Topic: Favourite Food

Everyone is interested in food and as the good people of AJB represent different parts of the world I was curious to know what everyone's favourite meal is.

I would go for a big plate of spaghetti and as a staunch veggie it would of course be meat free.

Re: Favourite Food

Well, my favorite food would have to be Spaghetti Bolognese and as I'm a staunch non-vegetarian ajb007/tongue it would most certainly have meat. In fact my favorite food is my mother's Spaghetti Bolognese. I don't care what anyone says, my mother's Spaghetti Bolognese is the best. ajb007/wink

Re: Favourite Food

Probably an authentic chimichanga--meaning the kind you can only get in the chimi's birthplace, southeastern Arizona, not the bland stuff you get at those generic Tex-Mex places.  Filled with carnitas, deep-fried, smothered in fresh enchilada sauce. . .man, I need to get back to Tucson fast!

HB, I had a feeling when I saw that you posted in this topic that the word 'chimichanga' was going to be there ajb007/wink

You're right, of course! There's nothing quite like a huge chile con carne chimi liberally topped with cheese and enchilada sauce...not to mention a cool margarita alongside!

Re: Favourite Food

I would say Eggs Benedict which I can attribute to James Bond.  In one of the novels he orders Eggs Benedict and when I read it I wondered what it was.  So when I had the opportunity I tried them and loved them.  Can't eat them too often though, unless you want your arteries to harden.

Re: Favourite Food

Off the top of my head I love when I can cook myself Garlic Shrimp Pasta. If I can't have that good 'ol Pasta with Mainara and Garlic Bread will fill my belly fine. Or maybe some Pizza from my favorite family owned italian restaurant.

Some people would complain even if you hang them with a new rope

Re: Favourite Food

I like Chicken Alfredo, Macaroni (shells and cheese), Pepperoni pizza, pita bread with hummus. but my favourite meal of all time is Mashed potatoes w/ gray, chicken legs, buttered biscuits and baked beans from KFC.

Would that be food or women?

Re: Favourite Food

Picking your favorite dish is like picking your favorite movie, impossible to narrow it down to one. So, my top three are:

- Filet mignon served with sauce bordelaise and a side of baked stuffed shrimp (I love surf & turf).

- Sauteed shrimp, scallops and mushrooms over ziti in a marinara sauce (if you're ever at Joe Tecce's in Boston, you have to try this one).

- A good old fashioned lobster roll.

Both.My tastes are fairly catholic. But since the topic is food,I'm as fond of spaghetti (which I enjoy making) as I am of huevos rancheros,Panamanian empanadas and most forms of seafood.I like all kinds of stuff.

Re: Favourite Food

I'm a steak person. Good steak is what REALLY gets me going. And with a little Foie Gras on the side... mmm.

Re: Favourite Food

Impossible to choose one but I can narrow it down a little ...

Chateaubriand or Beef Wellington are firm favourites when it comes to beef ( with a large glass of Cabernet Sauvignon) otherwise I love Indian food, especially a good chicken jalfrezi or chicken tikka masala ( with a Kingfisher beer)

Kingfisher beer you say, haven't tried that one.  If I see it I will try it.  Anything like Guinness, which is my favorite.

Nothing like Guinnes. Its a larger type beer, a bit heavier than Bud. I discovered it in India and I have it everytime I go for an Indian meal. I have seen it very rarely in our supermarkets. I cant really describe it, but whatever is in it though goes really well with spicy food!

Curry and a pint! Class! ajb007/biggrin  As with Barbel, is this where all the British folk default to our adopted national food?  I was thinking along the lines of Indian too, what a stereotype we've become!

Re: Favourite Food

I enjoy a variety of foods - most pasta dishes, souvlaki, fried rice, lobster, hamburgers - but I have a special spot for chicken.

My ideal Saturday night dinner: roast chicken, mashed potato (gravy optional), beans and carrots, and either mushroom soup or chilled champagne. ajb007/biggrin

Re: Favourite Food

Anything from the Greek islands.

But I will kill for Pastichio (Greek Lasagna), Dolmades (Stuffed Grape Leaves), and any of our salads. However the olive oil, tomatoes, cucumbers, Capari, and feta must be Grecian. The American produce just doesn't have the same taste. Different soil.

Also Souvlaka and a few Gryos = paradise. Top it off with about four or five shots of Ouzo. ajb007/martini
