As many of you may know this is the affectionate name of the Indian film industry in Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay).
Apart from a few art films about real life, proverty, politics etc, the mainstream movies are known as 'Masala' films. 'Masala' is the indian word for spice(s). A food dish is fully prepared once all the Masala is present.
Hence a typical Bollywood film will have a bit of everything ie comedy, tragedy, dance, song, revenge, boy meets girl, family themes, friendship etc. ie a masala mix.
In the 60's and 70's the films in the main portrayed village life, small city life with stories around bandits, outlaws, land grabs etc.
In the 80's the stories moved to the bigger cities and reflected corrution in office, law, society, politics etc
In the 90's a new younger generation of actors and actresses appeared (in their mid 20's as opposed to the 1960's late 30's/early forties) and their college type romantic antics were set around Europe, Switzerland, Holland, UK etc.
Now in the millenium, with a younger trendier breed of writer and director and actor, the canvas is now as far as Australia, Brazil, USA, Middle East and Europe and these films are much slicker and high tech and in the main cater for the westernised tastes of the 'ex-pat' community, as opposed to the rural farming indian person.
The above was by way of an introduction to a clip from the 2006 film 'Don', whereby the first 4 mins of the scene below has more than a passing resemblence to the PTS of Moonraker.
(This film is a remake of the 1978 classic starring Amitabh Bachchan, the biggest star of his day and even to this day in his 60's - a bit Sean Connery, Al Pacino, Marlon Brando 'in one' status - BBC online Poll 'Actor of the Millenium'. The remake has been re-written and directed by the son of the original 1978 Author/Screenplay. It stars the current SuperStar of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan or SRK, who is the all encompassing Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, etc)

Which leads me neatly (well I hope so) onto another release that was out last Friday called 'Dhoom 2'. The original Dhoom in 2004 was a bit of a homage to 'The Fast and the Furious'and did surprisingly well.
Dhoom 2's action scenes were advised / choreographed by none other than our very own Vic Armstrong . The film also features our old friend Aishwarya Rai , who as has been discussed before in the forums said she wouldn't kiss on screen ( ie if she was a Bond girl) and guess what, she broke her promise !
