Re: The title - ideas and rumours

I've always liked the "motto" of Casino Royale, "A Whisper of Love, A Whisper of Hate;" and although it has the much-overused word "death," I think one of the chapter titles of Diamonds Are Forever has a nice ring to it: "Death Is So Permanent."

Blood on White Snow?

Sounds like there would need to be seven, ahem, persons of restricted growth as henchmen... ajb007/biggrin

Re: The title - ideas and rumours

Titles that reference other Bond things would be nice.

I think 'All the time in the world' would be good, for a movie focused around the Bond girl.

Hi ho there, what do you mean?  ajb007/confused

But If Blood on Snow isn't a copyrighted title yet, would it be a good Bond title?

Re: The title - ideas and rumours

While many of the suggestions would make good book/chapter titles I personally don't feel any are suitable for a film title.

Re: The title - ideas and rumours

Another title I like: Serpentine
I Imagine it to be the name of the villan.

Re: The title - ideas and rumours

It's kind of astounding to me that The Property of a Lady hasn't been used yet. It's definitely my number one pick for unused Fleming titles. Risico is cool, but I think there are better potential titles from the pages of Fleming, like Shatterhand, The Garden of Death or The Undertakers Wind.

Another title I would like is Bedlam. If the next film were a continuation of the Craig era timeline, you could have MI6 initiate Operation Bedlam (originating from OHMSS) to hunt down the remaining SPECTRE affiliates

Risico is a great title. I think it, along with POAL and THR, should be used at some point.

On the other hand that title would make sense if they would make a movie about Bond's youth - a deep origin story starting from the death of his parents. I actually would be pleased with a title like that.

Not to mention, "Sherlock Holmes", "Star Trek", "Robin Hood",  "The Muppets", etc etc .
This seems to be a trend in lazy, unoriginal titles- yet it also seems to be accepted. I'm rather baffled that on forums and boards I've seen very little mention of the new Bourne title. Doesn't seem to bother too many people that it's just called  "Jason Bourne" when the other films had snappier titles. If Eon ever did get so lazy to call a future film "James Bond", I'd  be pi$$ed, yet I feel I'd probably be one of the few who would find that as a title completely unacceptable. It would be different if this were the first film of a series and the audience never heard of the character -like "Dirty Harry", or a remake of a classic like "Dracula", but Bond? No. 007 deserves the respect of each new film being given an individual and Bondian title.

I think the trend will allow "007 in New York" to be used, though that may be too creative.  ajb007/biggrin

Re: The title - ideas and rumours

The leftover titles aren't really usable- Quantum of Solace was a stretch and I believe that it put the general public off (although I quite like it). You don't want a title where audiences are wondering what on earth it means unless it is an incredibly intriguing title. Risico doesn't work for me- it sounds more like somebody's name. The Property of A Lady sounds a bit too much like a period drama (I'm thinking The Portrait of A Lady here). 007 in New York sounds cheesy.

Chapter names are a good call I think or just any title that has Bondian motifs in.

Re: The title - ideas and rumours

I like the short story titles for the most part.  I remember in Bondage magazine back around the time of Daylights, Michael Wilson mentioned they weren't planning on using The Hildebrand Rarity as a title, and that they'd probably start making up their own. Actually, now after QoS I could certainly see The Hildebrand Rarity as a cool film title. Fleming had a range of variety in his titles. The problem for me with the post Cubby films is that too many sound similar to each other. You could randomly pick  2 consecutive film titles from 1962-1987 and they'd be completely different. LALD and TMWTGG, OHMSS and DAF, etc Whereas TND and DAD are extremely similar and only a few years apart.

They won't be used because the names have very little marketing potential.

I disagree - I think they have massive marketing potential. There is enough intrigue about a a title like The Hildebrand Rarity or Risico to whet the appetite and Property of a Lady is very straightforward. And there is enough marketing around any Bond film for audiences to know what to ask for at the box office - much like QoS or Skyfall as titles.

Re: The title - ideas and rumours

I saw a good article once about proposed 007 book titles which were rejected by Fleming or his publisher. I can't find said article but guess some of the titles could possibly be considered?

Re: The title - ideas and rumours

maybe they can use some of the alternate American titles?
like You Asked For It, Too Hot to Handle, or Motel Nymph
presumably those were all considered more marketable than the better known British titles
