if its held in check it's fine, but too much would be disastrous. One of (the for me) negative elements in recent times is the Bondiverse being inward looking and self generating storylines. We could debate when precisely it started but TWINE is as good a place as any.Its important that the films are not about Bond, his life, or psychopathology. These can and should emerge during the narrative but should not be it's central concern. We have seen far too much of this in the Dench era. So my concern is precisely that, a concern that a fragile balance could be disturbed if more back story was a focus. I could almost smell a Mendes-Babs- Craig love fest that would not be able to resist a narrative centred upon  the death of Bonds parents. Enough already. lets get Bond back out in the world, exposing his inner turmoil along the way if he must.

Re: Bond 24 Thread

I wouldn't mind little mentions of back story here and there but nothing too much plot driven. Little mentions here and there about how bond blew up his childhood home could be a running joke or something like that.

Re: Bond 24 Thread

There is no need for spending much time on Bond's past in Bond 24, especcially since Skyfall was so backstory heavy. Perhaps they could include a nod to Bond's background in the navy, possibly a SBS raid at the end?

Re: Bond 24 Thread

I don't think we need any more back story in Bond 24. I think Skyfall covered the majority of it and looking at the past and future fitted it with Skyfall being the 50th anniversary film. We need to look solely on the future now!

Could not agree more.

I can't wait to see Bond back in M's old office with the double doors again. When was the last time they had that? The Living Daylights?

Re: Bond 24 Thread

Didn't the new M's office in Skyfall feature double doors?

Yeah just briefly at the end. I mean like its gonna be really cool seeing him get missions from that room again with Moneypenny sitting next door. Just like the old days.

Re: Bond 24 Thread

Then we agree completely. It was probably in TLD the double doors were seen last (before Skyfall), because I don't think we saw M's office in LTK.

MGM Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Gary Barber has been speaking about Bond 24. "We are very excited about the franchise, we look forward to announcing a director soon. We are currently developing the screenplay and working with our partners. We look forward to developing the script soon and signing a director. We are hoping within the next three years it will be released."

This is a good sign, although I would be happier if their was more concrete news to report such as writer John Logan has begun working on a script or the Producers are looking at candidates for the director's chair.

Re: Bond 24 Thread

3 years??? I hope they make it in 2. I thought the only reason it took so long before was because MGM was having financial problems.

2016 would be another 4 years after Skyfall.

I hope they make it by 2014 as well. I also would LOVE to see Blofeld return.  ajb007/bond

Re: Bond 24 Thread

I hope it's done sooner as well. Craig is 45 now, so he could be 46/47 when filming Bond 24. That means if he's contracted for another, and Bond 25 takes 3/4 years, he's at risk of having a Moore/AVTAK moment and looking too old for the job. Obviously that might not happen he might still look good enough to be Bond but it's a risk.

That doesn't hide from the fact that the wheels are slowly turning in the making of Bond 24 isn't very exciting

Re: Bond 24 Thread

I'd say: Strike while the iron is hot. Skyfall was a huge succes so why not grab the chance to capitalize on that? Last year the entire world was in a Bond mania not unlike it was during the '60's, it would be foolish to wait too long with Bond 24 IMHO. It is not like Craig other movies have been a huge succes so he might as well start filming the next 007 movie asap.

That was the plan with Quantum of Solace. I liked the end result of Skyfall better. And I'd rather we only got one more good Craig film than two hurried entries.

Re: Bond 24 Thread

I agree. They should take the time to do it right.

I'm not convinced that taking an extra year or two results in a better movie.

Re: Bond 24 Thread

I hope they take a more sensible view. When they have a great plot, great script, great director etc  - then they should make the film, whether it takes 1-2 or 2-3 years.

Who now owns the rights to Blofeld and SPECTRE? I thought that after the last court case, McClory's rights to the characters may have passed back to EON? Or maybe the Fleming Estate?

That would determine whether the characters can be used again or not.

Big scoop on yahoo news yesterday, Bond film might be in the next 3 years! Wow!

But if Logan has had his drafts accepted, surely it's a case of let's get going.

It doesn't. A great script can be written in weeks, whereas a poor script can be rewritten constantly and still never be any good.

George Lucas had years planning the Star Wars prequels and they were crap. The same with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - script after script and still a crap film. And more recently, Prometheus, a complete pile of facehugger turds despite the long period of development.

I believe the young guy playing the new Q let it slip that  he and Craig start filming at the end of this year for an autumn 2014 release.
