Re: Db5 Aston Martin replica project 2013

Got My db5 1:18 scale model today looks great.
Made by auotart.got to have something to take
Measurement from  ajb007/biggrin.took length measurments
And it's scale .(checked at carfoolio.com).
And the grille would be like 103-104 cm wide.
Voiture. Could you confirm this ( or any one else)?
Since you are half db5 owner. ajb007/smile

Martin.

32

Re: Db5 Aston Martin replica project 2013

the scale is all over the place on models so be careful, they are not truly accurate.

Grills come up for sale reasonably often and with surround a decent one might come in circa £500 - any replica should really use Aston parts as it would be hugely cost and time prohibitive to remanufacture existing stuff. Lights etc are standard Lucas anyway, door handels are Mk 1 Escort - the body is bit to get right to take the real stuff. Only way to do that succesfully is to take a mould from an original.

Re: Db5 Aston Martin replica project 2013

Thanks for the doorhandle tip, I didn't know.
Yes, I know that the models are not accurate  to 100%
But with some reference parts to take mesaurments from
Like a front windscreen (300£ from supplier I know from
Work).or front or rear lights.
Should hear from the boat company this coming week
About price for scan and cnc the model.

Martin.
Ps. What about " martin's aston" as a name ajb007/lol

Love the name!

windscreens available over here £275 - rear lights standard Lucas items repro or original about £60 a side
front and rear bumpers £1200.

I have designed a totally reliable number plate system and have the plans for the machine guns, although its easier to make better ones.

Bags the second body............................

Several bond cars?.... Which ones?

And what collectable items?

Are you planning on building a db5 yourself?

Re: Db5 Aston Martin replica project 2013

There is a db5 in the lasvegascarstars website.
So Tiger ( if you dont' mind the bond connection ajb007/smile ) why
Do you need a replica? You got the real one.
Take a look at this pictures i found in a swedish building site.

Re: Db5 Aston Martin replica project 2013

Gentlemen, As this my first post I would like to introduce myself. Canadian, male, 48, Bond fan since I can remember...Dad was a big fan and took the family to go see "The Man with the Golden Gun" at the Mustang Drive-In Theatre in London, Ontario summer of 74....and had the Corgi DB5 (didn't lose the the little blue guy who sat in the injector seat)

I have been thinking about building a DB5 for myself for about two years. I have alway been a car guy...built  a 1957 Porsche  Speedster in the parents garage in my youth. Currently working on a 1977 Porsche 911 wide body...with a Chevy V8 383. Drive a x-type  Jag daily.

I am EXTREMELY interested in this fiberglass DB5 replica and will be continuing to add to this thread...first off, has anyone seen this project first-hand ?

48

Re: Db5 Aston Martin replica project 2013

Any recommendations of how to contact Mr. Hugh Rogers of Cornwall, U.K. ?

49

Re: Db5 Aston Martin replica project 2013

Curious: Generally speaking there's nothing to stop someone from making their own one-off DB5 replica but wouldn't there be copyright issues in "mass-producing" a commercial copy of the body?

For example, I don't see how EMC gets away with a Vanquish.

Re: Db5 Aston Martin replica project 2013

I am not completely familiar with copyright laws in various countries....but in North America there have been dozens of Porsche Speedster kits and turnkeys  to buy for decades. I built one myself from a small manufacture in Barrie, Ontario, Canada.  ajb007/mad It was an awful kit that needed a lot of effort to make decent...but it turned out quite nice. The key is the manufacturer should not put on ANY copyrighted names or symbols in their kits or on their cars that they sell to the public. They can let the new owners do that.... I really doubt a kit builder of any design would have any legal issues. On the other hand, you may recall that old black Ferrari GTO from the 80s TV cop show Miami Vice...I think built by McBurnie ? on a Vette chassis....Enzo went after him aggressively or so I heard. Perhap that is just a KitCar urban legend.  ajb007/rolleyes

I would love to find out more about Mr. Rogers and his creation. After building a Speedster kit, I would really favour GRP panels attached to a modified unibody car...like a Volvo p1800...same wheelbase within 1/2" I believe...easier to get certified, insured, etc. But there are a number of approaches to custom auto construction.
