James Bonds Navy Uniform

Does anyone have any good screen caps (or just info) on the Dress Navy Uniform Bond wears (either Brosnan or before)?

I'm especially interested in the service ribbons he has.

Thanks!

There's a good picture on the YOLT page of The James Bond International Fan Club website at:

Hope this helps. 007 is wearing a number of ribbons - not sure what the medals are for though. Any Royal Navy experts out there?

    Cheers,

If the above link doesn't work try:

    http://www.007.info/

and select You Only Live Twice from the list of films on the left hand side.

There is no 'Special Boat Squadron' dress uniform, as such. Brosnan wears the Uniform of a Royal Navy Commander, but he does have some Special Forces Insignia on it (A Prime Example being the inverted SAS Parachute Wings)

Two of the medal ribbons are:

General Service Medal 1962 - This is usually awarded for service in Northern Ireland, but there are other clasps for it, such as "Southern Iraq and Turkey"

    and

The NATO Star - This is awarded for service in The Former Yugoslavia between 1991 to date.

They were the only two ribbons I recognised, because I hold both of these medals myself.

Hope that helps (a little bit)

Wow...havent checked in on this in a while...thanks for all the great info guys!

Did this costume for Hallowe'en this year...just went with some random ribbons (tried to get ones close to what was in the Connery pic on the front of the newspaper in YOLT. and when I couldn't find some, I went with what I thought Bond should have!)

And yes..Crowe is my last name :)

The best looker in Navy uniform is RM, PB looked like a loser in TND lol

There should be a number of stills of Roger in uniform for SWLM available, though the only one I have is with his topcoat in place.

I've never really paid attention, is the uniform fairly consistent from Connery to Moore to Brosnan in terms of details like the ribbons? I would think the cut wouldn't change much, or am I mistaken?

It was a very tight cut in TND. Compared with connerys and rog's

"On the first two occasions, You Only Live Twice and The Spy Who Loved Me, Bond has no extra insignia or emblems on his uniform. This indicates that he is not in any specialist part of the RN; for instance if he was in the Submarine Service he would be wearing a badge showing two dolphins (as can be seen on Captain Benson's uniform in The Spy Who Loved Me). In You Only Live Twice, Bond is wearing ten medal ribbons in three rows. This seems quite excessive, especially since the British Armed Forces generally only award medals for campaigns. By the time of the Roger Moore film, this was reduced to one row, consisting of just two medals. One of these is the purple and green General Service Medal (GSM), which is awarded for service in campaigns for which there are no specific decorations (for instance Northern Ireland or Borneo).

In Tomorrow Never Dies, Bond's medal count had increased back to three rows. These include another appearance for the GSM, as well as the Rhodesia Medal, meaning that he was in active service during the transition to Zimbabwe in 1979-80 (presumably between those Drax and ATAC affairs!), and the Distinguished Service Cross. However, perhaps the most surprising medal is the red and white Order of the British Empire (OBE) ribbon, a major award which is also available to civillians."
