Where did you read that?

It was in the article on MI6 which quotes from both The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline (sorry, when I read it I was in a hurry and missed the part about it being a rumour):

"Rumours circulated that MGM, proud of their Bond heritage and 50% ownership of the franchise, did not want Annapurna's name anywhere near the film, despite being in partnership to distribute. A compromise was found when the old United Artists brand was resurrected. MGM and Annapurna are equal partners on the new UA, the label under which Bond 25 will be released in the USA and Canada."

Could be a bunch of nonsense, but interesting none the less.

Re: Craig is back: Discuss Bond 25 here

It's a small tragedy that the longest running franchise is so badly managed. Has MGM never not been in debt or bankrupt or needing a bailout ?  What a company, eh! And now Eon have hooked up with another debt-ridden company - Annapurna. They sure know how to pick 'em!  ajb007/lol

I don't think a Disney Bond film is any guarantee of quality but I'm sure that studio would not have financial problems! Disney is a super efficient film studio. Warner Bros might be another home for Bond. I don't think the future for the franchise is with MGM or any other independent distributors.

Ironically, MGM is probably in the best financial shape than they've been in in years (primarily due to TV production). However, your point is very well taken. As far as Annapurna is concerned, I was under the impression that MGM had the final say on choosing a distributor not EON. I do think Annapurna was an odd choice to handle distribution in the US and Canada but I get the feeling they were willing to settle for less than the big studios who probably really wanted to sink their claws into Bond. I always hoped that MGM would sell their half of Bond to a studio like Warners, who had deep pockets and their own distribution while EON would continue on as the producers and film makers. I wouldn't even care if Disney bought out MGM as long as EON stayed on. It's amazing how many studio/production logos show up on the screen when the opening credits roll for a film these days. I kind of miss the old days when it was just the Warners, Universal, Columbia, UA, MGM, etc logo. I found it a bit disconcerting the first time I saw the MGM Lion roar instead of the UA logo before the Gun Barrel on a Bond film......I guess I was on to something  ajb007/frown .

You’re right, but I’d rather rather get one Bond film plagued by financial difficulties every 3-5 years than allow Disney (have you seen what they’ve done to Star Wars?) or Warner Bros (the DCEU is a total disaster) take the reigns. Yes, we’d get a lot more content. But would it make us any happier? I sincerely doubt it.

Re: Craig is back: Discuss Bond 25 here

I do believe that the Annapurna problem will get sorted out.....as my Dad used to say "Money talks and B.S. walks" and if Annapurna is unable to fulfill their financial responsibility as US/Canada distributor they will be out and another studio will be in. It may not be as sweet a deal with the new distributor for MGM/EON but it probably won't effect was ends up on the screen.

Re: Craig is back: Discuss Bond 25 here

I think Lucas just sold STAR WARS to Disney and walked away with a fat check to enjoy retirement.
Disney has absorbed other properties and kept the creators employed, maintaining their identity and creative control. I'm thinking particularly of PIXAR.

Part of the WB/DCEU problem may be that Warner in turn is owned by AT&T, cigarchomping execs who barely understand the films theyre paying pople to make, let alone the comic book source material.
At least Disney has it roots in cartoons, which may be why they seem to respect the source material with their MARVEL films.
So maybe Disney could absorb EON without interfering in what it does well?

Rogue One is the 2nd best Star Wars movie ever. The Force Awakens is as good as any of the original trilogy (which makes sense since it's a remake of A New Hope). Solo was pretty good. The Last Jedi was  . . . distressing.  Overall, not bad.

Though I was disagree with you, it’s good to see that there are some fans of the new films. I’m not sure that a ‘Disney-fied’ Bond film would fare as well.

Re: Craig is back: Discuss Bond 25 here

It is 111 days since Bond25 principle photography began on 28 April this year. Is there far less news about filming than other recent DC Bond films?

How much publicity had Spectre had at this point, for example? Spectre started filming on 4 December 2014, and 111 days later it was 25 March. During that time, these were 007.com's official Spectre news items.

13 Dec 2014 Statement on leaked script.

11 Feb A report on Lea Seydoux and Monica Belluci attending BAFTA awards with embedded BAFTA red carpet video.

12 Feb 2015 1min 49sec BTS video in Austria with cast and crew comments.

9 March 2015 Stephanie Sigman announced as new cast member.

17 Mar 2015 Teaser poster.

20 Mar 2015 Mexico filming announced.

23 March 2015 Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M announced.

27 March 2015 Spectre teaser trailer.

In comparison, in the last 111 days, 007.com has had;

25 April 2019 Announcement that principle photography was to begin on 28 April and embedded Live Reveal video.

22 May 2019 Daniel Craig ankle surgery news.

4 June Statement on Pinewood Studios explosion that damaged the 007 Stage.

25 June 1min Jamica BTS video with no cast and crew comments.

30 June Official photo and short statement on Daniel Craig location filming in Whitehall, London.

22 July Aston Martin cars in Bond25 announcement.

Comparing the two, after 111 days of filming, Spectre had one PR management announcement regarding the script leak, Bond25 has had two regarding DC's ankle surgery and the studio explosion. After 111 days, for actual official news about the film, Spectre had seven announcements, including one brand announcement, Omega. Bond25 has had four, including a brand announcement for Aston Martin. The Bond25 BTS was almost half as long and did not feature comments by cast or crew. So, substantially less news.

Bond25 has also had only six clapperboards while Spectre, and Skyfall, had a lot more. You could argue that Fukunaga's Instagram has made 'announcements,' but most of his pictures are not revealing anything new. I think only one of his posts revealed anything new and that was the fact they were to film in Scotland. https://www.instagram.com/p/B0iE8c6hEqo … _copy_link

Re: Craig is back: Discuss Bond 25 here

Considering the bad taste left by the Sony leaks during the making of  SPECTRE and with the difficult / problematic pre production of Bond 25 and nasty tabloid fodder, I would imagine EON are continuing to play things pretty close to the vest during production.  It seems that anything the tabs get their hands on is turned into negative spin about the "doomed production". Unfortunately, these days bad publicity during production puts people into the mind set that the film is probably bad and that can't help box office.

Re: Craig is back: Discuss Bond 25 here

Bond25 might be following Skyfall's approach to publicity. For the 111 days after principle photography (7 Nov 2011) there were only three 007.com announcements until 26 February 2012. Nb. We are (as of 17 August 2019) 111 days from Bond25's principle photography. Twitter was used for releasing the Skyfall clapperboards and there were clapperboards during the first 111 days.

3 Nov 2011 Skyfall title reveal press conference with cast members.
7 Nov 2011 Skyfall principal photography start announced, along with additional cast member announcements for Helen McCrory and Ola Rapace.
28 Dec 2011 A 44 second video announcement by Michael Wilson which has some BTS footage in it.
9 Jan 2012 Thomas Newman announced as Skyfall composer.
1 Feb 2012 First official photo
21 Feb 2012 First videoblog focusing on Sam Mendes.

Like Skyfall, Bond25 has had an official photo (DC in Whitehall, London) and a BTS video in its first 111 days.

So, what further publicity can we expect for Bond25? Beyond the rumours of a late August Matera, Italy press conference, Global James Bond day title reveal and late October teaser trailer release, from 26 February until the London premiere, Skyfall had the following (not an exhaustive list);

29 March Bérénice Marlohe and Naomie Harris videoblog.
10 April 2012 1min 10sec Naomie Harris focused BTS videoblog.
29 April 2012 2min 32sec Videoblog announcing Bond filming in Turkey with Istanbul press conference footage.
14 May 2012 Q&A with Naomie Harris on 007.com
21 May 2012 Teaser trailer released.
6 June 2012 Omega announced as Bond's watch in Skyfall.
12 July 2012 It's announced that Q is returning with Ben Whishaw playing the gadget inventor.
7 Aug 2012 Skyfall:Bond on set book announced
16 Aug 2012 London filming videoblog.
7 Sept 2012 Royal premiere date announced
27 Sept 2012 Skyfall TV spot released
30 Sept 2012 Underwater videoblog
1 Oct 2012 Adele officially announced as theme singer.
4 Oct 2012 Skyfall locations videoblog
16 Oct 2012 Skyfall music videoblog

The Skyfall publicity machine did seem to speed up from March. The 29 March 2012 was 144 days from the start of Skyfall production, and 144 days from 25 April 2019 is 16 September. I think it's interesting to note that they started filming in Turkey for the PTS in April and the publicity seemed to increase about then. I wonder if a late August Matera press conference might be the kick off point for videoblogs about Matera and then in the weeks leading to Global James Bond day, videoblogs and other announcements related to the filming they have been doing, and probably a new Omega watch?

Re: Craig is back: Discuss Bond 25 here

Sounds reasonable. Certainly the big holiday movie season (Thanksgiving through New Years in the States) would be prime time for a trailer. I am guessing the first teaser trailer will drop in an "exclusive to IMAX theaters" deal and then the first full trailer will premier on February 2nd during the Superbowl telecast.....which is considered a big deal. I would think that teaser posters should start showing up in multiplexes during the late fall.

Those are probably Universal's US release dates. They aren't distributing NTTD in the US.

Well......not yet anyway. I wonder if there has been any resolution of Annapurna's financial problems? Last thing I read was that
Larry Ellison was negotiating with the banks to restructure the studio's debt. Ellison is worth 72 Billion. He could afford to distribute No Time To Die in the US by himself......
