried comedies and nothing really worked
    3. we should call it a day after Goldmember and November Man/After the sunset, I keep on just to make Barbel happy ;)

I think we should try one of the WWII mission movies, my favourite is The Guns of Navarone.

Those sound good. For a war movie with more direct Bond connections, how about the Guy Hamilton-directed and Saltzman-produced Battle of Britain (1969), maybe?
