& nor should it. I am pleased that you enjoy them. As for me I really hoped Spectre would have been the film but I guess I was hoping for too much. As I pointed out in other posts, nothing to do with DC or other cast members but everything to do with poor & unoriginal writing.

Re: I just saw Spectre for the first time!

Midnights past my bedtime! It surprises me how personal some of these posts can get. Surely as Bond fans from wildly varying demographics it's expected opinions will be equally varied? Is that not the point of open discussion?  I'm secure in my own opinions and value those of others. Stag has posted nothing offensive or inflammatory. And as always shaken points out he likes brandy and Welshboy likes vodka I'd like to add I like jack Daniels...... You see varied. ajb007/biggrin

It was either that.....or the priesthood

Re: I just saw Spectre for the first time!

I've a been a JB fan since I was a young child. Had many good times watching Bond movies with my dad.
But it seems its all gone downhill since DAD and since DC has played the character.

CR was good, and SF was OK, but where they really Bond films.....or just films?

I saw SP only the other day (after it came out on BluRay here in AUS).....and boy was I disappointed.
Having purposely avoided watching it in the cinema when it first came out, I thought I'd get some public feedback first so I can adjust my expectations. I actively checked this site and generally got positive reviews which I now know where more biased opinions than anything else.

The franchise had it all in front of them and they completely missed the mark with this one. *Apologies for being blunt*
The cast, the title song, the plot, the connection with previous links (CR, QOS, SF), was just a mistake after mistake. Seemed all rushed to me..

Lets hope they get a new Bond actor, some script writers and take their time with the next one (2 years isn't a mandatory timeframe you know), coz they are starting to lose even the avid Bond fans.....

Re: I just saw Spectre for the first time!

Welcome SMERSH,
my take is that after Tim, they decided to go full-on cinematic (as opposed to Fleming) Bond. So as long as they're fun, I'm in.
And SPECTRE was fun IMHO.

Hello SMERSH & welcome to the forum.

I agree with your comments however I feel the blame lays squarely with the writing (then the direction BB has chosen to steer the franchise) While DC is not my favourite Bond IMHO he could have been so much better had he some solid material to work with. I was hoping that SP would have rectified the earlier difficulties but sadly I was wrong.

Re: I just saw Spectre for the first time!

Oh & yes IMO the title song was among the worst of the franchise!

But there is still a massive audience for DC's Bond films...so I'm not sure what you say is correct...

Hi and welcome aboard. In think that the rebooted films have been phenomenally successful from a financial perspective and have garnered industry plaudits and critical approval. DC has won over a number of fans both from within the existent fan base and won numerous new ones. That's not to say that it's perfect, or that DC is my favourite Bond, but there is no denying the impact that he has had. I was initially deeply disappointed when Daniel was cast, but like others in had to eat my words when he pulled it off. For me his Bond is still too much of a one note affair, and the films oscillate between ones I enjoy to one's I find less successful. I often have my gripes with EON, but Babs did see the potential in Daniel when others including the studio (if the rumour mill is to be believed ) and the Director were at best unconvinced.

If that's the case (I haven't seen the movie yet, I'll buy it on DVD eventually) but based on the reviews I don' think I have much to look forward too.

Quite simply for mine, Writing's On The Wall ranks as lowly as Another Way To Die.

That doesn't say much for the rest of the film! Awful song.

Re: I just saw Spectre for the first time!

I didn't like the song to start with, but in the trailer (and movie) it kind of works.

Re: I just saw Spectre for the first time!

I haven't posted much but this discussion has motivated me  ajb007/smile  I have to say I've only watched Spectre once at the Cinema but I enjoyed it more than Skyfall (which I felt dragged towards the end). Casino Royale is definitely my favourite Craig Bond..because its just a great film if you like Bond or not. Having grown up Roger Moore Bonds though I found a lot to love in Spectre (which for many of you I know would mean a lot to hate  ajb007/lol ). Spectre for me was a TSWLM type greatest hits package, and call me sad but I love those sort of Bond films.

For the record I've read a few of the books and I really think Casino Royale is as close as your going to get these days..decent plotting with a few big action sequences thrown in. The only chance you have of seeing the literary Bond properly represented is if the BBC or such like were allowed to pick up the character and do a dramatization..but sadly the Cinematic Bond is an out of control behemoth so that ain't going to happen.

Re: I just saw Spectre for the first time!

Yeah, decent plotting and a few big action sequences thrown in connected by a poorly written protagonist and an annoying lead.
