Topic: (Bond 24) SPECTRE's Opening Credits Theme Song.

Are you guys worried that the next Opening Credits Theme Song for the new Bond film might turn out to be crap? Because twice Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have proved that they have no taste in music when they chose Sheryl Crow over K.D. Lang for the Tomorrow Never Dies theme song and they chose Jack White and Alicia Keys over Amy Winehouse for the Quantum of Solace theme song.

I dunno...  taste is a relative thing..  Not sure if Winehouse would have been a huge improvement.. I actually liked the collaboration between Keys & White..  Will agree on Sherly Crow's not being the best.. (Not a big fan of Tina Turner's cat screeching Goldeneye either for that matter...  but again.. comes down to relative taste)..  In the end they knocked it out of the park with Adele..  I'm still optomistic that Sam Smith (if that rumor is true) can deliver..

Not worried at all. Although I much preferred k.d. lang's "Surrender" to Sheryl Crow's "Tomorrow Never Dies", I didn't think the theme song was crap. And although I was disappointed by the Keys/White collaboration, that was the first theme song that I felt was a real misfire since Octopussy's "All Time High". And yes, that includes Madonna's "Die Another Day". So no, I'm not concerned.

Well, I do think QoS would have been a lot better if they decided to use the song written by David Arnold and performed by Shirley Bassey. If you listen to that song during the opening credits the entire score for the movie makes a lot more sense because Arnold used the theme throughout the rest of the movie.

I loved the Bassey/Arnold song  ajb007/martini would have suited the film much better.

I loved Eva Almer's song (Forever - I Am All Yours) even more than Bassey/Arnold. Would also have suited the film much better than White/Keys. (Just my opinion)  ajb007/biggrin

White/Keys was a rare misfire, for me it is more than likely that Bond 24's title song will be up to standard.

Yeah a shame this didn't make the theme. Great theme would love to hear Dame Shirley do one more. Saw her on Graham Nortons chat show the other week and thought why not!. She can still hold the notes.

From

A track on Dame Shirley Bassey's new album "The Performance" has caused a bit of a stir in the James Bond fan community. The song "No Good About Goodbye", written by 007 composer David Arnold and lyricist Don Black, had some fan sites speculating it was a rejected theme song for the last movie "Quantum of Solace". The rumour was solely hooked on the familiarity of the opening string line compared to the movie's score.

Mr Arnold confirmed to MI6 that the song was not a 'rejected theme' for "Quantum of Solace". Apart from the opening string line, there was no material from the movie soundtrack. Only a few lines of the song were written and it was far from complete by the time Jack White and Alicia Keys were chosen to perform "Another Way To Die", said Mr Arnold.

Did they ever say why they chose Sheryl Crow's Tomorrow Never Dies over K.D. Lang's Surrender?

Paloma Faith was top of my wish list, epic voice, stylish, brilliantly British and she's actually met with Dame Shirley a couple of times recently so I was kinda hoping she was asking for pointers. Well a man can dream.... ajb007/lol

Re: (Bond 24) SPECTRE's Opening Credits Theme Song.

It's a shot in the dark, I think. Casino Royale had a brilliant, supremely underrated theme song by Chris Cornell. "Another Way to Die" from Quantum of Solace felt right the first time, but it's complete garbage. I liked "Skyfall", although not as much as some people...

I think Sheryl Crowe's was the better song. It's still one of my favourite songs. It has a fantastic vintage vibe to it.

I found this on the web:

Sam cites Amy Winehouse as an influence.[27] He further lists Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Whitney Houston, and Mariah Carey as influences. Sam said about a diva quality to his voice:

"It's all I listened to. I actually didn't listen to male vocalists until about two years ago. I just listened to Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan. Massive voices."

I think Sheryl Crowe's was the better song. It's still one of my favourite songs. It has a fantastic vintage vibe to it.

My class got to rank the Bond singers/songs and Shirley Bassey (Goldfinger), k.d. lang (Surrender), and John Barry (On Her Majesty's Secret Service) ranked at the top while Jack White/Alicia Keys (Another Way to Die),  Sheryl Crow (Tomorrow Never Dies), and Garbage (The World is Not Enough) were at the bottom.  Adele's Skyfall, Carly Simon's The Spy Who Loved Me, and Tina Turner's Goldeneye made it into the top half, but just barely.  They considered a variety of factors, from the lyrics to the melody to the quality of vocals, including diction (which knocked Adele way down . . . "This is the ennnnn", "zat Skyfall" and so forth.

Back on topic, I have wanted Annie Lennox to sing a Bond theme for years, and I would be okay with Muse, Goldfrapp, or Duffy.  My biggest disappointment is that Amy Winehouse never got to do a Bond song.  I wouldn't be surprised, though, if Adele is brought back and will become this generation's Shirley Bassey.

Agreed Amy Whinehouse would have been fantastic and I too
Would love to hear Annie Lennox belt out a Bond theme .  ajb007/cheers
