Topic: "Diddy aims to be first black Bond"

I know we can all sleep soundly in our beds tonight knowing that's the more chance of Tony Blair becoming Bond, but "Diddy" (I mean, honestly, what's with such a stupid name?) think's he's Bond material. ajb007/rolleyes

Other than being the epitome of crass, tasteless "bling" (how vulgar), there's really very little redeeming about the man.  Just horrific.

I actually don't mind him. I'm not a fan of rap music, but if there were to be a black Bond, I wouldn't object to it being him. Hopefully, though, there will never be a black Bond. ajb007/wink

Why does everyone seem to forget we've already had a black Bond: [i]Action Jackson with Carl Weathers [1988]. Pretty much bombed; I don't think black people want to see a black lead acting white any more than white people want a white lead acting black ... unless either is for comic/ironic effect.

I dunno, Diddy is British and everything...
oh, wait... no...

Re: "Diddy aims to be first black Bond"

This is the dumbest idea I have ever heard.

James Bond is not black, plain and simple. This is not some role with unspecified personal and physical characteristics who can be occupied by anyone, like President of the United States, for which the occupation of the role by a black person would mark some type of great social progress. James Bond is a white character, plain and simple. Black actors CANNOT play the role. If you want a black secret agent, that's fine, but it can't be Bond.

P.Diddy is a no-talent ass-clown hack who has done more to undermine the artistic credibility of the hip-hop genre (which used to be a great musical genre with power social and political messages) than anyone else. He should stick to selling his soul to Satan for cash.

Re: "Diddy aims to be first black Bond"

I took a picture of the news article and sent a pix message to my wife and my best friend. I included text that resembled "No way in f****** H***!"

I stand by what I say. I have no respect for Diddy's "music" or "acting skills." I'd rather watch Sylvester Stallone put on the tuxedo.

Pffft, he can say whatever he wants.  I man who changes his name more often than he would his underpants, I think theres only a certain level of seriousness this guy gets.

Of course where is he now?  Parodying himself in Arrested Development.

Lucille 2: Do you like ham?
Carl Weathers: No, I love it.

Re: "Diddy aims to be first black Bond"

Singers seem to think they have what it takes to be Bond for some reason. Though that freak Diddy is no ****ing singer. Remember that Fat Dancer from Take That is a few years agao saying he wanted a chance{:)

Re: "Diddy aims to be first black Bond"

Actually, there already is a black Bond, and he's terrific in his own right, although in a different way: "Easy" Rawlins, the private eye-fixer of Walter Mosley's books. Anyone who hasn't already seen "Devil in a Blue Dress" with Denzel Washington as Rawlins and Don Cheadle as his pal "Mouse" has to check it out. Great movie, but it didn't do well at the box-office. It's a shame, because they should do more of them.

Awesome film, which Cheadle steals.  Never saw a Bond parallel, though -- more like a black Sam Spade.

No, of course. I just meant in terms of the hero being a very resourceful guy who gets the job done. I think he could be a household name if they made some more Rawlins films. Have you ever checked out the novels? It's criminal no one has made the sequel, "A Red Death." He's such a great character, and I love the way Mosley injects him into situations that reflect American history: the red scare, the civil rights movement, etc ...

Well, I did say if there were to be a black Bond. I don't want a Black Bond, but if there were one, I wouldn't mind Diddy at all, whom I thought was terrific in Monster's Ball.

Let's not forget that historical moment in the entertainment industry when Puff Daddy formally changed his name to diddy. I think the violets were blooming in the spring and old school heralds were trumpeting the call to arms. What a momentous day that was.

Yes indeed...although he'll have to change it back to his birth name to play Bond.  After all, we all know the best James Bond is Sean Co- ajb007/biggrin
