Re: Favorite Quotes

The viking Torgeir Håvardson met a shephered while he was out riding. As he passed the shephered, Torgeir cassually chopped off the man's head. - Why did you kill that man? asked the men who rode with Torgeir. - He was well placed for cutting.

That's one of the best/worst reasons for killing a man I have ever heard about.

“The fish trap exists because of the fish. Once you've gotten the fish you can forget the trap. The rabbit snare exists because of the rabbit. Once you've gotten the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words exist because of meaning. Once you've gotten the meaning, you can forget the words. Where can I find a man who has forgotten words so I can have a word with him?”

Re: Favorite Quotes

" ... in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."

Orson Wells in The Third Man

I think this quote is depressing, but there is much truth in it. It sure is true when it comes to technology. When WWII started there were biplanes, radios and horse cavalry. At the end of it there were jet planes, computers and radio controled drone vehicles.
