Topic: What beer for Bond?

So what does everyone think Bond would choose for beer if he had to go slumming with the Blue Collar class one night at the local pub?

In Deutschland? The UK? Other side of the Pond?

I don't know if a choice of beer has ever been mentioned in the novels as I don't read fiction. I don't know if I can remember Bond having a beer in any of the movies. ??

What say ye?

I would think if in the right geographical location in Germany he would choose a Bitburger, or a Paulaner of one flavor or another. Possibly a Belgian Lambic? I don't care for the style myself. Maybe a Belgian ale?

Product placement I know but I go for Heineken. He did have a red stripe Beer in Jamaica

My apologies, I missed it.

Re: What beer for Bond?

Bond would go for a whisky. There's nothing wrong with ordering that at a local pub.

Yes, whisky. Fleming's Bond famously drank more bourbon than anything else. In the films Bond orders it at the bars he visits in Live and Let Die. Bond has drank beer, but he's not a beer guy.

Re: What beer for Bond?

Heineken, Miller high life, Lowenbrau, and red stripe are all beers that Bond has drank before.

We all know it would be Bundaberg Ginger Beer  ajb007/martini

Re: What beer for Bond?

Because of the Jamaican connection, Red Stripe is a beer that I tend to associate with Bond. Miller High Life as well, as I believe this was a choice of Ian Fleming.

On the commercial side, obviously Heineken is in the limelight at the moment due to product placement. If I remember correctly, there was also a Carlsberg tie-in with The Living Daylights.

If 007 was here in The Philippines he would be drinking San Miguel beer which is probably this country's most well known brand name globally.

Yeah, well, sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand.

I drank San Miguel in Spain as well  ajb007/smile  I would like him to have a pint of Guinness somewhere. Otherwise, I'm also a fan of Red Stripe  ajb007/embarrassed  ...wouldn't be at all surprised to see him having a Stella Artois, or some very specific 'craft' beer.

Re: What beer for Bond?

In the novel Carte Blanche, when Bond was in South Africa he drank a Gilroy ale which is from a local craft brewery. Shockingly, I still haven't taken the opportunity to sample it. This thread has reminded me that I really need to give it a try. There is a liquor store very near to where I live that has an extraordinary selection of craft beers. I'm sure they must have some Gilroy brews in stock.

Re: What beer for Bond?

Being British it would either be Explorer, Gunhill or Wonky Donkey. Or due to his Scottish Roots Shipshaggers, Twisted Thistle or St Andrew Ale. Of course if he wanted to push it at bit then Leaping Legends, Dragon Slayer or Lions Roar. With his Navy connection there is always Admiral Byng, Trafalgar Bitter or Rum Finish. Of course being slightly confrontational there he could go for Hammerhead Ale, Shut thi Gob or Dark Lord. Lastly there are the more traditional English Beers like Budweiser, Carlsberg and Becks!

Re: What beer for Bond?

Red stripe,  or birra Moretti,  I think he would drink a local beer to where he was,  but I just don't see him as a bitter drinker.

It was either that.....or the priesthood

Re: What beer for Bond?

When we was in Fethiye in Turkey (Skyfall) we drank Efes lager ,its a Turkish brew and the only lager they seem to have ,im sure Bond would have drunk that , by the way its not that good ,but when the temp hits 40 ,its the best .

By the way, did I tell you,  I was       "Mad"?

Bitburger is done when the good beermakers are cleaning their barrels and catch up the cleaning solvent

That's what we say about Budweiser. I find Bitburger to be an excellent Pils. Helps if you like beer.

Yes. And what do such manly men such as yourself drink when the occasion arises?

23

Re: What beer for Bond?

Well, I've told you what Bitburger is considered to be here. This is not about being manly or not.

I like Flensburger as an example. And Erdinger.

San Mig (as we shorten it to here) is available in most countries - lots of people actually think it originated in Spain but it was in 1890 that it was first brewed in The Philippines and not introduced to Spain until after WW2. Like many beers it is now brewed in many countries under licence. Cheers to you Loeffs you certainly know a good beer  ajb007/cheers
