Topic: Has anybody went for a full year without watching a Bond film?

I've wondered about this; it's quite interesting to me. How long can we go without Bond? We love (I would think most of) the films, but who here thinks maybe "too much is too much", and has gone for a full calendar year without seeing a single Bond film?

It's one thing I've considered doing, but there's ALWAYS one or more entries which I haven't re-visited for a while, and that makes me want to see them.

I welcome your thoughts on the matter.

I've done this several times over the years...sometimes by choice, sometimes through life getting in the way...

I don't know. I rotate Bond with my other film and series. I'd say six months at the longest?

This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

Re: Has anybody went for a full year without watching a Bond film?

When i was about 12-13 years old, I wouldn't watch Bond at all outside of summer. That's when I'd do my marathon. Since then, i can't go a month without Bond!

Not sure, I may have in recent years. Not deliberately, but it's a drag seeing them on telly sometimes (they were repeated so often) and I don't have to get a DVD out.

I've never considered it... I think I didn't watch a Bond movie in 2009... these days I might go three or four months max.

Dalton & Connery rule. Brozz was cool. Craig is too.

I have them on continuously!  They are all saved in BOTH my TiVo boxes, and in my iPhone X.  I am never far from a Bond movie, even if just on in the background as I am getting ready for work or a night out.

So the answer to the question is NO.

Re: Has anybody went for a full year without watching a Bond film?

I'm the kind of Bond fan who reads anything about Bond on a daily basis without a need to watch the movies.  My yearly viewing of OHMSS during the holidays ensures that a year doesn't pass without me watching at least one film, but there were some years I couldn't get around to doing that and among those years, there must have been at least one year that I didn't get in a Bond movie.  ...more sad, is that when I do pop in a Bond movie, I'd skip over some scenes, case in point with DAD, which I stopped watching once they were on board the North Korean plane, lol.

Re: Has anybody went for a full year without watching a Bond film?

I'm pretty sure that since I saw my first Bond film - which was about 22 years ago - there has never been a year that has gone by without watching a Bond film. Sometimes it feels like I haven't watched a Bond in ages, and then when I actually think about it it hasn't been that long at all. For instance, right now I feel like it's been a long time since I watched a Bond film, but then I see a post from less than three months ago where I mentioned that I had just re-watched DAD (Considering that the film was DAD, it's no wonder I'd forgotten about it  ajb007/shifty )

Re: Has anybody went for a full year without watching a Bond film?

Yes. In fact, longer than a year. I have all the films on DVD so can go to them whenever I wish. But I don't. I find myself watching other things, usually films from the '60s & '70s (my favourite eras). All Bonds are great but as I get older I prefer the Connery films for their pacing & the Moores for their wit & spectacle. Lazenby's film still remains my overall favourite.
But when April 2020 gets nearer I shall no doubt return to all the films in turn. Revisiting them will get me pumped up for the new film & reinvigorate my interest in Bond all over again. I just can't watch the films on a regular basis that's all. Less is more for me, I'm afraid.

Re: Has anybody went for a full year without watching a Bond film?

That's me, can't remember when I last opened my Box Set and watched a Bond Movie, now I do have a plan to start over or just after Christmas and New Year so I can watch them and catch up before No Time To Die in April 2020.

Re: Has anybody went for a full year without watching a Bond film?

It's been ten years since I marathoned them all. Over the last year, I had a brief phase when I saw maybe four. Really, I can go years, as I like to see something I haven't seen over something I have.

Yep, at least in the theater.  How about for the entire three years of Dalton's run. ajb007/lol

Re: Has anybody went for a full year without watching a Bond film?

I’ve gone almost two years without watching a single Bond movie. Life caught up to me real quick and I was focusing most of my attention on now trying to become a responsible adult. It’s hard but I have been able to handle it.

My first Bond movie in two years was believe it or not, used to be my least favorite, Moonraker of all movies. Maybe it’s because I’m now trying to get my engineer’s certification but I’m starting to like that movie now  ajb007/lol

Re: Has anybody went for a full year without watching a Bond film?

Whenever I get super into something I sort of get my thinking closed off for other things, especially with how heavily into Bond I got while I was around the first time around.

I think it's been 1-2 years since I'd seen a full Bond movie and I broke that recently with Skyfall.
Life caught up with me and other assorted troubles that came along with that sorta stopped me from watching these.
Other problem is ease of access, there was a point that because they were all in my external hard drive that it was difficult for me to sit down and actually watch pretty much any movie because of that since my space was limited.

Needless to say, I've changed a lot in terms of how I consider movies now with how it's turning out for me. I can't not have it somehow in my life so I'm gonna get back on here while keeping a bit of my distance now so that I won't burn out.
It's...gonna be interesting.

a reasonable rate of return

Re: Has anybody went for a full year without watching a Bond film?

Doubt it, the films are never off the telly which for me lead to over-exposure and a wain in my desire to watch them. Glad however that there are so many to watch, unlike other franchises...Harry potter, mission impossible etc where fans might have a choice of five or six movies to get their fix from. I have been a huge Bond fan since Diamonds are forever (1971) and at that point i already had seven films to turn to, they were regularly shown in cinemas as double bills and i just couldn't get enough, of-course when they were made available on dvd i bought the lot and watched them regularly so over-exposure was inevitable, now when i see the tv listings i don't even blink when i see that a Bond film is on, but it,s a habit i can't shake and Bond has been in my life since i was a 12 year old kid and i am now 61.. so NO i definetly haven't gone a whole year without seeing at least one and almost certainly more  ajb007/wink

ive smelt that aftershave before and both times ive smelt a rat

Re: Has anybody went for a full year without watching a Bond film?

I suspect I haven't gone for more than a year without watching a Bond film...six months, maybe?  As silvertoe notes, they are on ITV all the time nowadays, so you're bound to catch at least a few seconds of one while channel-hopping every so often. I do try and pace myself watching the Bond films though, so I don't get bored or burnt out- I don't think I could marathon several of them at once, for instance. Fortunately my Bond interest has strongly reignited of late with the hype building for NTTD...
