Best Gun Barrel

This has probably been posted before, but I was just curious as to who you think has the best opening gun barrel sequence.

I like George Lazenby's the best. He actually drops to one knee. I watched DAF last night, and I didn't like Connery's. He looked as if he were about to fall over.

The Simmons one is my least fave... I do like the others, but the first Moore one is probably my fave. Quick on the draw!

I liked them the best when they were simple. It was a classic intro, it was probably the epitome of an iconic beggining (right up their with the story and title that roll at the beginning of the Star Wars films) Lately, however, I think they've been playing with it too much. It started with GE and the introduction of the CGI gunbarrel. Then it got worse with the bullet zooming toward the screen in DAD, and now with CR I think they've played with it a bit too much.

So to make a short story long :) I liked the originals best, climaxing with Dalton's renditions (probably my all time favorite) Not to say I didn't like Brosnan's walk, but the barrel was too over the top for me.

Favourite pre 1995: TSWLM up with RM, I liked the LTK one. Worst is probably bob simmons one, i dont understand why they made him do it, insurance?

Favourite Post 1995: Probably TWINE, but i liked the CR one in the trailer not in the actual movie.

What gave them the idea to do the Gunbarrel cos its kinda original and you dont imagine it in the books?
    1. TWINE 2. FYEO 3. MR 4. TLD 5. TSWLM 6. OHMSS 7. DN 8. OP 9. AVTAK 10. TMWTGG 11. QoS 12. GE 13. CR 14. TB 15. FRWL 16. TND 17. LTK 18. GF 19. SF 20. LaLD 21. YOLT 22. NTTD 23. DAD 24. DAF. 25. SP

As I remember someone on the DN set had the idea to actually point the camera lens into the barrel of a gun on set and it just evolved from there.

    IMO, there's no doubt:

The gunbarrel in CR will never, ever be topped. By far the coolest concept with the gunbarrel ever.

I agree, the CR gunbarrel cannot be topped. However, I think that it should be the CR gunbarrel and nothing more, and they should go back to a traditional, pre DAD gunbarrel.

For me its a tie between the CR gunbarrel and the TWINE gunbarrel. I think that Brosnan did a great job with that one. The way he walks, all stern like, and the snap in which he draws and shoots make it great.

Sorry to sound a bit curmudgeonly but I understood that the gunbarrels were not re-shot for each movie. Therefore the TWINE gunbarrel can only be the same as the GE, TND gunbarrels.

My understanding is that it was reshot for Thunderball because of the change in aspect ratio to 2.35 : 1, with each new actor obviously and again for the aspect ration change for TSWLM.

I agree with the idea that we should return to standard gunbarrels after CR.

It is indeed a great gunbarrel. However I wouldn't call it the best. I love the one/s with Connery in a fedora. (It may not have been a fedora but it was a hat of some kind.)

I think Connery had the worst one. If you watch closely, he sways and looks like he's about to fall.

In reality, George Lazenby's would probably be the best because he's making himself a smaller target. I really like Sean Connery's walk but he does appear unbalanced at the finish.

I like both of Roger Moore's, especially the second one, my favourite overall. It all looks perfectly natural and smooth to me. I also like Timothy Dalton's walk and the way he appears to draw the gun from behind his back. Pierce Brosnan has a very confident walk and turn, but his final position looks a bit too upright and stiff to me.

I like Daniel Craig's version, though I do miss the walk. The way he turns quickly round and fires is pretty good.

I, the guy who alwas has to put a Youtube Link to end a post and never get mentionet will give you this address that i've found a week ago:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-3cIoWgdMg

it has all the gunbarrels (except the proper one in CR) with its music. i like the Brosnan concept (turning around to... BECOME THE SAME ONE - or very close one) except of course the annoying bullet from DAD.

But i have to mention that i like the one made by Dalton, because it has some resemblance with Connery without falling.

Moore is the only one that made it with a suit and with the tuxedo.

Johmss, poor chap :007) That was a wonderful link and I had a delightful time watching them all, thank you. :)

The three that stuck out to me as the best were TB, TSWLM and TLD. I never noticed before how visible the actors shadows were (not so much Brosnan.) I liked OHMSS because it was the only one that when the blood oozed down Bond was not visible through it. I still think, however, they need to stop messing with it, and Bond 22 should start right off with the old school gunbarrel.

I've been looking for that link... I saw it the other day and couldn't find it again.

The Brosnan gunbarrels were off, I think, because of the music.. especially GoldenEye. So anti-climatic. A Bond film should start with a LOUD traditional guitar soloed gunbarrel to herald another BIG 007 adventure

For the music, i think Brosnan's were distinctive, being DAD the best (again, without the bullet).

Dalton's (with TLD score) is my fav...
I liked also the CR one, despite the bathroom...

I think that's a brilliant Gunbarrel. I often criticise George, but I think his gunbarrel was among the very best.

I love the one in CR, but if they're going to start doing it normally from now on, they should do it like my favorite: Dalton. He's fast, he moves perfectly, and that 'crack' of the gun is perfectly timed with the music. IMO, his looks better than that shiny CGI gunbarrel, even if they are made out of metal in real life. :p

I just hope this wasn't only a tribute, and they're scrapping the gunbarrel from now on...

My top 5 fav and a reason

    1. Casino Royale-It will NEVER be topped
    2. LTK-it just has a nice dark tone of music
    3. FYEO-the funk beat of the music
    4. OHMSS-Lazenby's fall on one knee is the best move of all the turns
    5. Goldeneye-Brosnan's confident walk

I dunno about al the raves on the CR gunbarrel...

The barrel itself if HORRENDOUS... too busy, too much to it. It looks like a camera shutter to me, although Craig homself brought urgency with his stance, so I like that... BUT his stance to me remindes of Brosnan, so I'm contracdicting myself a little I guess

Oh, and what's with the DAF gunbarrel? Kind of psychadelic

My favourite walk-on and shoot is Timothy Dalton's. It looks confident and effortless and the position in which he is standing after the shot looks good as well.

With regards to the music, I think the music starting off with the bond theme vamp (eg. TWINE, TSWLM) is better than when it starts off in the more traditional fashion with the loud horns screaming the opening notes. The vamp beginning has a more mysterious spy mood to it. Just a personal preference, and I really like the way Arnold did this in TND and TWINE.

That is a particular favourite of mine. I think the music is just about the perfect introduction to any gunbarrel.

dok after review the gunbarrel video on youtube ive made an analysis of each individual gunbarrel.

Dr. No-overall good but horrible music. (Bob Simmons had the second best turn.)

FRWL-another good one but they didn't need to have the barrel disappear.

Goldfinger-same as the last two (nice electric guitar music)

Thunderball-Sean Connery's turn is the WORST!

YOLT-The barrel moves over way to far but excellent music (this is probably my number 6 most fav)

OHMSS-Lazenby had the best move of all the turns but not fast enough for me.

DAF-bad music, Connery's turn again, and the barrel is over too far.(the guitar in this is horrible)

LALD-Moore's turn is eh but the music is good.(more electric guitar)

TMWTGG-the music clips off the notes too early.

(EDIT: Upon watching them again, I like Moore's first turn where he doesn't turn his legs toward the screen)

TSWLM-doesn't start off with the regular horn blasts that people were used to but a nice change of pase for the opening music

Moonraker-exactly like TMWTGG's gunbarrel but a little different music

FYEO-nice disco version of the theme song(with nice cowbell.)

Octopussy-again almost like TMWTGG's gunbarrel(the music slows down when Moore comes on)

AVTAK-AGAIN like TMWTGG's gunbarrel(the music picks up when Moore comes on this time)

TLD-kind of different music but Dalton's move makes up for it

LTK-ONE OF THE BEST! nice dark tone of music that suits the movie

Goldeneye-Brosnan's walk is confident but could of done without the music(his move is eh)

TLD-Same music as TSWLM but Brosnan seems out of place to me

TWINE-Same kind of music as TSWLM but more techno and crappy

DAD-Nice opening of horns but when it goes to techno it gets crappy(I thought the bullet was okay but eh)

CR-THE BEST EVER! The whole concept of put it in the pts and have it be his first kill is good. They should NOT do something like this again though, just go back to the original. If this is done again it will seem overused.

    i just notice something...

Craigs turn is awesome (i like it) but he does a 180 turn, with the walkout everybody does a 90 degree turn, so, would Craig with a walkout would be as cool as the last one? does he walk away the circle so he can turn 180? I Believe he would have to make a faster turn to have his jacket flopped.

Brosnan's seems TOO similar to me, except the bullet. with all others you could see that the illumination changes and the shadows but not here.

Oh, it seems obvious but i'll say it, Craig is the last since Moore to not use a Tux and the only who didn't use a tie either.

I enjoy them all---since they always herald the beginning of a new Bond film :007) ---but some also herald the beginning of a new Bond Era...

And for this reason, among other more specific ones, I choose Dalton's gunbarrel from TLD, as I was nearly faint with relief that it was a different bloke walking across the screen :v

Craig's was certainly cool, and the most kinetic...but I'm looking forward to what he does with a more conventional, pre-PTS gunbarrel...
