Topic: Did anyone get who they wished for in CR?

There was a lot of speculation about the casting of CR back in the day. But did anyone get the actor /actress they suggested before casting was announced? Mine were Dominic West playing 007, Jennifer Connelly filling (tee-hee) the part of Vesper and Mos Def or Sam Rockwell playing Leiter. In other words, my suggestions weren't followed ...

Re: Did anyone get who they wished for in CR?

My suggestions weren't followed either. I didn't have a preference for Felix, but my preferences for 007 and Eva were Clive Owen and *Monica Bellucci.

*Actually, my first suggestion for Vesper was our very own Alessandra, but that was until I was informed that she was unavailable.

Re: Did anyone get who they wished for in CR?

For Le Chiffre, I'd been hoping for more of a twisted 'father figure' type, as he appears in the novel...and David Suchet was my own preference.  For Vesper, I was hoping they would go for a 'Hitchcock Blonde' effect with Vesper...perhaps Naomi Watts.  For Felix Leiter, I again went to the source material---Leiter was a tall, lanky Texan in the books---my choice was Barry Pepper.

Would've been a far different picture, and it's hard to quarrel with the success they had along their chosen route   ajb007/cheers

At any rate, I'm one of only six people on Earth (apparently!) who find Eva Green quite appealing...   ajb007/heart

Re: Did anyone get who they wished for in CR?

I wanted Gerard Butler as Bond but out of the actors who were revealed to be on Eon's radar I liked Alex O'Lachlan. Post Casino Royale I've seen Sam Worthington in a few films and can see why he was strongly considered. I would have no major problem with him being the next James Bond. I didn't mind Eva but I thought Mads was bland. Also I'm bored to tears with Judi Dench and had hoped she would give way to a Tom Wilkinson type as M.

Re: Did anyone get who they wished for in CR?

I didn't like a single candidate up until I watched Layer Cake after DC had been announced. Well, you know the rest.

As for everyone else, I liked Rose Byrne originally, but I think Eva was a much better choice.

So, basically, EON can cast better than I can. IMO, anyway.

Re: Did anyone get who they wished for in CR?

I wanted DC for Bond (surprise! ajb007/wink ).  The rest I went round and round on, thought Green would make a great vesper but never thought EON would cast her, then she did and I was estactic.  I was less concerned about Le Chiffre as I figured they'd make him somewhat-to-quite a bit different in the film, so really had no strong pull for anybody, just lots of what ifs. Really like Mads.

Re: Did anyone get who they wished for in CR?

I just saw FHM's 100 sexiest women feature, and Eva Green did quite well. So don't worry, Loeffelholz, you are not alone!

Re: Did anyone get who they wished for in CR?

When I first heard it was ganna be the "first Bond movie" I instantly thought of Bernard Lee for M just for one more time along with Cec Linder as Felix and Lois Maxwell as moneypenny. When I saw that M was still Judith i was ****ed not only moneypenny was gone and was a guy and that Felix Leiter. It was to good to be true but u cant make a a new Bond and change every single characters sex and race. Even from Goldeneye to now. Its just not right. So no i did not get my wishes

Re: Did anyone get who they wished for in CR?

Bernard Lee is dead, my friend. It would be hard for him to play M again.

Re: Did anyone get who they wished for in CR?

Cec Linder is also deceased. Lois Maxwell is thankfully still with us, although at 80 years old and having had some health problems she's not up for any more films.

Re: Did anyone get who they wished for in CR?

For Bond, Hugh Jackman was my favorite, followed in no particular order by Clive Owen, Gerard Butler, and even Ioan Gruffudd.  I was horrified by the casting of Craig, but I've since changed my tune.  For Le Chiffre I thought either David Suchet or Alfred Molina would have been perfect; and I really didn't give much thought to Leiter, Mathis, or Vesper. . .but I did like the looks of Rose Byrne, and after seeing her in Marie Antoinette, I still think she could be a good Bond girl.  But I think the cast chosen by EON is fine--easily the best ensemble work in a Bond film in years.

Monica Bellucci was too old for Vesper. When thinking of an actress, think of someone Eva's age. Unless you want to completely change the nature of the character of Vesper, which doesn't seem to be a stretch since you seem to have wanted to fundamentally change the tone of the story of CR in the run up to the film's production and release.

As for the question at hand... aside from very minute issues, yes: I got exactly what I wanted, in terms of who I wanted as Bond and the end film product.

Perhaps you're right that she's too old. Another actress whom I wouldn't have minded was Rose Byrne.

Well, that would have been nice, but that was not my consideration when constructing a wish list.

Re: Did anyone get who they wished for in CR?

Just after DAD, there was a lot of speculation that Clive Owen would be the next Bond and I thought he would have been perfect.  However, as more time went on and it became clear that they were going to do a reboot, it became clear that Owen would have been to old for this Bond.  After that I just wanted Eon to make the right choices.

I would have been happy with either of Spooks leading men, Matthew McFadyen or Rupert Penry-Jones.  Another favourite of mine would have been Paul Blackthorne who made a great villain in Season 3 of 24.  I was surprised Craig got it, but I've admired his work since Our Friends in the North a decade ago and thought it his casting was an inspired, leftfield choice.

My big worry was the rumour that Thandie Newton would get cast as Vesper.  Bloody awful actress.  Thankfully, Eva Green, got the part.  I'd seen a lot of her in The Dreamers and liked what I saw.  ajb007/biggrin  Mads Mikkelson I'd seen in Open Hearts and the Scottish/Danish co-production Wilbur Wants to Kill Himself.  He has a world-weary screen presence that I thought makes him an interesting actor.  I don't think CR got the best out of him, but that's not his fault.  Jeffrey Wright is one of the best actors around and I hope they bring him back as Felix and give him something to do this time.

*enter flattery and embarassment for the compliment* ajb007/embarrassed Dan, I think I owe you a drink at the very least! ajb007/biggrin

I certainly wasn't available to kiss Daniel Craig whom I did not want as Bond and whom I haven't changed my mind on.:v (Sorry to me he is just not right. Just my preference clearly). Had they cast Hugh Jackman (whom I still strongly want as Bond ajb007/heart), I would totally have made myself available for the part of Vesper. ajb007/lol

With the casting of Craig, I'm not surprised that you became unavailable. ajb007/wink It would have been great to see a Bond film with you and Jackman; perhaps you will be available for Bond 24, should Jackman's schedule open up?

Re: Did anyone get who they wished for in CR?

I was happy with the casting.  I thought Eva and Mads both did a great job with their roles.  I do hope that they will keep Jeffrey Wright as Felix.  He's a good actor, plus they tend to recast Felix every single time you turn around.  While I've enjoyed Dame Judi as M, I was hoping that they would recast that role.  I did miss out on seeing Q and Moneypenny in this movie.  I thought there were times they could have been fit in, as a way to reintroduce them.  I was happy with Daniel Craig as Bond.  I saw "Layer Cake" about the time all the casting news was starting up.  He was amazing in that picture, so I had no problems with him as Bond.  I was glad that they didn't get a big name actor like Hugh Jackman, etc.  I thought the movie had great casting.  I'm hoping they keep that up with Bond 22.
