Topic: Release Date in the UK: 23rd October 2015

According to the official 007 twitter and facebook pages, Bond 24 will be released on 23rd October 2015 and 6th November in the US. Sam Mendes will be back to direct with screenplay by John Logan, and of course Craig  back as Bond.

Thoughts?

I'm pleasantly surprised!

I have lost all interest. Craig lpoked too old in Skyfall so who knows what he will look like in another 3 years. I think he should bow out. Also give someone else a chance to direct, or are they forever going to ride on the back of Skyfall?

But Craig won't be three years older  ajb007/confused

And it makes sense to bring them all back again...it certainly worked well for lots of people last time out...

When I read it was coming out in October, I thought, wow, they must be starting filming now!

Then I saw, it's not even next year, it's the year after!!

Something tells me it's gonna be Craig's swansong somehow.

Can't say I'm thrilled. I hope they develop what was good about Skyfall and limit the navel gazing/backstory potential. Also concerned that the long gap won't work in DC's favour...lets face it he's not a fine wine and is not ageing well. The knackered/burnt out look worked in Skyfall, but I can't imagine that it will work twice. Skyfall would have been the perfect Swansong IMO. We are potentially in a similar position as with the ageing Roger, in as much as huge success drove continuing longer than was ideal. hope I'm wrong.

Not massively interested so will probably lie low and check in here very occasionally as I don't anticipate that this view will be shared or welcomed by many as any 'dissent' from the majority view gets pretty short shrift around here.

Bye for now.

It's a ridiculously long gap between films. Yes, I know it's not the 60s/70s any more, and film-making has changed and we can't expect a new Bond film every year or even two but as far as I know there aren't any legal problems this time and SF made record-breaking amounts of money; I'd think they'd be keen to repeat that. Craig entering "too old" territory after 3 films- hell, during his 3rd!- and a perfect springboard to new adventures at the end of SF potentially going to waste.

Re: Release Date in the UK: 23rd October 2015

maybe they realized how well they went with 3-4 year gaps recently.

Box office numbers just fly up because everybody is starving for a new Bond after that time.

It would make sense spending once the budget every 4 years and get a billion in return instead of putting a movie on the market every 2 years for a double budget in total with the same total visitor numbers in total for both movies  ajb007/confused

Interesting to see what the new film will look like.  I only hope they dont do a sequel of skyfall.

I'm sorry and a bit surprised you feel that way, Zap. I never got the impression that if one dissents from the majority view that you are somehow ostracized. Perhaps it depends on how you express that view, e.g. if you indicate that you believe anyone who doesn't feel the way you do is an idiot. I don't recall you ever coming across that way. I have stated many times that I think Roger Moore is an awful James Bond, and I think that opinion goes against the majority view. But I've never been made to feel unwelcomed because of my views. I hope you will reconsider.

I like the idea of having them all back.  It gives them a chance to build on what they ended with in Skyfall.  This could be the film that gets back to the more typical old school Bond vibe.  To me, if another director was to come in, you might not build off on what was left at the end of Skyfall.   Just my thoughts.

I am just glad we have a Bond film coming!

Indeed.

I hope Bond 24 won't contain any more analogies comparing James Bond to a sewer rat and then showing him running through tunnels.

Playwright John Logan and director Sam Mendes -- which probably means photographer Roger Deakins will return as well since he and Mendes work together -- are a dream-team. No doubt the brilliant Daniel Kleinman will do the titles again. But with Daniel Craig wearing the suit and Barbara Broccoli's agenda over-riding the story, a new Bond film is hardly worth looking forward to.

The top 7 Bond films: 1)  Dr No.   2) From Russia With Love.  3) Thunderball.  4) On Her Majesty's Secret Service.  5) For Your Eyes Only.  6) The Living Daylights.  7) Licence to Kill.

Re: Release Date in the UK: 23rd October 2015

I'm now starting to think that three years between films in any franchise is the standard: see Batman, Spider-Man, etc., etc.  There are a lot of reports how these big-budget films are likely to be the death of Hollywood; and certainly it takes more money and effort to get any film launched.  I used to think it was funny to count the number of logos for studios and production companies would be at the beginning of any British film; but now it's become common in American films too--a lot of people have to absorb the cost.  Gone are the days when a producer could just whip up the money and get the production designer to work on the studio set--these are now massive international productions that take a year or more just to get through the development stage.

As others believe also, this isn't true...as long as you are constructive and are not rude on a personal level....which some do as they cannot formulate a coherent argument....

I hope David Arnold gets to do the music, rather than Thomas Newman. Not putting any money on that, though.

Re: Release Date in the UK: 23rd October 2015

Good news about them finally getting it sorted, would have preferred somebody else then Mendes if im honest however the main thing is they can now start development.  Enjoyed Skyfall but personally find its not that re-watchable for some reason.

Believe Logan has already said that he has plenty of back story and depth of character stuff yet to come therefore I would expect the same again and not a Brosnan Style thrill that many are hoping for.

I reckon Bond 25 will be Craigs last and I hope they finish the Quantum thing off but I feel it never will

Thats what they said would happen after Skyfall however I guess they were optimistic, looks like Craig was really knackered after this last one and I guess they chased Mendes hard to sign on (wonder what price he named to do another).
