I’m a huge proponent of Turner. But I’d be ok with Cavill. Just about everyone else that gets mentioned fails to excite me at this point.

Since Bond 26 probably won't come out until 2025, the next James Bond is some 28-32 year-old playing a supporting role on a TV series.

Probably correct. The bigger question is, does EON make Bond 26, or does the franchise get sold? I think they’re going to cash out while they still can. If that happens, all bets are off. You could see a Classic Bond, an American, a person of color, or someone in the Craig mold. They won’t cast a woman, because that’s just idiotic and would kill the franchise. But I’d say any of the others - or some combination thereof - is very much in play.

I could see an American actor playing Bond....if they can pull off a flawless accent. That being said, I think there are so many good young British/Irish/Australian actors around these days (hell, they are all playing Americans on TV ajb007/lol ) that it just won't happen.
Bond of color?.....could happen. EON selling?  Never say never as it would bring them a boatload of $$$$ but then again they make a nice chunk of change from actually making the films and it is the family business.

I certainly don’t envy the Broccolis in trying to find a new one. I guess this’ll be only the fourth time they’ve done it (MGW at least), which sounds like quite a few times but over the course of 35 years that’s not very often at all! ajb007/smile And on two of those occasions they cast the same guy, so it’s evidently not like there are loads to choose from!
As much as he’s got to be tough, that’s really just another criterion which has been added onto the pile: he’s got to be a brilliant movie star first and foremost, as well as being extremely handsome and charismatic, and then on top of that ideally athletic too. Of the current crop of British actors who aren’t Craig I find it hard to think of many: Idris Elba probably genuinely is the one that fits the bill best and hits all of those requirements, but he’s just too old to sign up for the next ten years or so.

It must’ve been so good when Eon saw Layer Cake and there was their next Bond just stood there, fully formed. They must be desperately hoping for the next Layer Cake to pop up soon! ajb007/smile

I agree picking the right actor for the role is difficult, but I have a more optimistic view. I can think of about five guys who has real potential, but of cource there are no guarantees. There is also a good chance they'll find someone we never thought of like they did with Daniel Craig. By the way, it wasn't Layer Cake that put Craig on Barabara Broccoli's radar, een though it may have been that movie that halped convinced others who had to be convinced. I read in an interiew it was "Elizabeth" way back in 1998 that gave Barbara Broccoli the idea that Craig could be Bond.

Interesting; I can’t remember him in that (that was a very long time ago!) - I’ll have to check it out again. I’m sure Layer Cake sealed the deal for a lot of them though! ajb007/smile
I can’t think of many who have the star power to be honest, but I guess they’re better at spotting them than I am!

I'm personally still fond of Hiddleston - I remember people saying Craig was too slight for the part(!), so a person's physique is hardly set in stone. But I've been a Cavill supporter since pre-Craig, so obviously I'd be fine with that.

It’s not his physique so much as how convincing he is, and I don’t find him convincing at all. He’s a bit ridiculously miscast in King Kong.

Yes, I like Turner but I guess he’s a bit untested as a movie lead- has he got the presence to head a film? I don’t know. Cavill is kind of okay but I find him a little wooden and I think we definitely got the right person when he tested for CR (although I remember folks who saw the auditions at the time saying he was good and it was between him and Craig).

I definitely get the "wooden" thing with Cavill. Strangely, I think the "wooden" thing actually worked for Superman. I wonder if Cavill comes off as "wooden" when he's speaking in his normal accent rather than doing an American accent?

Turner is a great shout - you've reminded me of the film The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot. Have you seen it? Turner plays a younger version of Sam Elliot (legend) as a special ops guy in the film and without wanting to go into too much detail, though the title is essentially its own spoiler, he goes undercover at one point and is pretty damn convincing.

That performance in the context of Bond is pretty exciting.

Yes but my martini's still dry.

Yeah that’s a good point; being a little stiff does work for Superman. I’d still say charisma-wise he’s not really up to Reeve though.
It is a bit strange how often he has to go American- I struggle to think of anything he hasn’t done as American! ajb007/smile

Funny how Superman's biological parents (and everyone else on Krypton) always have British accents......
I'm pretty sure Cavill speaks in his normal accent for The Witcher and in his last film, Night Hunter.

Cavill played an Englishman in Tudors too.

Re: Poll: Who would you like to be the next James Bond in Bond 26?

The wife and I have been binging OUTLANDER on Netflix.  We're 1.5 seasons into it and really enjoying it.  I have to say, the male lead on the show, Sam Heughan, would make for a pretty solid actor to take on James Bond.  the only issue I can see with him is that he's apparently 39 and perhaps a tad too old for the role if you're wanting to get 5 films out of him.  That said, he's charming and has fantastic charisma and acting ability.  He also possesses a formidable build and overall physical presence, something that I think is crucial for the role.  Most importantly, my wife is in love with the guy.  Then again, she's also in love with Tom Ellis (from LUCIFER) and I think he'd make for an interesting Bond.

Check out Heughan in THE SPY WHO DUMPED ME (in a fight scene staged by Craig's Bond team, no less):

Re: Poll: Who would you like to be the next James Bond in Bond 26?

I absolutely agree with you, Gymkata. Heughan has revealed he was tested for the role of Bond before CR, when he was 26. I'm impressed he was on EONs radar back then since he's only done one short film and a couple of roles on TV and the theatre at the time.
Three of the actors were in their fourties when their first Bond film was released. Bond26 is most likely to be released around 2024 (give or take a year or two), so he'll be in the early to mid 40's when it happens. He looks young for his age so it should work, but it's pushing it.

Not a bad fight scene, actually.  Does a pretty solid job of selling me even further on Sam for the job, too.

The next Bond will not be a “white” male.

Re: Poll: Who would you like to be the next James Bond in Bond 26?

I think the only thing I'm sure of is it will be a white male, all the "sky is falling" shook old white fans be damned, and that to avoid too-close comparisons to Craig, he won't be blond again.

Nicholas Hoult might age into the role by 2022.

I agree he could be good  but  think unfortunately too old. I also feel that 2024 is optimistic

Re: Poll: Who would you like to be the next James Bond in Bond 26?

If the next Bond actor is representing standalone films again, do you think it still works reference Bonds past? Like death of his wife Tracy, that sort of thing. Or will it be weird because we just had the rebooted Craig era?

925

Re: Poll: Who would you like to be the next James Bond in Bond 26?

I don't think they can reference the first timeline (Connery-Brosnan), but if they do a soft reboot they can reference events in the second (Craig) timeline. In other words: Vesper happened, but not Tracy.
