Topic: Uppercase and Lowercase User Names on AJB - An Observation

I was just wondering why it is that in the main the members with capital letters in their usernames such as Firemass to take an ally as an example, while, again in the main, the usernames of those in the Collecting and Merchandise forums are all lowercase and have letters after their names, cyclones122 being just one example. I see a pattern here - are the collector's names handles for some portal elsewhere on the interweb or am I reading too much into this? Maybe I've been online for too long today...but I'd be interested to see if my theory is correct or not.

You've been reading too many Gardner books.  Paranoia has set in.

I think we have a reunion here at AJB. Someone from the past, Silhouette Man?

No, he's just an idiot troll that copied my account name from CBn a month after I created it and is trying to act all innocent. He's not fooling anyone. I told him the same in PM and in public on BaB forums. ajb007/rolleyes He even copied the Backwoods idea from me as a location as well as my favourite Bond actor and film. Coincidence? I think not.

Now, back on track - why do the Collecting forum people nearly always seem to use lower case words as usernames along with numbers - it's uncanny.

Does anyone know what I mean here?

Anyone out there?

I've not been drinking Toilet Duck.

I'm in the collecting forum, been there for 9 years now.  I don't have all lower case and off the top of my head can name at least ten other prominent members there that don't either.

Re: Uppercase and Lowercase User Names on AJB - An Observation

Perhaps I should request a name change. If I used the same handle here as I do on other non-Bond message boards Silhouette Mans mind might be blown. Hint, it's a lower case number followed by three numbers (not 007 ajb007/wink )

Some people would complain even if you hang them with a new rope

I wasn't actually saying that all of them were this way, just that if you click on a lower case username and number, usually not Bond related it always seems that they post in the Collecting forums. Try it the next time you log on and there are a range of hyperlinked usernames logged in. I thought maybe that these handles were used on a collecting hub elsewhere, but I assume that I was wrong about that? I just thought that I would share my little observation with you all - I don't see anything particularly strange about it to be honest. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.  ajb007/confused

Re: Uppercase and Lowercase User Names on AJB - An Observation

What I was really getting at in this thread is the dichotomy between the Collecting forums and those that are interested in the James Bond character and style in the films and novels and elsewhere. Most people who post in the Collecting forums seem only to post there and vice versa on those who post about the James Bond phenomenon as a whole. When I click on a name, I can almost always be certain whether their posts are on Collecting mainly or on the Bond flms and novels mainly - so I thought perhaps that there might have been a reason for this. It seems that my thread was rather misconstrued by some members here, but I guess that this sometimes happens, despite one's best intentons.  ajb007/crap

AJB has gotten itself a name as THE place to come for Bond collecting (thanks to its knowledgeable and extremely talented members)...so it's inevitable that lots of people will come here just for that forum alone...I don't think there is much in your theory though...  ajb007/martini

It's just that I can almost guess the user's interests based on their username...I still think I was onto something...but I agree AJB is the best place for collectables. No harm to AJB intended, Sir Miles, just me thinking aloud so to speak.

I have given AJB the top recommendation onmy blog; MI6 Community being the only other one that gets that status.  ajb007/smile

Oh, don't start that! They did that over on BaB too before I was banned until January 2038.  ajb007/lol

I have had over 9000 hits since last year, averaging at around 2000 hits a month by this stage. No mean feat for a niche Bond blog with a small target audience.

I actually had a member (Le Samurai) convert to BaB through my recommendation - he posted as much, so don't pooh-pooh the blog's relevance. Plus, one of my readers and commentators is Martin Amis.  ajb007/smile
