I think he's one of my top three favourite Bond candidates now, together with Aidan Turner and Sam Heaughan.

Ed Skrein has been mentioned several times before - most notably by yourself...I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, he’s a Liverpool fan so he works for me ajb007/biggrin

At 49, he is too old now, but I think  Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister from "Game of Thrones")has the looks, swagger and charm that could have made him an excellent choice.

Henry Cavill for me

Re: Poll: Who would you like to be the next James Bond in Bond 26?

In the end... I just wish they'd wrap up the DC era neatly with 25..  and do a full reboot with 26 and reset the narrative to the actual Cold War and do a series of films set in the 60's.   Or can you imagine the potential of them possibly redoing Dr. No with today's film abilities..    now THAT would be a hell of a reboot that would be outstanding...    maybe its just me..  put man that would be incredible.

Re: Poll: Who would you like to be the next James Bond in Bond 26?

What makes you all think there will be a 26 ?

If there is I just wish all the DC era crap is washed away, we get stand alone movies with bigger than life baddies that are not family members.

Oh and a White male James Bond.

We think there will be a 26 because there is still money to be made in Bond film. Even if EON sells the series after 25, someone will make a 26. In this era, a successful film series never ends.

Here's one who I think should be included in the poll. Tom Forbes. He plays Prince Louie in Knightfall and he plays him with quite a bit of edge, strength, and screen presence. I have been very impressed by his performance.

Re: Poll: Who would you like to be the next James Bond in Bond 26?

I wanted to throw in another dynamic here about whom ever gets the role going forward after Bond 25 assuming DC hangs up his License to Kill. And that is what ever actor does get the role, they better be prepared to go the distance. At least 5 or 6 movies down the line. Remember after Skyfall DC said he would not do another. How much convincing did it take to get him back for this one? I think regardless of who we would like to see get the slot, ultimately that individual will have to make a long term commitment with out griping about it and threading to leave after 3 movies. Just sayin...
Any one else have a view on this?

I have cast a wide net, but I left out the most ridiculous candidates mentioned in the press (Tom Cruise, Gillian Anderson). If your candidate isn't listed, just post the name of the actor. This poll assumes Daniel Craig won't be in the next Bond movie, even though this is uncertain now. Click the link and chose one candidate:

He would be great. As a different agent with his own adventures. Say, 009. But he is NOT James Bond. Bond is one character they need to stay with a certain classic look. And no, I'm NOT being racist. Just don't go there, please.

Can I throw in Lashana Lynch to be the next Bond?  ajb007/biggrin

Ok before I get lynched  ajb007/bond for that suggestion, I'm also coming round to Henry Cavill now, who's still in his mid thirties and whose acting abilities seem to be improving.

This Lynch story is an attempt at getting cute by the writers. From what I gather, I don't think she is 007 for long. She certainly is not James Bond. She is a character named Nomi (?) who is given the designation 007 after Bond retires. then James Bond comes out of retirement due to some story requirement and I bet eventually Nomi dies and Bond gets his 007 designation back. THAT is what I predict that the movie plot is conceived.

As for Cavill, he is too associated with Superman now. Except for Roger Moore's case, the producers have avoided casting someone with another strong movie identity. So I think Cavill is out.

Re: Poll: Who would you like to be the next James Bond in Bond 26?

I agree since Cavill has played Superman for awhile in addition the Mission Impossible role his time passed to be 007.....he fit's the part but doubt the producers would cast him....there is still talks he is going to do another Superman movie

Moore had a strong television identity, which back then was quite different from a film identity. Brosnan was the same. And at that time they were only concerned that they were no longer actively in that identity.

The main reason why Cavill will never be cast as Bond is that he is already a high-paid movie star. EON has always wanted someone who will start their run with a low salary, and Cavill's unlikely to be willing to take a pay cut to be Bond. .

If he signed a multi-picture deal (on which EON would almost certainly insist) and is aware of the incremental jumps in earnings which both Craig and Brosnan enjoyed, and had faith in his abilities, I'd think it unlikely that an initially low first movie salary would deter him.

Cavill has fans on both sides of the Atlantic, as had Moore and Brosnan; and if he was judged as the most suitable candidate from screen tests, I doubt that his identification with Superman would harm his chances too much.

Not sure HCavill would be interested. He already has an established acting career. While playing Bond does not require a great range of acting ability, it is a physically demanding role. We keep hearing about on the set injuries by the actor who is playing 007. Who wants that but someone who wants to take off in fame and the subsequent money?

If I were EON I would seriously look at the one whom I suggested a few posts earlier. Tom Forbes.

I think Cavill remains very interested and would probably accept a pay cut for the chance. I don’t think they’ll offer it to him - he’s too obvious - but if they did I would be fine with it. He is one of several actors who could potentially be a good Bond. As we all know, much of it is down to the screenplays.

Re: Poll: Who would you like to be the next James Bond in Bond 26?

I think you could argue the opposite about Cavill and his fee. He's gone back to tv with this Witcher show. I know tv is far more popular because of streaming (Netflix, Amazon Prime etc) but my guess is Cavill would be more pricey had he stuck with medium to big budget films.

If The Witcher gains a big following it could run for many years and Cavill could be locked into the show, ruling him out of Bond 26. Game of Thrones ran for eight seasons and eight years.

Another Bond wannabe  - Tom Hiddleston -  is signed up to a Loki Marvel tv show:

In among the many, many announcements that Marvel Studios made during their Comic-Con panel on Saturday (July 20), it was confirmed that Loki would premiere in Spring 2021,

... which could rule him out of Bond 26 (assuming Bond 26 is released around 2023 or earlier). Any potential Bond actor has to be careful not commit to any long running tv shows around the time the next film goes in production. How they achieve that is near impossible as an actor can't predict their careers two or three years in the future. And who knows if Eon can convince Craig to do another Bond film? If Babs and MG think Craig is fit enough for sixth, they could fast track it for 2023. Craig would be 54. My gut feeling is Craig will call it a day after Bond 25 but you never know for sure.

That's good, he's much better as Loki than he has ever been in a pseudo-Bond type role (eg the Night Manager).
That "smug" factor is more appropriate to a Norse Trickster God than a British secret agent.

I've just seen the Agatha Christie mystery "Crooked House". The story takes place in the 1950's and Max Irons plays a former spy who wears suits and in a Cairo scene even a white tux. Of course it makes me think of him in the role of 007.

What do I think? He's a good candidate, but I'm not sure he has that little bit extra. If he had the dark, threathening voice of his father (Jeremy irons) it would help. Or a more distinctive and more though look, perhaps. More than anything he still looks a bit boyish even at 33.

He looks the part here, but I haven't seen him in anything. He does look a bit young now, but he will look old enough by the time the next Bond is cast. He might be too old if Daniel Craig sticks around for a 6th!

I thought he was in "Danny, the champion of the world" with his father when he was a kid, but that was his brother.
I've only seen him as Howard Carter is Tutankhamon, but perhaps you've seen him in two spy TV series: "The little drummer girl" and a remake of "Three days of the Condor".
