Topic: Ultimate members' rankings - Spectre to 2017

Here's something different. Thought I'd analyse all of the rankings from members from the ULTIMATE ranking thread (http://www.ajb007.co.uk/topic/22305/the … -your-120/) from the release of Spectre until the last ranking on the 10th of February 2017.

This way we can see which film is the indisputable #1 film for November 2015 to February 2017 rankings. Of course, this only applies to those who rank! In total there are 47 rankings collected from 32 members.

https://image.ibb.co/eQWEyG/Screen_Shot_2017_11_13_at_14_34_37.png

47 rankings were collected

The film with the best average ranking is FRWL. FRWL's most often ranking was 4.

The film with the worst average ranking is DAD. DAD's most often ranking was 24.

What's interesting is that every single Bond film featured in the top 10 at least once. Apart from DAD, every film featured in the top five at least once.

The most consistently highest ranked film was CR.

The most consistently lowest ranked films were QoS, DAF and DAD all consistently receiving a 24.

The only film that didn't feature outside the top twenty was TSWLM.

Depsite being the 3rd ranked film overall, Goldfinger was never selected as anyone's #1 film.

The Bonds

Remembering the range is 7.97 to 20.73

Lazenby - combined average 8.10 - best film OHMSS
Dalton - 9.79 - TLD
Craig - 12.08 - CR
Connery - 12.36 - FRWL
Moore - 13.18 - TSWLM
Brosnan - 15.12 - GE

George Lazenby has clearly benefited from having a single popular film, but Dalton rocks in with his two films being the 2nd highest averagely ranked. The lowest ranked films feature Brosnan.

My rules for these rankings

Only unique rankings from the same member were counted in the entire period. For example if their favourite film was GF through 3 rank postings only their 1st ranking for GF would count - if they changed their #2 ranked film in each of their subsequent rankings, these changes would be included.

NSNA, CR67 was not included as very few members had ranked them. If they did rank them, the films below these moved up one place - these films tended to be in the bottom four.

Personal observations

Spectre started well, but very quickly dropped off - especially halfway through the 2016. I wasn't surprised that OHMSS, GF appeared near the top - but FRWL was an unexpected winner. I was really surprised to see how well TLD performed - when I believed that LTK might out perform it.

As a Roger fan I was very happy to see two of his films appear within the top 10 rankings. I started doing this because I wondered if TSWLM had a consistently high-rank amongst fans. I was proven wrong - although found that the film had the best average lowest rank.

Connery really didn't have a good run following GF.
Moore - despite the dislike for him - has a pretty good spread of films across the board. MR had a decent most often rank of 11. The only thing going against him is that he didn't have a top-5 stand-out film like Connery.
QoS' poor positioning was a bit of a shock - quite crazy considering how well his three other films sit with fans.

I'll do this again at the end of the year to collate the 2017 rankings. So get ranking so I've got plenty of data to work with!! I did do a raw ranking (duplicates un-removed) of 2015 pre-Spectre and OHMSS was the #1 film.

Re: Ultimate members' rankings - Spectre to 2017

Next up, how do the rankings compare to IMDB rankings?

https://image.ibb.co/j4hyQw/Screen_Shot_2017_11_13_at_14_37_32.png

Unfortunately there were a lot of tied results here - because IMDB won't display anything more than one decimal point.

Casino Royale took out the top film, followed by Goldfinger and Skyfall tied - then in #4 is FRWL - the top ranked film on AJB.

Interestingly for the top 10 IMDB ranked films were three non-top-10 AJB ranked films in DN, Thunderball and YOLT. The #2 ranked film for AJB was OHMSS however this was #11 - proving the nature of the films favouritism amongst fans. This was similar to LTK also being ranked 17th equal but #9 on the forum.

My observation, which is probably stating the obvious, is that the rankings clearly have the general consensus effect. Films like TLD fall to 15th equal - while films like TB/YOLT (which to a few of us are languid entries) perform well.

Re: Ultimate members' rankings - Spectre to 2017

Good list!

First thing that struck me was how much Thunderball's reputation has declined over the years.

Moonraker putting up a good fight, not far behind TB, LALD and YOLT.

Although there seems to have been an anti-Goldfinger backlash of late, the list shows that it's still highly rated overall.

DAF's poor performance....I knew it wasn't widely liked but not to that degree.

Thanks! There certainly are some fascinating numbers in there and you're right about MR - which is derided often - but had a common rank of 11. You could argue that MR is the best of the worst ranked?

Thunderball sits in that category where not enough people vote it high enough so it sits in that congested middle ground. You're right that its ranking is quite low - personally I'd rank it higher than YOLT/LALD etc.

I love this ultimate AJB007 ranking of the films.

Here my thoughts:

All 6 actors are featured in the Top 7 with Craig missing the Top 6 as Connery has two on the top. Sounds logical to me.
In my personal ranking Connery has two films in the Top 7 as well, GF and  DN. Craig comes "last" as well from all the actors in my ranking.

Actor wise it's quite evenly spread. Dalton and Lazenby fairing best, but it's hard to compare him to the others that have at least double the amount of films.
Connery, Moore, Brosnan and Craig are all in the Bottom 4. It shows that no era has been perfect, Craig's tenure sees the same up and downs as the other's suffered as well.
Again Lazenby and Dalton are different. Laz had the great fortune to be in the arguably best Bond film. Dalton has a rather big if not huge following nowadays with the die-hard Bond fans that we are.

The order of films with each actor also makes sense to me:

- CR-SF-SP-QOS that seems to be mirroring general consensus.
- TLD-LTK is very logical as well.
- GE-TWINE-TND-DAD as well, if TND and TWINE could swap places easily.
- TSWLM-FYEO-OP-LALD-MR-AVTAK-TMWTGG makes perfect sense, if AVTAK, TMWTGG could swap places I guess.
- FRWL-GF-DN-YOLT-TB-DAF. I guess general consensus would be GF before FRWL. Overall it seems to make sense though. TB is the one film that suffered most in the long run with the fans and the general public I would claim.

If there is a film I had to pick I feel is treated unfairly by this ranking, it's TND. I truly believe that it belongs into the middle of things and I am convinced that with the general public Brosnan faires much better than with us die-hard fans. TWINE and TND especially. But even DAD I have seen in many public rankings further up, before QOS, DAF and AVTAK for instance. Just saying...

I got 9 out of the top 12 the same in my personal ranking. Not to shabby...as Connery would say. The ones not in my upper half are FRWL, CR and SF.
