CONCERNS about Sunspel Polo Shirt

Hmmmm, I have noticed two auctions for Sunspel Casino Polo Shirts on Ebay...these are from the winners of the initial contest. Although it was exctiting to see these shirts outside of production my heart sank a little when I noticed no chest pocket...! I truly hope Sunspel will be adding the pocket to their production line of shirts or there will be quite a few irate fans (me included).

I hope they get it right for the 100 plus run. Perhaps someone should email Sunspel and ask the question. I've already Emailed them about when the shirts would be ready and was told late January or early February.

I have emailed them about the pocket, complete with pics of the "pocketless" ones the 'winners' received.

I was actually one of the winners and will NOT be selling mine on ebay or anywhere else. I won shirt #008 (soooo close). Despite the lack of a pocket it really is nice. It's an athletic cut, tapered to the waist and cut high on the biceps. It's hard to find non-boxy polos in the US. I'm a serious rock climber, so I think it looks pretty good on me. And yes, I wear it a LOT! The material is interesting too; a sort of breathable mesh. Again, very nice. Pricey if you have to buy one though.

I sent them an email as well. Thanks for getting me involved, Mantis, I would've hated to be disappointed, and I hope that they will listen to us.

I can tell you there will be many a cancelled order if this is the case...I bid on one of the winning shorts on ebay but I am retracting my bid because to me this is NOT a Casino Royale replica shirt....

I'm glad to hear that. The more people contact them, the better for you and me.

I had two on order (one someone else bought for me) and my uncle has also ordered. We have both emailed Sunspel.

I agree with Mantis that ist really not a replica shirt if they omit the pocket.

Im also kind of sad that people would win such an excellent prize and just to turn round and flog it on ebay.....oh well!

Although now that we know the winner's shirt isn't even film correct, what is the point in keeping it?
  • The Bond ExperienceThe Bond Experience Newtown, PAPosts: 5,490Quartermasters
ALL seems to be well....please read:

    Dear David,

Yes, you will receive the shirt with lapel, as per the film.

For your information, the prize draw polo’s were original samples for size and context made for the film, without pockets. The final products we are now selling are a subsequent production run, based on the final design hence the wait for them to be produced in Long Eaton.

I hope this clears up any confusion.

    Thanks

    Dominic

Because I got a nice $120 shirt for free.:) And unfortunately, no matter how blue my eyes or how blond my hair, a pocket on my polo isn't going to make me any more like Bond.

The pocket will make me more like Bond....I just know it! :)

I recieved a similar email when I inquired:

    Dear Ken
At this time we cannot say if your order will be despatched before march. We
have had such a huge respose to this shirt we are have to knit extra fabric
I am sorry we are not able to be more precise about when these shirts will
be despatched but they will all be sent as soon as possible as the fabric is
    knitted and becomes available
    Kind regards

    Hi,

Slightly off topic, but I didn't want to start a new thread about the Polo shirts.

I'm about to buy a couple, but didn't want to mess up sizing. I'm inbetween the small and medium sizes, 38.5".

I was just wondering for any of the lucky people who already have one, what sort of fit I should expect? Is it very slim fitting?

    Thanks for any pointers.

I would go with the medium. They are slim fitting, and are cut rather high on the arm. if you got one slightly too small it would look like you stole a shirt from your little brother =)

:)) Last thing I want is to look like I've nicked my brother's clothes!

Thanks for the advice, I've ordered the medium, just have to sit and wait now.

    Thanks again

My Sunspel arrived today- with pocket, and absolutely awesome. Not cut as small as I expected, and my small fits me nicely. The material is not what I was expecting- very mesh-like. It'll be great in the summer. {[]

I'll try but I have nowhere to host them.

Yeah, I got mine yesterday. It was supposed to be two blue, but only got one. Still trying to find out what happened to the other. Yes, very mesh like, which I did not expect. One for play, the other for display.

I've only got one for play. :D Will do me good on the golf course. And hunting down baddies, and sleeping with Caterina Murino, of course.

I received mine on Thursday, I got a large and it fits great although still a little tight on the arms. Also just as a side issue my wife got her annual work bonus and while we were in Selfridges she bought me a lovely black Planet Ocean to replace my old Seamaster that I bought when Goldeneye came out

I love my sunspel Polo. However, if you are doing Casino Royale on a budget (There's a hint to David to pull his finger out ;) )and you live in the UK, Next do a passable blue polo shirt with a pocket on the chest and with epaulettes (so not screen accurate, but very smart) for about £25. I have both the sunspel and the next and the fit is very similar. The Next fabric feels more tighter re. the weave than the sunspel. But the sunspel will be sooooo cool in summer.

Can someone comment further on the Sunspel? Specifically, do you like it? Well-made, etc? The price IMO is not unreasonable if it's a quality shirt. Can someone please post pics? Has anyone in the US taken delivery of one of these? Did you get hit with any import tax? Thanks in advance!
  • NightshooterNightshooter In bed with SolitairePosts: 2,917MI6 Agent
I got mine in the US with no problems. I haven't worn it yet, waiting for summer, but it seems very well made.
  • Red IndianRed Indian BostonPosts: 427MI6 Agent
Thanks, Night. One more question: do you normally wear a size small, or did you go one size lower for more of a fitted look? I normally wear a Medium; should I stick with that? Thanks again.
  • NightshooterNightshooter In bed with SolitairePosts: 2,917MI6 Agent
I always wear a size small, so I ordered a small, and it does have the fitted look. More fitted than a Ralph Lauren polo, or a Burberry polo, anyway. So I'd say stick with what you are.

Will do, thanks again! The Persols and shirt will come in handy in the coming months! Enjoy!

I have worn mine several times now and I love the feel of it. It will be joining me in the South of France later this year.

However, is it worth the price tag?

    No.
