I must say David Schofield makes some good points. Having not thought of it before, yes you are right, perhaps it's time for DC to hang up his trunks. Who would replace him though? Are there any British (yes he's got to be British) actors who could take his place?
!

Chuck two candidates at you.

If you want "phwoar, cracking physique (so keeping BB's interest) AND he can act (see RUSH) but is younger than DC and, erm, might make cinematography easier in other ways" I offer Chris Hemsworth*.

If you want 'anti-Craig' - a new James Bond interpretation, more Fleming, less naval gazing, wee bit less OTT action - its got to be Benedict Cumberbatch.

* why not Henry Cavill? Well acting's not his strength, is it?

Re: Skyfall "Most over-rated film of all time"

I don't want to call Skyfall overrated because it's a great movie.

At the same time, there are lots of just-as-great films out there that don't as much praise.

Re: Skyfall "Most over-rated film of all time"

This is how people react to me when I say Skyfall isn't a top 5 Bond movie:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76p_ncbffCE

Here's an interesting dialogue I had.

Me: I saw Skyfall.  It's a very good movie, but maybe um...
Him: Maybe, what?
Me: I mean, maybe..  Just maybe.  It's a teeny teeny teeny bit overrated.
Him: What...?
Me: Just a little bit.  It's still a very good movie and I enjoyed it.
Him: Overrated?!?
Me: But it's still a very good movie.. it's just... uh...
Him: How dare you come and try to ruin my movie!
Me: I'm not... I'm not!
Him: Just because you think its a bad movie doesn't mean I can't enjoy it.
Me: I never said it was bad!!!
Him: Whatever.

Welcome, A_C. I vividly remember bringing my very specific Bondian opinions to this site when I joined. It's a heady group of minds here---a great intellectual playground.

Maybe SF is the modern Thunderball, in that it made a fortune at
The box office but is not regarded by many as the best ?  ajb007/wink
Although I feel really proud that once again a Bond is the most

This community, so far, seems to be one of the most rationale fanbases around.

Re: Skyfall "Most over-rated film of all time"

Someone somewhere made a very telling point that Bond had morphed into Borne. I have never seen any of the Borne films but it seems to be a sad fact that, where once Bond was copied, the film makers seem to be following others. This was the case for me with the hugely disappointing QoS, naively I thought Skyfall couldn't be any worse but sadly it was. I hold no prospect of improvement with the coming film. Indeed I shall give it a miss altogether.

223

Re: Skyfall "Most over-rated film of all time"

That's a pity, since the little we know so far sounds promising. (And it's Bourne, btw, not Borne)

224

Re: Skyfall "Most over-rated film of all time"

Apart from the editing in QOS, I don't recognise any Bourne in Bond.  ajb007/wink
Bond is still suave, sophisticated, gambling and heavy drinker.  ajb007/biggrin
He still gets plenty of action in the bedroom ( and not just redecorating
It, as in my world )  ajb007/lol
As it's a reboot of the series with CR showing a new " rough diamond "
007, and SF introducing once again the one liners, some interplay with
Q and Moneypenny etc.
Only my opinion but Craig ( as Bond) even walks with the swagger of some
Of the older  007s.  ajb007/martini
Although  I've seen the Bourne films but only once or twice when they're on TV
So I'm no expert, so perhaps  there are some similarities, that others have noticed
But for me Craig has become Bond, very nicely. A contemporary version of course
As you couldn't transplant  a 60s Bond into the modern world.
In fact from the little bits and pieces  coming out about Bond24, I'm all fired up  ajb007/cheers
It sounds fantastic, great cast and crew, locations and some interesting action
Sequences.  ajb007/biggrin

Re: Skyfall "Most over-rated film of all time"

As I've said I've never seen the Bourne films (that's why I don't know how to spell it). I found a small pattern emerged when new Bonds take over. Their first film is good & true to character while subsequent ones become increasing detached from the subject matter. In Craigs case CS was an excellent film, introducing him to the audience in the best traditions of Bond - QoS just an extended chase scene & ditto with Skyfall.

I know you're supposed to suspend belief but one example of the bugbears I had with SF was the fact that when Ms life was in danger, what happened? She went out into the middle of nowhere with one man for protection! Personally I found the whole scenario ridiculous.
