Watched Skyfall on B.Ray-opinions?

Beautiful and amazing picture! the China scenes especially are outstanding.

As I watched the movie at home i found myself enjoying it in a more 'ambient' or 'atmospheric' way.

The film is even more 'western-y" when seen at home in a more cozy environment.
This is a good thing because a good western movie pulls you into its location and surroundings, sets a good and slow tone, (making you feel as though you are there in the story, observing the characters up close).
The music was intentionally low key and relaxed (again, atmospheric) in an effort to enhance the cool and calm vibe that is evident throughout the picture.

there was even the requisite western 'shoot-out' at the end.

Skyfall is a very visally artistic and slow paced movie that allows us to enjoy Bond elements in a different way from before. We are invited to allow ourselves to become absorbed in such subtle aspects (sound of rain, brightness of colors, we can breathe Severine's cigarette smoke for ex, feel the chill of 'the storm coming', etc..).
A great experience on Blue Ray in my opinion.

I picked it up yesterday morning! I posted in James Bond Films since it's now with the others in my blu ray collection :)

The picture is quite incredible. Colors stand out more so than the theater; detail is unbelievable! The sound is superb. I get the same booms I got in the theater, and that's without a high quality sound system.

I think it was better in my basement than in the theater! The Shooting Bond documentary is very entertaining as well :)

The transfer is utterly mesmerizing. It looks like 2k compared to some other Blu-Rays I have. Also, the special features are nice, and the commentary is great!

My only gripe is the box-art, which I made a thread about ;)

the one negative aspect to the great and wonderful picture on the Blue ray is (you guessed it!) it REEEAAALLLY brings out Craig's imperfections.

I had not considered him as being 'brutish' or 'thuggish' in appearance before, but all that has changed now. In this film, he most defininetely doesn't look like Bond.

Severine's assertion that a 'handsome man' has walked into the casino is rather awkwardly stated and heard by Craig. You almost expect Craig to look behind his shoulder looking for this 'handsome' fellah she just alluded to.

Beautiful and amazing picture! the China scenes especially are outstanding. - I couldn't agree more Halcon.

The film looks absolutely incredible in B. Ray. This movie seems to grow on me more every time I see it.

I do have to disagree with your comment regarding the casino scene. Severine and Bond talking at the casino is one of my favorite scenes in the film.

Perfect picture & sound enhance the beautiful film. My only complaint is I would love to have the IMAX aspect ratio & access to the many deleted scenes that we seen in the trailers & vlogs

Haven't had time to watch the Blu Ray yet but I have to agree, they should have done the Blu Ray in the IMAX ratio. Normally I really dislike when films shot in 2.40 to 1 are cropped to fit the 16:9 HD TV ratio (HBO is notorious for this) but "Skyfall" was actually composed during filming for both the "scope" and IMAX ratios. The 1.90 to 1 IMAX ratio is actually not cropped but contains more picture at the top and bottom and would fit better on an HD TV. I have a sneaking feeling that we are going to get a "Super Deluxe IMAX Edition with Deleted Scenes" at some point as the producers continue to think of ways to get deeper into our pockets in between films.

    Hello Smoke!
The Casino scene is a great scene, I agree. Everything about the China act in the movie is superb!
(fave part of the movie really, along with the pts) Severine is gorgeous and all that...
...it's just Craig's flaws that are magnified by the picture quality.

Does anyone here have the 50th Anniversary Blu-Ray collection, and have bought the blu-ray disc, confirm whether or not the disc has the same cover art as all of the discs in the collections. Should look like these:

    Thanks.

It's the same exact layout, but the colors are reversed. The disc is white with black SKYFALL lettering and a black 007 logo. An image of Craig is on the bottom half of the disc, but it's hidden when tucked in its slot. It does look similar and it fits nicely with the page.

That seems well thought out. It looks nice in the Bond 50 collection.

I was also going to mention that it is the same style as the 50th set. I actually don't have the discs in the books because I found it difficult to remove them and didn't want to damage the books / discs so I put them all in jewel cases anyway

IMO, Craig looks the same in the Blu Ray transfer as he did in the excellent Digital IMAX presentation and Sony 4k Digital projections I saw in the cinema. To me, he just looks like a weathered, craggy guy in his early 40's who's got some tough miles on his odometer (Navy Special Boat Services, Gov assassin, lots of fist fights, shot, stabbed, tortured, etc).
I do think they need to get rid of the super close cropped buzz cut (IMO it really does contribute to the "thug" look) and go back to the more classic hairstyle he had in "QOS".
