Stone, Campbell, Ritchie or Jones then!

Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool. Craig is too.

I don't know about James Cameron since he is commited to the Avatar squeals at the  moment and I believe he said some time ago that in the post 9/11 world he is no longer intrested in the action genre.

Alfonso Cuaron is my pick, even though I wish he was directing Star Wars 7.

That's a great choice! Incidentally, has a voice credit for QoS.

Re: Article: Who should direct the next James Bond movie?

One out of the box idea is for Ralph Fiennes to direct it. His adaptation of Coriolanus has 94% on rotton tomatoes, and he already knows the actors.

32

Re: Article: Who should direct the next James Bond movie?

Ang Lee was considered back when Brosnan was still James Bond, so why not now?

I really liked his work on Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and just about everything he has done since has been high quality. Ralph Fiennes is an interesting choice too, while I have not seen Coriolanus I would fine if he directed since he knows the actors and being from a theatre background proubly knows his stuff from a director's point of view.

Re: Article: Who should direct the next James Bond movie?

This will probably raise a few eyebrows. Marc Forster has moved ahead of Guy Ritchie in the latest betting on who will be the director of Bond 24.

I am not a fan of David Fincher, but otherwise, I think it's a good list. Of these, my choices would be Brad Bird, Rian Johnson, Steven Soderbergh, or Darren Aronofsky.

Soderbergh has retired.

I like Fincher, he has very good credibility.  I also want to see Marty Campbell do it again, he nailed it with Goldeneye and well, dont need to mention Casino...

Re: Article: Who should direct the next James Bond movie?

My first choice would be Brad Bird, though I think Paul Greengrass, Terence Davies or Steve McQueen (the director not the late actor) would all bring something different.

Re: Article: Who should direct the next James Bond movie?

I would like to see someone with experience but a little unexpected. Ang Lee would be an interesting choice, but I would be excited with Peter Weir (Master and Commander, Gallipoli, the Year of Living Dangerously, Witness). He has a record of making crowdpleasers with a more substance than your average action film and has worked with some high profile names.

Re: Article: Who should direct the next James Bond movie?

I think I would like Christopher Nolan to have a go and I wouldn't be adverse to Guy Ritchie either as he seems to have matured as a director ( and rediscovered his talent since ditching Madonna).

I wasn't impressed with Sam Mendes at all, so not too upset at his non return.

Some bits of SF left me yawning. Got a bit arty and clever at times which I put down to the director. Same with Marc Forster in QoS.

Bond is primarily an action series and I would like to see a director who's first priority was the action and not focusing on some wistful faraway look across a Shanghai skyline.

I understand the need for action...but without a storyline its pointless....and I'm happy with a bit of arty-farty stuff every now and then ajb007/lol

The "arty and clever" bits are actually what I loved about SF and QoS. I love it when directors bring an arthouse sensibility to genre films. (Examples: Wages of Fear, Manhunter, Drive, Hanna, The American, the Bourne Trilogy, Ghost Dog, Dead Man, Le Samourai, Le Cercle Rouge, and so on.)

Please, don't call SF pointess. Sure, it's storyline was even thinner than QOS', but it had smashing dialogue, and was a rousing tale overall! Bond's don't always need a story to make sense- look at DAD, thick plot, fairly well structured, and the movie still came out rather a mess from lacklustre direction. Mendes delivered in that dept.

Re: Article: Who should direct the next James Bond movie?

For every complaint like yours about not enough action in Skyfall, there's one like this from a recent post:

"Less action and more plot. Recent films seem to bounce from action sequence to action sequence. The films offer nothing but. It is tiresome to the point that I wonder if 24 is really viable or desirable."

Apparently it's not only the case that you can't please everybody, sometimes you can't please anybody! ajb007/rolleyes
