Been to a Bond filming location?

Has anyone ever been to locations featured in Bond movies? I've been to Eilean Dolan castle in Scotland, which was a set in The World is Not Enough, and also the River Thames. I've been to other cities featured in Bond films, such as New York and New Orleans, but not to the places where filming actually took place. There are many, many locations featured in Bond films that I would like to visit. I'd love to go to Jamaica, Rio, Istanbul...well actually the list is endless. My LAST choices of Bond locations to visit would be Afghanistan (I'm not 100% sure if TLD was actually filmed there, in fact I'm betting it only fictionally took place there) and Harlem.

Been to a couple of notable ones

Iguaco falls (sp?) - Moonraker - absolutely stunning natural sight

Ko Tapu - "Bond Island" in MWTGG

Aside from these 2, just the sights of London and the casino in Monaco i think.

Mainly London, the chalk mines in Suffolk I think. Amberley (sp?) thats the place, featured as the mine in AVTAK. There is of course also the Aldershot tank testing ground which you can go and walk your dog on at anytime, a lot of sequences have been filmed here, including the hovercraft chase in DAD.

I have also visited Himeji castle which was used in YOLT, I only realised once I returned home and looked through my photos!

I think this topic should be moved though as it is Bond orientated.

Mostly London for me! I've been many, many times!
Being that London is my favorite place! I've also been to the Nene Valley Steam Railway in Peterborough, where the train sequence in Octopussy was filmed!
  • SiCoSiCo EnglandPosts: 1,371M
Naomi_Fan did you happen to get any photographs of the Nene Valley, or the location?

The Goldeneye sequence was also filmed their, it would be interesting to see the bridge etc.

If you do have any could you let me know? Thanks.

I envy you guys, especially the ones who live in London (evoking images of Peter Pan, James Bond and the Italian Job), and those who've been to Scaramanga's island and Monaco!

Along with London, Piz Gloria is on my wish list!

As for me, sigh, my Bond locales are uneventful; the Trans-America Pyramid Building in San Francisco, on which an antenae almost gave Roger Moore a high altitude sex change :)); Fisherman's Wharf, of course; the SF City Hall, the cantilever bridge from the chase scene and Silicon Valley, which a few years ago contributed to the highly congested traffic jams in the Bay Area where I live.

I have been to the boxite mine in Jamaica. It is overgrown with trees and etc. I saw the house they used in LALD that Solitaire lived in. I also visited the beach where they filmed the famous Honey Rider scenes as well.

Wow! Did you get to visit Fleming's house, Goldeneye? That's my prime target were I to visit Jamaica.

As for Piz Gloria I was around the area before I was really a fan, unfortunatley it was closed at the time.

I have searched out a few of the locations when overseas.
    The include, London (so many!!!),
Istanbul TWINE,FRWL (including ferry past little lighthouse),
NYC Harlem (Didnt find the fillet of soul!) LALD
    HongKong Harbour YOLT,
    Paris (Eiffel- AVTAK) ,San Fran
    Prague TLD,
    Moscow - red sq. (FRWL)
    Vegas - DAF
    Venice - MR
    East/W Germany (OP)
    Mexico city (LTK)

    and my absolute favourite...

TSWLM - the night show at the Pyramids!!! I swear it has not changed in 25 years! The show was almost identical - and it felt eerily like i was in a Bond film!!!
Also - the bit filmed at Aswan temple.

I'm sure there are more. Cant remember if they got to the Greek Islands or Thailand in Bond???

RIO is the one which comes to mind i desperately want to see next!

Couldn't get to Goldeneye. I was there on a cruise stop. After seeing those places, I didn't have enough time to get up there. From where most of the other sites were, it was about 40 minutes away.

Si, I cant believe there was ever a time that you were NOT a Bond fan?! Surely you were Born into fandom inherited down a long and noble bloodline of pure bred Bondonians created by EON itself?

I have been to London many many many times (well it only takes me 20 mins to get there). I used to go to Holliwell Bay for holidays when I was a kid, thats where they filmed the beach and surfing scenes in DAD.

My mate Chris' uncles worked as plane handlers and where consultants on the pre-titles of TND, the plane Bond is in was theirs actually. He brought photos into school years ago to show me the shots they had taken of Pierce, brown leather jacket and all. In fact when Pierce was in the cockpit standing and shooting the plane started to move and his uncle got the honour to shout at Bond to "GET YOUR FOOT OFF THE PEDAL!"

I live very close to the former USAF base at Upper Heyford in Oxfordshire. This was used as the Feldstadt base for the later scenes of Octopussy.

When me and Mrs Rush go to our favourite restaurant, we always drive past the road junction that Bond turns into in his stolen Alfa Romeo, where he almost collides with Kamal Khan and Gobinda who are making their escape before the bomb goes off.

Just London for me, I went in November of 2002,
while there I saw several filming locations from DAD, including Buckingham Palace (Graves parachute jump location., Westminster bridge, (Bond discovers door to underground MI6 base.)and
MI6 headquarters (Also seen in GE and the precredits of TWINE.) I also saw Whitehall (Offices of the British armed Forces, featured in TND Bond drives his Aston Martin there from Oxford.) and the Malaysia House in Trafalgar Square ( Was used as Universal Exports office in TLD, it is now the offices of the Malaysia Tourisum Promotion Board, hence the name. )

I've been to New York City, Vegas, and San Fransisco. All excellent tourist destinations, I might add.

One place that I would love to go: Corfu (FYEO), it doesn't get much better than that.

I have been to the cabana where a scene from Thunderball was filmed (also the famous scene from NSNA "But my martini is still dry..." was filmed at same cabana). Have been to Circus, Circus from DAF (was there about 8 years after filming). Have been to Fisherman's Wharf in SF (AVTAK). Spent some time at the British Colonial Hotel in Nassau (Thunderball and NSNA). Last November, I was in the Fountainbleu Hotel in Miami (Goldfinger). It's a hobby of mine to go on holiday to Bond locations.

Just thinking about locations... not a location, but has anyone ever personally met any of the actors from the JB movies? I met Geoffrey Holder (Baron Samedi) in college. Was the Uncola Man also!

as far as I know, just Vegas. I lived there when
they filmed DAF, but I had no idea that Bond even
existed back then. I was about 10.

I'm sure I'd heard of James Bond, but it really
    didn't mean anything to me.

have they done any other filming in the States?

When in London, don't forget the Brent Cross shopping centre car park which was used to great effect in TND.

I also drove on the Sardinian roads where Naomi's helicopter was trying to shoot holes in the Lotus. I was in a rented Fiat Panda so it was difficult to recreate that real Bond flavour - it was white though. Couldn't find the little pier that the car is launched from and wondered if it had been specially built for the film in an area that had deep enough water and a long enough approach?

What I want to know is that Has Anyone been to a Bond filming Location, whilst a Bond film is being filmed?

When my brother was working in London in 99, his office backed onto the thames and they saw the boat chase being filmed all day. I would have given anything to be there that day.

    Hello Everyone,
I live in the San Francisco bay area so I have seen a few different locations for AVTAK. More notably, however, I went to Venice while in Europe for a month and saw a few locations for MR filming such as the Danieli Hotel, where Bond had his first fling with Holly Goodhead with their first kiss with the Grand Canal in the background and the some of the canals featured during the Gondola or "Bondola" chase, also St Marc's Square where the Bondola turns into a hovercraft. I have been to London a couple times and saw all the obvious sights that were just wonderful like the River Thames and Parliament, also been to Paris and the Eiffel Tower from AVTAK. Great trip!

I went to London, Nassau (I saw the cave where they filmed a scene in TB), New York (many times), and Key West (I went to Hemingway's House). I also have gone to the Fountainebleu Hotel many times as I live nearby. I want to go to Jamaica and see my idol Ian Fleming's house. And BTW Happy Birthday Ian!!!

I also live in the San Francisco Bay Area so scenes from AVTAK would be the only Film Locations I've been to. But hopefully in time I'll get to some other Bond locations.

I've been to Istanbul, the Hagia Sophia.
Venice in 1987 i believe when Pink Floyd gave their last concert there, remember it being rather smelly in August.
I've been to Andermatt in Switzerland.
I've been to Athos mountain in Greece.
Visited Berlin numerous times including Checkpoint Charlie.
Been to Paris and Vienna on occasion.
And as i live in Cornwall now i've been to Eden project and in the Biodomes.

I've been to pretty much all of the San Francisco locations used in AVTAK as I happen to live in the Silicon Valley area.

I've visited Paris (how many tourists don't visit the Eiffel Tower, seriously?), London (the Eye in particular), and Himeji Castle. I'm not sure whether or not certain parts of YOLT were. When I was much younger I practically lived part time in Hong Kong, where my grandmother's old apartment was right across the Bottoms Up club of TMWTGG fame. Sometimes we'd have tea at the Peninsula Hotel, which was a real treat for me. In those days I think they still had the green Rolls Royces at the Peninsula.

Alas, I just missed out on an opportunity to visit Vienna, Prague, Berlin, and other central European cities this summer.
Flattery will get you nowhere, but don't stop trying.
