So I was wondering about the brands confirmed to be in Skyfall.

Aston Martin
Barbour
Billy Reid
Coca Cola
Heineken
Jaguar
Land Rover
Levi's
Literary Review
Omega
Orlebar Brown
Sony
Swarovski
Tom Ford
Walther
Virgin Atlantic
Volkswagen
Zara

The folks at JamesBondLifestyle.com have more detailed info on the products and brands.

Anyone know what brands are supposed to be actually featured on screen in partnerships? I'm sure I have missed some of the confirmed brands.

EDIT: I figure I'll just mention the ones that aren't paid partnerships here as well.

St Dupont maybe, however with Ford onboard maybe he has wiped them from supplying the cufflinks! I hope this is not the case as I believe TF cufflinks are a few thousand!!! :#

Sony Vaio and Sony Ericsson mobile phone most probably.
Might be time for a new Sony Vaio tablet and Sony Ericcson smartphone.

Hmmm. I'm not sure that the use of a classic Aston Martin signifies product placement by them. There's no model from their current line up confirmed, or seen on set for that matter, for filming.

However, Jaguar Land Rover appears to be heavily plugged. XJL, complete with police convoy lights, Range Rover and Range Rover Evoque are all present on set.

Sony is definitely one after seeing that their ads are plastered on a bus in one of the set photos.

Sure to be a new model sony vaio, it will be very expensive in the James Bond edition, and a touch phone, it will also be very expensive in the edition of James Bond :v :#

There is a photo somewhere showing M with the new VAIO F Series. So VAIO for sure, as for Sony Ericsson - this brand does not exist anymore, because Sony bought 100% of Ericsson recently. And there are 2 new smartphones to be released under the new label, I bet Bond will be using Sony XPERIA S :D

If Bond is known to use a specific weapon (i.e. Walther PPK), is that considered product placement or a necessary prop? It's hard for me to determine, and I'm going out on a limb to guess it probably has to do with whether the gun manuacturer actually pays to have the gun used in the film.
  • DTSNEO6DTSNEO6 U. S. A.Posts: 115MI6 Agent
    I would guess the Walther would still need to be considered a sponsor. With the use of the weapon even if they have used it for years...in the world of corporations...everyone has to be paid. TINSTAAFL (There Is No Such Thing As a Free Lunch) -{

On a different note, i'm waiting to see which phone he will be using, i'm in need a of a new one and i'd like to upgrade to one Bond uses....provided i like it of course. :))

I've asked several jewelers in the area, while my wife was eye humping all the diamonds, if they had any Omega watches. The usual answer is "no." I then turn away, but the people at the counter try to reel me back in by saying they have a different brand. I of course pay no attention and don't even bother to humor their attempts. I think it irritates them, but I really don't care. Omega is synonymous with Bond, and I don't accept substitutes.

Real watches are often sold in stores where only watches are sold. I would be suspicious from the start if there is other things in the store. Except Cartier.

Mmmm. Cartier. I really want a lighter from them. (I don't smoke, but I figure if Tom Ford has a Cartier lighter, it is a gentlemanly object to carry) :))

Tout, if you knew a little bit about watches, you'd know, that "real watches" are also sold in jewellery shops.

As for Omega in particular, their policy is to move their watches out of multibrand stores (such as traditional jewellers that also have watches and watch-only dealers) and focus more and more on their own boutiques.

If that's good for the end customer, that is highly questionable. Many clients want to see different watch brands and models at one place to have a fair comparison and advise.
Another aspect is, that Omega boutiques tend to give close to ZERO % discount.

As for Cartier: I refuse to comment on the brand in regards to good watches .... 8-)

A bit of detail regarding Heineken's involvement.

The Bond campaign will coincide with the fall release of "Skyfall," the latest instalment in the long-running movie franchise. Bond, played by Daniel Craig, will star in a Heineken ad. The spot, which will run globally, is by brand agency-of-record Wieden & Kennedy, Amsterdam, and directed by Sam Mendes, the film's director. In the movie, Bond will swap his trademark martini for a sip of the brew -- at least in one scene. The integration, which will include Bond images on packaging, marks the largest activation in the brand's 15-year partnership with the 007 franchise, according to the brewer.

On BBC Radio 4 tonight they said Bond will ask for a Heineken in skyfall. Although I wonder
if he'll do it the Austin Powers way, "Hey get your hands of my Hinney, Baby " :))
I'm sure Ian Fleming would be so proud. :))

That's a shame as I think that's crass....referencing products that Bond may use (ie Omega, or branded vodka) is fine...but when I see/hear Heineken I don't think 'Bond' at all....I'd rather he just ask for a beer....

I think most places carry a variety of beer. In all of my experiences around people ordering, they say the brand name. I think naming a vodka or your luxury watch is way worse than ordering the brand of beer you want since beer is not a component of a mixed drink that may be subject to bartender judgment like vodka would be and obviously a watch brand would hardly come up except for in a judgmental quip like Vesper's in CR.

Sure, Heineken doesn't sound very Bond, but it would sound odd to me to just say 'beer' when a place that serves beer usually serves it under an array of brands that make signature brews. Is it different in other places? Do you usually just say 'beer' and the server picks the brand? In my experience, Vodka is something you don't usually have to name a brand on because you usually only care to name the mixed drink you want served, and not necessarily the brands you want (Bond's own Vesper martini doesn't include mention of the vodka brand he wants, despite naming Gordon's and Kina Lillet as the other two components he wants, making it again less natural for me to hear him name a vodka on screen).

I must admit, as much as I wince at the thought of another glut of Vodka, Range Rover, Sony and X Box game adverts only to see most of those bloody things in the film, a'la QoS - I am in the habit of naming beer when I want one. Heineken being my favourite beer through college.

Sometimes Prod Placement can be funny - Bond and Vesper's "Rolex?' 'Omega." repartee is a good example. I know the earlier films had product placement HERE too. Examples that pop in my head right now are Goldfinger - Slazenger and Penfold Hearts golf balls, OHMSS - Playboy centrefold, Moonraker - billboards in the middle of no-where, TND - Sony Errikson, BMW and Hertz.
However, although I drink Heineken, if Bond decides to order it makes no impact on me. In fact, overexposure put me off many of the brands that outstay their welcome. Sony tech is very much at the top of that list. Its followed by all the company's that have made replicas of Tom Ford material. Its made me actively not interested!

In the end if it blends in and helps to make the film feel naturally real and contemporary, fair enough. But it is a fine line, as DAD and QoS have demonstrated...

Re Aston Martin, I am sorry there is no mention of a modern model so far. The DB5 is a collective Bond classic (except for Sir Roger with the Lotus Esp) but I tend to think of the DBS as Mr Craig's Bond car.

Is Heineken the offical Beer of the Olympics ? :v

Or as with Casino Royale Bond calls a waiter over........

"Bring me a can of Beer, Pull the cap back to open,Pour in to a Half Pint Glass, serve cold with
a beer matt underneath. I'll call it a Heineken "

Yeah, I am aware it is currently the vintage model only, with no sure signs of a modern model. I originally had a 'maybe' after the Aston Martin listing, but I figure we are all gonna pay damn good attention to Aston Martin whether it is a true modern product placement or not...

So for now, I thought it might as well be listed as one of the brands featured in the film.

I thought just having Bond holding a bottle ( or have it on the table ) of Heineken would of been enough. :#

I wonder how long it will take ( If it hasn't already happened ) that a product gets a mention in the
title of a Film. As many Racehorses now are called after the company that sponsors them.
Cadburys could get the likes of,
The Bourneville series etc, I'm sure ther are many others.

Perhaps Bond could be the gracious guest as he is to Henderson in You Only Live Twice. There could be a scene where he is offered a Heineken by the host and decides to accept being the gracious guest. I think this would be more acceptable.

Does reverse product placement ever work?

ie someone pays for a rival product to be featured unflatteringly.

A lot of pp is unimaginative simply because it is so obvious. An Aston is featured, so all other cars must be from Ford range. Really, was anyone put off Aston Martin DB5 in GF because the movie also featured a Rolls Royce, or lots of black Mercs? Why not feature two lots of cool cars, they're not always mutually exclusive.

What kind of beer would Bond use? Grolsch is too German sounding, Fleming is trad anti-German. (I like Grolsch though). Certainly not Fosters. Stella has wife-beating reputation, though new ads are stylish. Kronenburg is nice and French, a bit ooh la la. He'd really go for a bitter though, wouldn't he?

The product placement deal with Heineken is being widely reported in media outlets around the world. It is not just creating a stir in the Bond forums. According to some articles I have read Skyfall is going to set a record. Apparently, £28 million ($45 million) is coming from product placement. This is approx one third of the films budget. This will surpass the previous record held by Minority Report of £13 million ($20 million).

Yeah, that is why I started this thread largely. I figured there has to be a big array of brands to make that big of a record.

Honestly, I just don't imagine Bond drinking beer. The brand itself isn't an issue to me since beer is known under brand names anyways. This idea is decent, since it requires no mention in the script:

And product placement works on me to a degree. I can't get Lisbeth's Sony NEX-3 camera out of my mind ever since seeing The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It makes me like the products that are offered by those brands. It doesn't have to damage the film, but I do think it does do some damage when you start getting things exclusively provided by a brand or company. It is odd to see a parking lot of Ford brands, a room of Sony electronics, and a closet full of Tom Ford. It is just a bit sticky to compromise certain believability in setting for the sake of these deals.
