Predictions on Box Office numbers?

Just interested in everyone's predictions on the Box Office takings.

So, SF took in over $1 billion worldwide; do you think it could go as high this time, or not?

Since its not the 50th anniversary and they wont have the Olympics promotion, will be difficult to eclipse SF's box office, but of course it all depends on how they market it.

I think it will be highest grossing. Anyone who like SF is going to see it, any bond fan is going to see it, anyone who likes action movies is going to see it. Everyone is going to see it.

Respectfully beg to differ. In terms of big releases, SP will have no competition when it comes out. The first big release after SP is the latest Hunger Games, which comes out two weeks later. By then most of the young people will have aalready seen SP and the older audience (Bond audience skews older as action films go) will predominate.

After that, there are no big releases until the Star Wars movie on 12/18.

The biggest determinant in my view will be the reviews. If the reviews are 80% or lower on Rotten Tomatoes, you're looking at CR or QOS + inflation territory ($750-800 million). If it's 90% or higher, you're looking at $1 billion plus.

Unless it gets killed critically, it should get close to or even surpass Skyfall. Bond films are a tradition / brand. With the Craig films, EON was able to once again re-establish the "brand" and find an additional niche as being viewed as very good films in general with a bit more "gravitas" for what that's worth. I agree with Gala's post. Film goers won't choose Hunger Games or Star Wars over SPECTRE.....over the long holiday season they will find time to see them all. The beauty of the multiplex is that films stay around as long as there are butts being put in the seats.

I find it hard to see how it won't gross bigger numbers than SF - there's the added attraction of Christoph Waltz this time around, and Monica Belucci of course and SF tee'd things up nicely with the return to a male 'M', the unveiling of Eve as Moneypenny and SIS in a state of flux.

There'll be every Bond fan who went to see the last movie will want to see Spectre and of course double Oscar winning Waltz will bring a new legion of movie-goers to see just what Oberhausen is all about.

Add in 2 years inflation and the fact that the world is in less of a recession than it was when SF was in cinemas, and I see it grossing over $1 billion.

I can't see it not being successful. It'd have to be a film of monumentally disastrous proportions to bomb, but the talent involved is too great to suggest that'll be the case. I think there was a strong feeling of goodwill for SKYFALL, which SPECTRE may not benefit from, plus the hacking stuff hasn't helped. But all indications thus far suggest SPECTRE may actually be the better film.

I don't think it will do as well as Skyfall, but it will probably come close. Skyfall had a lot more promotion than I had ever seen for a Bond film. They would have to spend at least as much on promotion, and even then I don't think it will do as well. And hopefully people will forget about the bad publicity from the Sony hack.

The Sony hack will be old news by the time SPECTRE is released. The film the hack truly has effected is "The Interview"; for all intents are purposes killing a real theatrical release. Despite some of the rumblings and whining by the execs in the leaked emails production on SPECTRE seems to be moving along well despite some issues with locations in Italy which will be resolved one way or another and probably will not negatively impact the final product. Altenative locations will be found along with a dose of "movie magic" and James Bond will be back in all all his widescreen glory.

I think it will well surpass SF and become the highest grossing Bond film to date. Everything we've read to date suggests the script will be better, the SPECTRE tie in, another new Aston, the possible Bloefeld tie in, Christopher Waltz, as well as the oldest Bond girl (to date)...I'm not sure how it could not do better than previous ones.

I don't remember Skyfall having any more publicity than the other Craig films, and audiences in general didn't care about the 50th anniversary tag; it just wasn't a factor in their decision to buy tickets.

I do believe it will surpass Skyfall. It won't beat Star Wars or Avengers 2. I will say 1.175B worldwide.

Coming off of the mixed reception of QoS, I think that hurt some of the build for Skyfall. Yes they did have 50 year anniversary and Olympics to build on; however, I think this will be similar to the GF-TB bounce. The 6 years between CR and SF along with the 2+ years that have passed since SF will also generate hype for many new young fans. Sometimes the competition helps the box office so long as that they aren't overlapping release dates. When I see a great movie in theaters, it makes me want to go see another blockbuster. If I see a dud, I tend to shy away from the next one. With 2015 loaded up on big releases, I could see a big bump in movie interest this year.

The biggest issue SP will have is going against Hunger Games Part 2, which comes out two weeks after. Star Wars is 6 weeks after so few people will be deciding between Star Wars/SPECTRE at that point. Actually I could see a bit of a rise due to people not getting into sell outs at SW.

Another variable is delayed releases in China and other markets and how they coincide with the other blockbusters. China will likely see a decrease as there is no filming there for SPECTRE as there was in SF.

The only effect "Hunger Games" will have on "SPECTRE" will be IMAX numbers as "Hunger Games" (which will have an IMAX 3D version) will boot "SPECTRE" out of IMAX theaters after two weeks. I don't recall how long of an IMAX run "Skyfall" had but the extra $$$ for IMAX does have an impact.

$850m to $999m tops. This will depend very much on how well the Euro does vs. the $ in exchange rate terms at the time of release as well as who they pick for the title song. The faster loss of IMAX higher priced grosses due to Hunger Games will hurt. The more crowded release schedule will also hurt (less chance of the very important repeat showings) as will the sheer number of spy-related flicks this year (a possible overdose issue).

Spy flicks are spy flicks....SPECTRE is a James Bond film which comes with a very valuable pedigree. Bond films tend to be critic proof, however very good reviews can give it that extra push to attract the non-fans.

What makes people think Spectre could surpass Skyfall? There is a limit on how much a movie can earn, and Skyfall already broke a record. I would not expect another until, maybe, 60th anniversary and a new actor.

SPECTRE opened with $6.4 million in the UK on Monday night from 647 locations. So far, SPECTRE is doing more business than Skyfall in many cinemas and made just as much Monday night as Skyfall did in its first full day of play in many more locations.
