Re: QoS Title Song

Agree 100% about k.d. lang and "Surrender".  To me, that was the finest Bond film vocal tune in a long time.

it was so goddamn awful I couldn't remember who it was really, or maybe I just turn the sound off when the credits come on or fast forward or leave the room etc

Well...you could have read about the title artist...or remembered his name to avoid more of his work...but I think you are over-dramatising for effect ajb007/wink

DFGTYODLTTMFOATLGTTDCQ wrote:

when was the last time there was a decent Bond tune, apart from Casino Royale?

Garbage's The World Is Not Enough is a good enough answer and if not that then Sheryl Crow takes the honors

Really ? You serious ? Both are ok but VERY bland...I expected so much more from Garbage....and Sheryl Crow's song is beaten hands down by kd lang and Surrender...

I really fear they will again come up with some manufactured plastic faced crap for Number 23, simply because the producers want Bond to be 'modern' or 'give the audience of today what they feel is most appropriate and sod everyone else who doesn't like it'

Like they did for CR you mean ? ajb007/wink And Jack White can hardly be described as "manufactured plastic crap"...

Point being, Wings' Live and Let Die and Nancy Sinatra's You Only Live Twice were good tunes but they would have no place in todays climate and back then there was no well, garbage efforts like today, things have to set in with the time of the moment, even so, QOS as a whole was so disappointing to most people that some may never even turn up for the next release so what music they come up with may very well in the end be immaterial

Again, not sure I agree with you...garbage efforts like CR you mean ? ajb007/wink

And you really think the title song puts people off seeing a Bond film ajb007/confused Really ajb007/confused That just beggars belief ajb007/rolleyes

The song WAS completely brilliant ajb007/biggrin   ajb007/biggrin   ajb007/biggrin   ajb007/biggrin
Just kidding it was just AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL
Not sure what song was worse DAD or QOS. But DAD was Madonna, so I expected it to be bad. Alecia Keys has talent, that makes QOS that much worse.

Here's hoping both 23's movie & song are closer to CR than to QOS. I am sure that will make most in the Bond community far happier campers  ajb007/cool   ajb007/cool   ajb007/cool

If you took a Boy cat and smashed the hell out of his Boy bits with two House bricks, You couldn't  come up with a worse sound than the QOS theme. ajb007/lol, sorry to those you like it. But it is awful ajb007/biggrin

Re: QoS Title Song

Well I do think the production helps kill the song. Lyrically it's not too bad and there is a tune of sorts, but the sound of it is awful imo.

Re: QoS Title Song

Couple of points....

Firstly, soundgarden were seminal in creating grunge..they came before pearl
Jam and Nirvanna, and as such, have a place in musical history... ajb007/cheers

Secondly, cornell did a great job with YKMN and it perfectly fits the last line of the film.... Superb subliminalism... ajb007/smile

Thirdly, no real interest in defending/psychoanalysing/decompartmentalising/slagging keys/White; all I think of when I hear that song is the last minute hash up it probably became once whine-house let eon down... I wish they'd leak the truth but maybe that makes them more respectable after all.... Maybe we'll never know....

And always Remember the Sony influence .... Keys is a Sony artist....
Interestingly back in 2006,  cornell wasn't directly a Sony name,  but audioslave were.... So Sony benefit through the  secondary promotion of audioslave ... Indeed, even now, cornell is with universal, who are independent of Sony, but in a joint venture ....

Guess who adele is with?... Yep Columbia...owned by Sony  ajb007/embarrassed

Finally, sir miles....u know I was a founder member of the goldfrapp for bond faction... But as I mentioned before many threads ago..... Goldfrapp are with mute, owned until recently by emi... Now independent....

But still a competitor of Sony.....

Now if goldfrapp switch to Sony before they look like Betty davis  and Mick jagger, I'm willing to bet they do a bond song almost immediately... ajb007/bond

Soundgarden just aren't my 'thing' at all...it's all instantly forgettable for me...although I do agree with you on Cornell...a great job with YKMN ajb007/martini

It would be interesting to hear if Eon ever did approach Winehouse about the theme tune...or was it more to do with the fact that her producer (Mark Ronson) is a Bond fan and he wanted to do one..?...wasn't it Ronson who pulled the plug on their recording sessions, saying that Amy just wasn't doing herself justice..?...

Then Adele looks an even stronger bet... ajb007/martini

I do indeed...they have been a favourite of mine since Felt Mountain...and the quite brilliant track Utopia...

Alas, on their last album - Head First - they seem to have lost their way, IMO...they'd need another album along the lines of Black Cherry to come into the reckoning again...

And, for the record, they are sensational live ajb007/martini

I don't normally go in for rumour - dangerous in my game - but I am totally convinced about ms winehouse and bond.... And suspect the truth will seep out with a respectable period of mourning her sad, untimely death. RIP.

Wasn't trying to convert u to soundgarden Paul, just respectful of your deep musical knowledge and taste..... And pointing to their place in history....

And on goldfrapp....same.... Until they sign up with Sony family I'm afraid our wish remains a dream...

And pls don't mention head first.... Kylie does jefferson starship.... ajb007/insane

Time will indeed tell, Paul...I just feel it was more from Mark Ronson than anybody else...I think Eon would have been silly to turn down the track though...but Ronson did pull the plug on the track...

Each to their own, Paul...Soundgarden just aren't for me...but then I love AWTD so.... ajb007/lol

I don't see Goldfrapp changing record labels...so I guess Sony will just have to buy the label ajb007/biggrin

And that's about the kindest review of Head First I've read ajb007/lol
