150 bottles of hand? I've never been to a British supermarket and now I'm very happy about that  ajb007/lol

Re: Random Chat!!! (All Welcome!)

Did anyone here watch the live Q&A/Goldeneye watchalong wiith Pierce Brosnan? He was clearly overwhelmed.

He says that it  isn't easy to watch his own films.

Also, i think people were sending him questions he'd been asked before.

Have you ever heard of the Emancipation Proclamation?"

I thought he looked rather uncomfortable doing it.

Also i think a lot of actors don't like watching themselves in films, because they worry about what they could've done differently.

Finally some good news for Higgins! Berlin Brandenburg Airport opens up in October, only nine years and lots of Euros late. This airport has done more to stop Germany's uncharming reputation of efficiency and being coldly calculating than anything else ever. It even starts up in the middle of an international travel ban. Congratulations  ajb007/biggrin

Yes. He got better from all his health problems and his drug addiction. Earlier this month he celebrated his 131st birthday with his dog Blondi who is now 550 years old in dog years  ajb007/lol

Re: Random Chat!!! (All Welcome!)

I hope everyone is well, and that you all and your loved ones are not (and will not be) affected by the virus.

I have just finished an extended period of 14 hour night duties (plus commuting!) and am completely tired even after sleeping until only a couple of hours ago! At this rate of working I will soon be able to afford to build my own Bond villain lair. I will accept applications for henchmen (and women!) so if you are interested in living in an underground complex, and think you have henchmen skills, please contact me with your details and I will arrange an interview!

You must not be allergic to cats!

Uniform, meals and accommodation provided.

Self employed. You will be paid a commission on any revenge, extortion, and counter intelligence jobs completed (strictly no terrorism though!)

Until then. Stay safe.

Re: Random Chat!!! (All Welcome!)

ajb007/lol  Good luck, Joshua. Alas, I'm a shade too old to apply for a henchman job.

Many years ago I did similar work to what you are doing and I know how demanding it can be. All power to you.

Re: Random Chat!!! (All Welcome!)

I asked a question while some of us watched FRWL last night, bus sadly we were sidetracked by the movie and the sad fact that I wote Fleming wrong  ajb007/amazed .
I wondered how the people who worked on the Enigma code machine reacted when they read or watched FRWL? Many of us know the Germans thought the Enigma code was never broken while the fact that the British broke the code was one of the most closely guarded secrets of WWII. Many of us also know Ian Fleming was one of the few who were allowed to know this. I picture one of those few Germans and British who knew about Enigma sitting in the cinema going: "Hold on, that muct be ……."
Did they suspect Fleming was in on the secret? Do we know of any reactions to the Enigma/Lektor link?
What do you think the reactions were?

Re: Random Chat!!! (All Welcome!)

No idea, I'm afraid. I don't know how secret the  Enigma was when Fleming wrote the book (1956- he says so in the foreword) or any reactions when it was published the next year.
In case anyone hasn't read it, Fleming calls the machine the Spektor. For obvious reasons, that's changed to the Lektor in the movie which may or may not have influenced Thomas Harris in naming his Hannibal character years later.

Re: Random Chat!!! (All Welcome!)

I've posted a question on a history forum on how long htis was secret. I haven't seen any replies yet, but I feel fairly certain Ultra was secret for years after the war. The question is for how long. I think a Norwegian inteligence organisation called XU was secret until the early 1990's even though XU stopped existing in 1945. Enigma and the methods used to crack it was I should think the basis of a lot of coding and decoding work in the cold war, so there were better reasons to keep that secret.

Re: Random Chat!!! (All Welcome!)

Here's the best reply so far:

"Although some secrets began to leak out begining in the 1960s, at least some aspects were kept classified into the 1970s, others until the 1980s, and others as late as the early 2000s. For that matter there might still be some secrets that haven't been released yet. There was also some successful Soviet espionage as early as 1943 and continuing after the war."

We only got the outer edge of it, just a bit of rain and a little windy, but it went north and they’ve had it pretty bad up there.

Strange lights in the sky over Cebu last night.

These were stationary, so probably some sort of atmospheric anomaly, maybe due to the typhoon that passed.
Some are saying a planetary conjunction between Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.
