Things you expected during your first viewing that didn't happen...

In your first viewing of SPECTRE were there things that you thought were going to happen as you watched the movie that either didn't happen or took you by surprise by how they did work out?

For me:
When Q injected Bond I thought it would turn out to be a stupid sci-fi major plot device; I was happy to be wrong.
When Bond left Lucia I expected her to return at some point in the film... alas, her part in it was over.
When Hinx was pulled out of the train I expected him to BE BAHK like a good non-stoppable Terminator no matter that that should have killed (or SERIOUSLY put out of action for months) a real human being. SO happy to be wrong there- it added to the realism of the moment AND the film as a whole.
I expected Madeleine to either turn out to be a double-crosser or get killed. SO SO SO happy to be surprised there!
When Bond had his gun on Blofeld I expected a standard dopey 'reason to shoot him' moment to occur, which thankfully never happened.

All in all, the movie delightfully surprised me at almost every turn!

I was also expecting to see Lucia again, but I was expecting to see her dead like Solange in CR.

I was expecting to see Hinx at the end to slow Bond down from getting out of the SIS Building, like Jaws at the end of TSWLM. But they did all they could do with Hinx. Really anything more would have been repetitive. Jaws had a bit more to him to keep another fight interesting.

I was hopelessly hoping that Waltz would not be Blofeld. I went through all of production completely unspoiled and was hoping Waltz would be the precursor to Blofeld who after being defeated would lead into a parting film shot of a faceless/nameless figure stroking a cat setting up for Bond 25 'Blofeld'. I admit, the title is a bit lame

I expected skiing, but liked the snow scene anyway. It was new and innovative.

Expected the OHMSS theme, though I know in many trailers they have music that isn't played in the film (Goldeneye trailer action song

). I didn't hear any of Majesty's theme, did I miss it?

I got what I expected. I didn't think Lucia or Hinx would show up again and glad they didn't. Would have served the plot well. Although I did expect a ski scene and for a moment when Madeline told Bond that she had to go, I thought for a moment she'd turn out bad.

You didn't miss it. I was right to not expect the OHMSS theme in the film.

Ha ha, well, a combination of so much about the script being released ahead of time and the buzz about the movie from various places left me with few surprises. Pretty much everything I expected to happen did, in fact, happen.

That's about all I can think of for now. Overall, I was happy with the film, though it's not as good as Casino Royale.

See, THIS is why I was almost non-existent on this forum for a few months leading up to SPECTRE's release... I got totally surprised by the whole movie! I watched no trailers, read no Sony leak discussions...

Oh! This is another I just remembered! When Bond handed White the gun, I thought it was a trick because of the palm-reader in his last PPK... when White killed himself with it it was a complete & sudden SHOCK as I realized Bond was playing for keeps with a standard weapon! By chance or by design it was a devastating moment for me. Just another reason why I love this movie. :x

Totally agree with this. I was surprised Bond trusted him with a loaded gun. That really solidified the hate, yet respect and confidence these characters had in each other in that moment. Felt like they both found their "quantum of solace" in their relationship there.

Also, I see you put Spectre at your #3. That's awesome! Must have really resonated with you instantly. It's gonna take a few more viewings for me to know where it is in my list, but it feels like it's in my top 10. Though, the more I replay the movie in my head and think about it how well they handled the sensitive material, and stayed away from just doing the obvious, and made a unique take on the whole Blofeld/Tracy saga (and the emotional memory impact of enjoyment I keep feeling), it might creep into my top 5 or top 3. Nothing beats CR and TLD For me though, not yet at least. -{

OH yeah. It was a pitch perfect combination of Dan's spectacular performance & Mendes' reach back into the Connery years (with some new stuff thrown into the mix).

When Blofeld tortured Bond for the second time on the dentist's chair, I expected it to have... any effect whatsoever.

When Bond shot the helicopter, I did not expect it to go down. I was thinking "Blofeld has to get away", but did not expect it to be by an act of mercy from Bond after he caught him.

I also thought Bond would kill Mr White himself. Though I like this outcome better.

Besides pain? He was torturing them both with no precise end to it. Like a kid on a roller-coaster he was enjoying the ride.... Bond endured & rebounded from the pain as in the novels. So very Fleming. :007)

Have only seen the movie once, but to my knowledge Blofeld tells Bond that he'd lose his memory, eyesight, or both. I thought, well, he's gonna break free before the second drilling, but no. In the needle goes, and nothing happens. I just read on another thread that Bond might have moved his neck far away enough for Blofeld to miss with the needle. Could be. But no one in the 10 people group in the cinema with me got that. It doesn't ruin the movie of course, but it was a little unexpected.

The Hinx one I am going to come back to after my second viewing of the film later this week.

One thing that did stand out was I had expected there to be something special or memorable about the DB10. But the flamethrowers were a different take on TSWLM Boatus cement canon, and the climax of the scene simply parroted the Glastron Boat stunt from Moonraker. I did actually think as Bond walked away, "That's it? Have I been built to expect too much here?"

Beyond that, it pretty much played by the numbers for me and I enjoyed it. Really relieved I managed to avoid any and all spoilers though.

I expected SPECTRE to be explained, which it isn't. some people in the audience might have wondered why the film is called SPECTRE.

I expected there to be more mentions of SPECTRE. I never liked the title of the film (it's too easy and just boring), and after seeing it I liked the title even less. A much better title of the film would have been "The Dead Are Alive". Then it wouldn't have had the title card ruining the opening of the film.

Yes - when Bknd has a car filled with gadgets, I expect a) the gadgets to actually dos something to the other car, b) Bond being chased by more than one car and c) some impressive and iconic moments! If you going to put a gadget laiden car in a Bind film, you might as well go all out!

I was expecting Tracy errr, Madeline to get shot in the last 5 minutes of the movie. Either on the bridge or in the car.
