A MODERN James Bond ROLEX SUBMARINER

So this is for the Watch and Rolex nuts and experts here - so Sir Miles is not welcome :D

Someof you know that besides the Octopussy egg, the idea of creating a modern James Bond Rolex is spinning in my head for some time:

As I don't have enough cash to buy the original:

RX6538-GILT-02.jpg (I know that the GF Sub had ft first...)

and even if, would never wear such an Oldtimer, I have been asking myself, which watch Rolex would do for the contemporary James Bond.

Project X gave a pretty good reply to that question some years ago:

with some room for improvements imo.

Now another Projext X concept just came up and I'd like to hear the expert's opinion about that new baby:

    And didn't cost £15000!!!

Well, that price is absolutely ridiculous, - agreed and there are certainly better and cheaper alternatives.

from this shot you can see, that they only removed the pearl surrounding and straightened the surface a bit.

Is there any information, if the Dr. No Sub - GF Sub had a red triangle or a white one?

Is that a gash 'woops i got the sun reflecting in the dial' shot, a crappy photoshopped attempt or just a blatent show off 'look heres my stupidly priced rolex.... oh no i managed to get the fezza in the shot, never mind' shot?

some people 8-) all the gear and no idea.... :p

The Dr No - Thunderball watch had a silver triangle and no minute markers on the bezel.

Good catch Bondtoys! I saw this last night and when I first saw it I thought it was a Rolex product. Then, I realized it was a special project and that Project X would be making these. As for the red triangle, yes they did exist. They are predominantly thought to be on the 5510's although they do turn up on 6538's. I've even seen them on 6200's, but I'm not sure how original that is. However, the red triangle did not appear on the Connery/Bond Submariner.

    Thanks guys for your input.

Glad to get reconfirmed that the triangle was white on the Bond Subs.

Now here is my slight critic with the shown almost-perfect watch (if I would try to achieve a modern Bond Sub - which it is not)

    - lume aging: I find the lume aging pretty but would not do it if I'd created a modern Bond watch. I assume that when new the Radium lume was slightly green-tinted white but not yellowish.

    - whitegold lume surroundings: I would consider having them white-painted or blackened - not sure, if I'd paint all hands white (I love that so much on the Breguet XX and our eyes are not getting any better :D )

    - bezel pip: I'd keep the original bezel pearl - if I'd touch it, I'd get it lowered so that it's smooth in the insert

    - Bezel insert: I'd corrundum-blast the ceramic bezel to take away the extremely glossy surface - like they did with the Pelagos insert :x

    - crown and tube: Though the old Big Crown is beautiful, if destroys the concept imo. Contrary to a >50k 6538, this watch should be worn and the modern tubuses and crowns are so much better than the vintage parts. I can love that Big Crown for what it is - but I'd leave the watch with the original tubus and crown just to make it as ridgid as possible.

    Very cool indeed!!!

I sort of like the lume aging.

Dont like the red triangle (despite them existing, I guess its not what has become associated with the Sub over the years)

Not sure if its the way they have done it or im simply not used to it but the crown and tube looks a bit strange

So this is a project X design???? Unusual to not see their logo on the watch, its the one thing I don't like about their custom watches, I guess since it is a anniversary kinda thing they obviously can't for a change (or have I missed it)

I think it's a nice looking piece, however I think Rolex did it better with their Tudor 79220R Black Bay. The Black Bay actually uses a coin edged bezel similar to the early Subs. This new Project X does not. Likewise, the Black Bay uses a big 8mm crown but it is not an exact copy of the original. Just waiting for Rolex to do their own homage big crown. If they kept it affordable, they would sell a boat load of them. Wishful thinking I guess.

As far as I understand, Philippe Stahl had the idea and ProjectX executes it.
Philippe also is behind the HTE watches:

I also like the lume colouring - but with a modern interpretation of the Connery Sub, I'd prefer to have the lume white.
