Having helped to make Casino Royale the most successful James Bond film ever - grossing more than £300 million worldwide - Daniel Craig has just received a bonus of £2 million from its makers, Eon.

His three-picture deal with the company was not said to be especially generous. "It reflected the fact that he was an unknown quantity in the part," a pal of the 39-year-old tells me. "This is just to make sure he doesn't now start to feel hard done by."

MNL Personally, I'm treating this with a pinch of salt. It doesn't particularly interest me regards how much money is involved in DC's three picture deal. Having said that, if he has just received a £2 million bonus then I say good luck to him.

    Richly deserved.

I remember when the tabs were making a lot of noise about Craig being a cut-rate Bond. He said he was happy with his compensation, which I thought was pretty classy.

I am sure DC will "feel hard done by" when he sees the tax on his bonus.

I think the resounding success of CR proves that he is worth every penny. Also, bearing in mind the problems he encountered along the way and the fact he still turned in such a tremendous performance shows what a good choice he was.

Good for him...although I'll probably have to stop calling him 'poor' Danny :p

As far as I'm concerned, he's earned every penny---and that's just for withstanding the ancillary b******t surrounding his announcement...and during production :s

I just hope they can keep him interested in the character for another two (or more!) films...

An extra two million should mollify any future outbursts from Craig towards eager fans taking snapshots of his bum. I suspect we will soon see an elated Bond dropping his trousers in public malls and posing with zeal and aplomb!

Is that what you kids are calling 'em now? What ever happened to Big Jim and the Kids?

Anyway, I don't know if this extra cash is to keep Craig from popping off to fans. Maybe it's to prevent behavior a la Brosnan--you know, eagerly promoting the film and then, a few months later, complaining about how it didn't turn out as he wanted, that the producers wouldn't listen to him, that he should have more of a stake in Bond's future, etc., etc.

Maybe it is a bonus for sleeping with Barbara Broccoli? :))

BB's quite attractive. If that's what the 2 mill's for, then Craig's a lucky guy.

Good for him. I'll never hate on a man getting paid. Lets wait to see what his bonus will be after the next film flops.

You sound like a hater, lol.

Good for Craig, hope he doubles that bonus on Bond 22. :o :D

Do you not mean if it flops? Unless you can see into the future. In which case, can you tell me the results of next year's major sporting events so I can put a bet on them. I'm a bit short of cash at the moment. :D Oh and does Katie Holmes ever escape from that weird guy who's holding her prisoner?

A while ago someone put up an internet site for that exact same reason. The goal was to free her from being held captive by the freak. :))

Although, I can't see the future. I believe the next film will not be as successful as CR. I still believe that 1/3 of the ticket sales for CR were from people who was curious about a new guy playing James Bond. Now that they've seen this "so-called" Bond..thi movie will flop.

Well, Jermaine76, you're entitled to your beliefs, but the facts speak for themselves: users on BoxOfficeMojo and RottenTomatoes rated the film an A, and that "so-called Bond" himself has become a superstar, winning plum movie roles, getting a lot of media attention, and even being voted one of the sexiest men around. People are champing at the bit to see Bond 22, and a big reason why is because they like Craig.

Yeah, a bunch of brainwashed fools is what I call them. I refuse to get sucked in like everyone else into believing this guy is James Bond. I won't go into that because this isn't the right forum, off-topic and I've done it for awhile now and its getting old to me. As I was saying...the next film will be flop and I'm willing to put money on it.

    I'll take that bet anyday.

You, sir, are in denial. Just because you don't like it, it doesn't mean everyone agrees with you.

So how much would you like to wager?

I'm pretty confident that Bond 22 will be successful, although I personally will be interested to see how successful. Both Dalton and Brosnan's premiere films preformed well financially and critically, but their follow-up films less so. Will Craig buck the trend? If EON can create a script that continues to play to DC's strengths, but is also able to match the expectations of the audience, then it shouldn't be a problem. The wild cards are the script, the director, and the ever-puzzling and impalpable "audience reaction".

Brosnan's follow up did well, surely, even if it pulled in extras thanks to Titanic, such a big hit that many returned to the cinema and there was a knock-on effect.

Bond 22 may not flop, even if it sucks. Life don't work like that. Anyhow, all the anti-Brosnans have come out of the woodwork now. Craig has more than enough fans to be going on with, though if both Campbell and Craig are back (and no reason why Campbell shouldn't, he deserves it), I won't be too keen.

I anticipate Bond 22 will open big, probably outgrossing Casino Royale. What follows next will depend on the quality of the film and word of mouth.

Wow, how times have changed, lol. I'm kinda confused right now, should I blast him and belittle him and tell him all the reasons he's so very very wrong, or just nod and smile? ;)

Ah what the hell, I can understand how Craig might not be everyone's cup of Bond. Viva la difference! {[] Gotta side with HB about future Craig-as-Bond successes though, seems a given IMO. But who knows, maybe the world-wide effects of the koolaid wear off by then? Guess we'll see.

Like alot of others I am not betting on Bond 22 being as good as "Casino Royale".

The "new" gritter Bond was a welcome change (or return) from the "joke shop spy" who never even mussed his hair. DC certainly got kicked around in "Casino" much like the literary oo7 did.

I hope the bonus shows that they trust DC's interpetation of Bond and will give him a greater say in the charecter development for the next film.

I have always understood that the producers were hoping to evolve oo7 into the "cool" superspy from his dark and brutal roots .... yeah that's probably too much to hope for. As historians say - to predict the future look to the past!

People would do well to remember the same hype and hoopla existed about Dalton's first movie - and despite the lawsuit story and lots of revisionism, his second movie just about buried the series for good. (I remember those days, you could actually smell the series dying, lol).

This is true. As much as I'm a fan of Dalton and actually enjoyed LTK, the film didn't deliver what others wanted. The film series was dying, but I'm not about to lay the blame at Dalton's feet. The films simply weren't keeping pace with the pulse of the market, and were becoming an easy target for critics to who felt that Bond belonged in a reliquary.

It did seem that Bond was on the verge of extinction, but I knew that if Eon dropped Bond, then someone with a pioneering spirit would pick him up and make everything old new again. Brosnan's films really did attempt to make yesterday's Bond films into today's cup of tea IMO. Craig's Bond, on the other hand, brought exactly what the mass market wanted. It will last for a while, but inevitably, audience tastes will change once again, and Bond will have to be reinvented for the screen.

If this is true, it was very generous and richly deserved. I think it also shows that they treat their stars well. They sound like good people to work for which was not the impression I got after reading about the way they let Pierce go.
