"Skyfall" wins Grammy: Best song written for visual media

After over 1 year from the movie release, Adele's title song grabs another award, this time it's a Grammy!

I just don't understand one thing: why was it even in the contenders list? "Skyfall" was made in 2012, so I guess it should be nominated one year ago, but here we are in 2014 and the song still got nominated, can somebody explain this to me? :D

    It's obviously to do with release dates...same as the Oscars and other award ceremonies...

    The release window for this year's Grammy awards was Oct. 1, 2012 to Sept. 30, 2013. Skyfall (the song) was released on 5 October 2012.
