Did you manage to do anything about Connery's rubbish wig?   ajb007/biggrin

But seriously, this is good news and for anyone who hasn't seen McClory Again I do recommend it. It wasn't my fave Bond movie (or anyone's probably) but 007HomeVideo's improvements make it quite watchable (I doubt he'll be using that quote on the posters...)

One snag was the poor visual quality and that has now been rectified.

How do I see this? Been wanting to for many years. I'm guessing it's a PM situation?

Wonder if it boasts a new score exclusive to this. A very talented guy did some samples of his own scoring, showcased on YT, and they're really great!

I just found this:

It's much better than the edit with the EON Bond films' music. When music from other scenes is played through NSNA, it reminds me how much better the scenes the music was originally written for are. And using different cues from different Bond films with different styles of music just feels jumpy and inconsistent. But original 1980s-Barry-style music in NSNA really elevated that scene.

I love watching the attack, with they guys holding their ears. As I imagine they've just heard
M Legrand's god awful score  ajb007/lol

Yes, that was the one I was refering to, earlier. And you're right, a fitting score can really elevate the material greatly.

That being said, I did like some cues in the original NSMcA cut where the cues did fit together well, most noticeably the YOLT and MR bits in the chateau, when Bond finds Nicole killed. And I like Bond '77 in the bike chase, despite not being liked by most fans.

I like all those cues, and I like the films where they came from. But when they are put into NSNA all I can think of are the films where I first heard the music, and all those different style of music are jarring, especially Bond 77. I highly prefer NSNA with Legrand's music over cut-and-paste music, even if Legrand's music is inferior Bond music. Music from other films was a huge distraction when watching the edited version. Far more than Lawrence of Arabia was in TSWLM.

On a completely different note, our PM system is operational and easy to use.

A more balanced compromise for a fan-edit, I think, is this: The classic Connory gunbarrel, and it starts with an edited rendition of Legrand's ommited intention for it, until Bond shoot, where a 60's rendition of the Bond theme would appear. The rest of the film would be the Legrand score, with occassional sprinkles of cues from the past for the sake of giving the impression this is the same Bond as not only Connery of old, but also Lazenby and Moore. And most importantly, the 007 theme in the climactic fight. I think this would both represent the score intended for the film, such as it is, but also the most included Bond elements Legrand would surely had used had he been allowed to.

I certainly 'get' where you are coming from. NSMcA is merely a fan-edit put together by, well, a fan who thought it'd be a bit of fun and nothing more.

However, I disagree with the phrase, 'cut-and-paste music'. The majority of the music cues were not just slapped under the existing NSNA soundtrack in the hope they would 'time out' nicely. Considerable time was spent on editing the 'new' cues so they would match the on-screen action.

This editing included condensing, or extending a track via careful cutting, trimming, and mixing. Certain 'new' passages are actually blended tracks from the same 'film' soundtrack e.g. Bond discovering Nicole's body combines elements from two YOLT cues.

Additionally, in the parts of NSNA where Legrand's originally was, the 'sound effects' track had to be reconstituted from scratch because when you remove music, sound effects go with it.

That said, I certainly acknowledge that NSMcA is not everyone's glass of vodka-martini.

Re: Never Say McClory Again (NSNA fan edit) - HD Version Released

With so long between Bond films, the neutral fan could certainly do worse than get hold of a copy of this 'new' Bond film. I do wonder if the person behind it might not put a new score over a movie like For Your Eyes Only?
Personally I'd like to see Michel Legrand's score pasted over Moonraker!   ajb007/biggrin

Re: Never Say McClory Again (NSNA fan edit) - HD Version Released

I'd like to have seen Legrand's music GE!

But seriously, there is a good argument about keeping Legrand's score in the said film. I just think some Bondian theme do need to be added, like the 007 theme in the climactic Tears of Allah scene and of course, the Bond theme throughout. I'd be tempted to do it myself, actually, if I had at all the time.

Re: Never Say McClory Again (NSNA fan edit) - HD Version Released

They need to make an official director's cut of the movie. There are a few articles from the director about cut scenes that could be included.

"Better late than never."

Re: Never Say McClory Again (NSNA fan edit) - HD Version Released

They've been banging on about that for decades. Since then, most of the key participants have died, such as Kershner and McClory.
Connery doesn't care about it.
And EON hate the film.

I don't see anything coming of this film. If EON sell the Bond franchise, maybe the next owners would be more interested in doing something with the film. But I honestly don't imagine anyone would be able to salvage the film.

Re: Never Say McClory Again (NSNA fan edit) - HD Version Released

Yeah, salvage this film, because it's such a dreck... to those who dislike the film a great deal, and certainly not those who do like it.
