An excellent article - but I'm more than a little peeved that when AJB gets a mention it's for a negative comment, seems like a cheap shot and your much better than that Dr. S.

I don't know, it seems alright to me - that kind of stuff was said, and its a genuine quote which serves as quite a microcosm for a lot of the negativity. But seeing as that quote is only there to show the contrast between opinion then and now, something positivie from the same source would have been nice.

I understand you being upset at the mention of AJB. But the website was not negative, just a disgruntled fan. I basically wanted to mention the source website so that others who have never been to it can link to it. It was never meant to be a 'cheap shot'.

Of course, if you want me to remove the link, I can do it to respect your site. But I feel that those who have never been here can find out if they like it or not on their own.

But think on the bright side, I did not link anything to MI6. Only CommanderBond, and that was for the Raymond Benson quote.

All and all, I enjoy reading comments from all three sites. Having been in some debates between fanatical Bond fans from each and every one. Keeps the blood flowing.

I wouldn't take down the article, Dr. S--it's very comprehensive, informative, and entertaining. So we only get a mention when one of our members spouts off. . .big deal. You were nice enough to provide a link, so someone can come here and see what we're really like!

I'm not upset at the mention of AJB at all - I, personally, just would have liked a positive comment from AJB as well - we do allow people to have opinions here

To be fair it is made clear that the words are those of a 'disgruntled fan', with AJB merely being mentioned as the avenue through which he registered his evident disgust.

Overall Dr Shatterhand, I felt that was an interesting article with a superlative level of research. With an editor's perusal I can definitely envisage It's a Mad, Mad, Mad Royale being reprinted in a published magazine.

Excellent read, Dr! I especially enjoyed the tidbits about the filming of the live-version of CR. The fact that lines had to be snipped here and there explains alot about the version I saw!

Wasn't that a quote used in one of the early, post-announcement articles by the BBC or The Times?

Superb article,Dr.S!Well-researched and about as complete as anyone could want.Please don't let any complaints about the brief negative quote about Daniel Craig from AJB bother you.It's a solid representation of what many people were saying about Craig when he was first announced as the new 007.This kind of complaint was posted on all of the James Bond websites at that time.

Your article has wonderful illustrations and plenty of in-depth information.In fact,it's probably as close to being the last word on the Feldman Casino Royale as anything could hope to be.

Thanks Willie. The article has been a labour of love.

I have had to do some revisions on it, though notably minor in a trivial way. One is that Peter Lorre did not walk off the set after dying in the 1954 TV version. I found info about that from two sources which ended up incorrect. One reader emailed me and told me that I was wrong. After verifying it by contacting Spyguise, I have since corrected it. (Well, you can't win them all" - Bond: Thunderball)

The second misinformation was that the distribution rights to NSNA was won by MGM from TaliaFilms in 1997 and not 1999 when the Sony case was dropped. Yet another source I got that from was incorrect. It has since been remedied.

are you sure? the TV special is included as a bonus on the DVD of the 1967 David Niven version
I remember Lorre falling in a chair, presumably dead, and then opening his eyes as Cardsharp Jimmy Bond and the other characters moved to stageright, then Lorre getting up and walking off stageleft
meybe I drempt it but someone else who has the DVD could check

I just watched the live CR on the David Niven version DVD a few weeks back. The last shot we/I saw of Peter Lorre was his conceding defeat while finger his hat brim on the table in front of him. I suspected he was reaching for the razor blade that was said to be stashed in there, but the show ended with Jimmy Bond wiping his brow or something like that.

In the Spyguise VHS version (they cannot make a DVD due to legal reasons), Peter Lorre makes one last attempt and is shot a second time by Nelson. Approximately 60 seconds is missing from the DVD version, but not enough to really make me want to cough up 19.95 for the VHS version.

Perhaps I can find a copy on ebay for less.
