I think you may be referring to the 1989 ITV series of six episodes starring Simon Dutton. I have never seen any of them so I am just guessing.

Thanks Moore Than, That's it hadn't thought about it in years untill all the

On further investigation, I have discovered a 1987 pilot TV episode (starring Andrew Clarke) that aired on CBS in America. It was entitled The Saint in Manhattan. The Saint drove a black Lambo Countach 5000QV.

An interview with John Martin, co-producer of the new pilot episode. Amongst other things he talks about what drew him to the project, locations, Simon Templar's social scene, and the cast.

Not seen this guy before, not too bad but it's his voice I want to know: Templar always had a light, liltish voice you'd imagine, very English but classless. Personally I'd have thought Hugh Grant might have made a good Templar in a 20-year franchise starting from Four Weddings and set in the mid-30s going to the early 50s, like Indy. Dial down the poshness a bit so he's more like in About a Boy maybe, but he looks the part. In his day, Dirk Bogarde would have been the perfect fit.

Looking at his imdb page, is there a reason why he hasn't been flagged up as a Bond contender?

Re: Recommend "The Saint" or not?

A trailer for the new pilot TV episode of The Saint has been released. Apparently, there is interest form US networks. Roger Moore is a co-producer, he and Ian Ogilvy appear in cameo roles.

Re: Recommend "The Saint" or not?

Just watched this on YouTube and I think it looks AWESOME!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhEI_jDRZw8

Listen, just listen to Adam Rayner's accent....wtf have we not discussed him as a successor to DC?
Got a very Brosnanesque style.  Great looks, great action moves and that bod when he gets out of the pool...yummy!
Trouble is he's 36 now which means he may be just too old when Craig finishes his term.

From what I can glean off the Internet, the pilot still hasn't been picked up by a TV network yet though. Anyone else got news?

Still looks great, I wish one of the stations would pick it up.

Looks pretty good to me. Would definitely like to see it.

Earlier this year I made my interest in The Saint a tad more permanent...

Re: Recommend "The Saint" or not?

Thought I would revive this thread. Anyone know if there are any plans to screen The Saint on DVD or release on DVD?

Interesting pint that I read somewhere, but I can't find the article now....there never was a pilot fully filmed, just the trailer! Anyone know anything??

If the full episode was filmed and completed postproduction, it would be a shame if it never saw the light of day.

Was the Saint supposed to be getting rebooted?

Re: Recommend "The Saint" or not?

The last I read was a pilot had been made but as yet no big
Production/studio had taken it up. Sad because " The Saint" is a
Fantastic character and with his " is he a criminal or not " aspect
Would work well today. Almost a Batman figure.
When reading Bond as a kid, I also read loads of " The Saint " books.  ajb007/biggrin

ajb007/lol  Yes I even watch the old George Sanders  "Saint" films.  ajb007/biggrin
On a side note, late one night I came across a series of old

Although still fun, I enjoyed them too.

Re: Recommend "The Saint" or not?

It would appear that the pilot episode of The Saint starring Adam Rayner has come to nothing. To my knowledge, no sign that it will be taken up by any TV broadcaster for a series. Certainly not by ITV(UK), they have their own plans for Simon Templar. A pilot episode should be ready to film next year, says Ed Whitmore who is writing the new drama with Chris Lunt.

Re: Recommend "The Saint" or not?

I would welcome any return of Simon Templar to our screens, he's been off them for far too long.

I think Roger was great in the role, but I grew up with Ian Ogilvy and as a young boy, he was just like James Bond to me. I still enjoy watching them. They have a lovely feel. ajb007/martini

There was talk a few years back of a Persuaders film starring Ben Stiller and Steve Coogan but it came to nothing.

Probably just as well because I have an awful lot of affection for The Persuaders TV series, it made a big impression on me as I was entering my teen years. Roger and Tony were great together, loved the cars, loved John Barry's theme, loved Ken Thorne's incidental music. Undoubtedly, it remains a big personal favourite with a high sentimental value.

I did a doubletake when I first saw this, because I know nothing about this subject, until I read it again and realized you were talking about British Leyland, the other BL! As my wife would say, that's what I get for thinking anyone cares what I have to say about anything! ajb007/lol
