Re: Poll: Who would you like to be the next James Bond in Bond 26?

Would the Mission Impossible series survive minus Tom Cruise? Many thought that the Bond series wouldn't last minus Sean Connery.

Oh absolutely, as long as they keep up the doing-it-for-real thing. Cruise is my least favorite part of these films.

I agree. I don't think most people care so much about Cruise. If you can find a charismatic actor who is also physical (not easy to find these days), everyone will forget about Cruise.

Fair enough, thanks guys.

Eh, they introduced Renner in the 4th one to float the idea of handing the franchise off and that was scrapped.

Sure you’re not thinking of the 4th Bourne film? Cruise seems pretty committed to the series...

No, it was discussed for a minute. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/ … -tom-49006

That movie has a weird 2nd lead in Renner. He's got a whole narrative arc and everything. It just didn't come to pass.

Re: Poll: Who would you like to be the next James Bond in Bond 26?

Strange. Cruise is 56, but Renner is 47. That's only an age difference of nine years.

Re: Poll: Who would you like to be the next James Bond in Bond 26?

I think to consider any actor over the age of 30 is very wishful thinking. At the way James Bond films are made an actor now aged 30 would be perhaps 40 or even older when he became James Bond!

The Bond films shouldn’t have survived post-Connery. It only happened because Roger Moore decided to play a different character with the same name and similar tastes. People accepted it, and the precedent was set.

With MI, I’m not sure. The only thing that separates it from a totally generic action franchise is Cruise and his antics. I think it’s more dependent on him than Bond is on an actor precisely because the Hunt character has no identity beyond Cruise.

Re: Poll: Who would you like to be the next James Bond in Bond 26?

I agree that Ethan Hunt is a "superhero" version of Tom Cruise and no other actor should continue playing Hunt when Cruise leaves.
What they should do is to make another agent the main character of the series. My suggestion is Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson). There are problems with this, such as neither the character nor the actress is American and if Ferguson is willing and able to risk life and limb for the series. I don't think we should expect the next lead actor/actress to be as good and willing as Cruise at stunt work, but MI won't survive if most of the stunt work is done digitally or with stunt people.

Re: Poll: Who would you like to be the next James Bond in Bond 26?

I enjoy the MI films but I'm really not invested to the point that I would lose any sleep if they never do another...with or without Cruise.
I grew up with the Bond films and am old enough to have seen the original Connery films either upon their initial runs in theaters or in the case of DN and FRWL in their re-release as a double feature. I experienced "Bond Mania"....saw the films, collected the trading cards (oh how I wish I still had them) and the toys. I'm an old crank now who sees the world through eyes that have become cynical and a bit jaded over the years but I will get excitedly filled with anticipation and feel a like a kid again when I walk into the theater in Feb 2020 to see Bond 25.

What about Richard Madden (Robb Stark, Game of Thrones)? Haven’t seen his name thrown out yet. He’s the right age, def seems to have some good acting chops.

Re: Poll: Who would you like to be the next James Bond in Bond 26?

I quite like the look of Max Irons, I think he would suit the role, outside of a British actor I really do like Alexander Skarsgard, lived and studied in the UK for a long time and I've enjoyed his work on many projects.

It was either that.....or the priesthood

Re: Poll: Who would you like to be the next James Bond in Bond 26?

I think Max Irons has potential, but today he looks too young to play James Bond
Richard Madden is 5ft 9 ¼ (175.9 cm) and that's simply not tall enough to play Bond.

How about Skarsgard? Let's not forget that the next bonds first film is not likely for at least 4 years, which may rule out many of the so called favourites.
Max Irons is 33 at the moment, he'd be pushing 40 for Bond 26

Re: Poll: Who would you like to be the next James Bond in Bond 26?

No Swede should play Bond. His father played the Swedish version of 007, that should be enough for Alexander.

My statement about Skarsgård does not come from a hatred of Swedes (that comes into play in othere situations  ajb007/lol  ), I simply think think Bond should be played by somene British or possibly from Australia or NZ.

I'm of course aware that Daniel Craig i barely taller than Madden. But In my opinion Craig is a good Bond in spite of his relatively short height, it's  a negative and not a possitive. He had other strengths that weighed up for it. I'm not sure the same can be said of Madden. Tall potential Bond girls was never a problem before Craig, simply because the Bond actors were 6' 2''.

People accepted Craig so the height issue is not important. You can notice Craig's short-ish stature in the Venice scenes from CR and the tube scenes in Skyfall. If Richard Madden did a decent screentest and Barbara Broccoli liked him he'd have a chance. I don't see his height being a big issue for Babs although if he did win the role I'm sure

I think Daniel had so many exceptional qualities that it did not strike people as a big deal (no pun intended). I bristle a bit at heightism, as I do not think it matters a jot in the real world, and has no bearing whatsoever on masculinity. Bond however is a fictional character and something of an archetype,  with certain characteristics that are a large part of his character. As a consequence , he does literally stand out.
He never quite blends in. When in Britain he appears somewhat 'foreign'. In the West tall now is way over 6ft. I'm just under 6ft 4 and when in Australia or the US amongst young people in dwarfed (I always like it as height has been a bit of a curse)

I have no desire to reopen 'height war's and only posted as I have no wish to cause offence by heightism. Daniel has always been miscast in my view to some extent and height is a part of that. He is however so good, with so many great qualities that he almost makes me forget. I'd like him to broaden out and exhibit a bit more sophistication which I know he can do but keep the tough edge. Bond exists in the intersection of these contrasting facets. That's what makes him special and is more important than his height.

Re: Poll: Who would you like to be the next James Bond in Bond 26?

Craig's been Bond for over a decade now and his height, or lack thereof, is apparently still an issue to many for some silly reason. Bond has almost always personified the "tall, dark and handsome" archetype though so I suppose I can understand those who yearn for an actor who more fits that mold. That said EON will likely go that route next instead of chasing another Craig clone anyway.
