Topic: Treating your Car, like a Bond car, what's in your boot/trunk ?

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for car cleaning/waxing
Products, that would keep our own " Bond" transports ( in our minds they're all
Aston's or Lotus )  ajb007/wink
I use  Autoglym car wax and tyre refresher ( I love shiny new tyres)  mainly because
I read long ago that, they were used by Bently and Aston Martin.  This may not be true
These days so, any recommendations for car cleaning / Valeting products.  Then at
Last my old jalopy, will shine like an Aston Martin at least !  ajb007/lol

You won't go far wrong with autoglym. However if you ever come across a product called 'Tuffwax' I'd recommend you give it a try. I bought some a few years ago & it's great. In fact so good that I went back & bought several more tins as I was in a different part of the country at the time. I haven't seen any since though.

If you polish the windscreen on your car with autoglym & such you'll also find that you won't hardly have to use your wipers. Do it well though as otherwise it will cause problems if driving at night.

For a white car (this only applies to white) a dash of bleach in the bucket of water when washing the car will bring the paintwork up a treat.

Never thought of using it on the windscreen.  ajb007/smile  I'll give it a try but probably
Won't need it as in N.Ireland we only get sunshine and fantastically warm
Weather.  ajb007/wink

Then of course there's the waterless wash & wax products. I haven't tried any but they appear good:

I've always used Autoglym. A bit pricier than other brands but I've always been pleased with the results and if it's good enough for Charles' DB6, it's good enough for my (slightly less expensive!) motor ajb007/biggrin

Stag, that waterless stuff looks amazing. I have seen it advertised on one of the
Shopping channels, but you're always worried it might be a gimmick.  ajb007/smile

That's what I thought but apparently they are very good. it also provides a good level of protection from bird lime, road tar etc.

If you have one, you can buy an accessory for a Karcher pressure washer which will clean the underside of your vehicle, it not only cleans but the special detergent includes some sort of wax like compound which will protect the underside too. Great for getting rid of winter salt.

My  car is a nightmare too keep clean, its metallic black sapphire ,ive tried everything, the waterless orange stuff seems to work ok ,

Meguier...meguari......meguires......

sod it, theres a company that sounds like meg-wires, they do a clay bar product thats pretty cool.

i go for the latvian handjob, then give it a good wipe over with showroom shine, which works well. For shows I get it washed before travelling, then a polish up with showroom shine when i arrive. back to black is good on the tyres and carplan do some yummy leather food which gives it a great 'new car' smell.

i've seen some people go through a 4 hour routine (yes you did read that right and no i'm not joking) of washing, claying, waxing, polishing etc etc.

there's loving your car then there's lurrrrving your car.

ajb007/smile  Meguiars. Yes, it's pretty good stuff I hear. I've got a mate who swears by it and uses the clay bar.

Well (nothing to do with waxing as such, unless waxing lyrical counts?) I always carry a loaded revolver in my glove compartment. One just never knows when it might come in handy for a bit of the old "road rage"!  ajb007/biggrin  ajb007/martini

Turtle Wax & Mer are also very good products (Mer takes quite a bit of applying though, one panel at a time, but lasts for ages). I also like 'Back to Black' trim polish for, well, all the black bits. It restores a deep shine to any black trim which has faded.

If anyone is in the market for a modified high performance vehicle, they can do a lot worse than buy an ex police traffic car. Invariably high mileage but exceptionally well maintained, these vehicles feature a few extras which would make Bond proud. Uprated engines & even a double skinned fuel tank (to stop it splitting & spilling petrol in the event of a crash). These vehicles were maintained regardless of expense. Let's say the car was fitted with a brand new set of tyres, you took it out of the garage but as you were driving through the door, a nail punctured the tyre. Another new one would be fitted & the new (but punctured) tyre would be discarded. You can get unmarked vehicles as used by Traffic, again very high performance cars.

You can also buy ex government vehicles from army surplys yards. I saw an XJ Sovereign that was used for VIP protection, bullet proof glass, run flat tyres, think it even had armour plating too. Mind you, at over 2 tons I'm not sure how much mpg you'd get, not exactly economic at the best of times.

Margaret Thatchers armoured coach was up for sale a while ago. it was used by her & other senior government officials after the Brighton bombing. Fully armoured & proofed against bullets & bombs. Not such how long it would take to polish that but it would be a talking point when dropping the kids off at school.

A good tool for polishing a car is an electric buffer, they save a hell of a lot of time & elbow grease.

Well after two days of washing, clay barring, paintwork prep, machine polishing and waxing this is what I ended up with  ajb007/martini
Not bad for a 13 year old car.

I put summer tyres on my car today. Many of the locals think I jumped the gun removing the winter tyres, but I'm feeling lucky!  ajb007/bond
