Topic: What's the biggest fall in quality from one Bond film to the next?

Think my vote has to go to QoS after the tremendous CR. My shared no.2 have to be Thunderball following Goldfinger and Spectre following Skyfall. Craigs tenure as Bond is truly one of highs and lows.

I don't think SPECTRE, in spite of its flaws, is that bad. Instead I'd like to nominate OHMSS to DAF.

Re: What's the biggest fall in quality from one Bond film to the next?

Yeah I saw the title and was going to say QoS. I think it’s the worst Bond film, sandwiched, bizarrely, between two which could compete for being the very best.

Other than that, I guess Diamonds is quite a tumble.

DAF, hands down. This movie is so unexotic, full of wasted opportunities and a lacklusture remake of the golden Bond-times, it‘s hard to believe it succeeded OHMSS, one of the very best.
It had so much potential, but nothing was done. A tired Connery chasing after stones with the most unerotic Bond-girl in boring Vegas? Meeh...

The name is Walker by the way.

Re: What's the biggest fall in quality from one Bond film to the next?

I do agree DAF is a great contender, and there's a massive difference between the two.For me, I guess it came down to me holding Goldfinger, CR and SF in higher regard than I do OHMSS, which ranks nr.12 in my list.

Re: What's the biggest fall in quality from one Bond film to the next?

What do you think is the biggest rise in quality from one movie to the next?
I think it's DAD to CR, from one of the very worst to perhaps the best.

I agree with many about the fall off between OHMSS and DAF.

For biggest jump up in quality, I'm sure many will say QoS to SF, but I actually really enjoy QoS for what it is and thought Craig was at the top of his Bond game in it. DAD to CR is a great call imo. But, personally, I have to go with MR to FYEO or AVTAK to TLD. I honestly can't remember the last time I watched MR or AVTAK. But FYEO and TLD get regular play in my house.

This excellent topic is misplaced in the Bond25 forum, so I'm moving it to the Films forum.

Boy, the quality has really fallen since the move to the films forum  ajb007/wink

Yes, the drop for the last few minutes is obvious  ajb007/shifty

Re: What's the biggest fall in quality from one Bond film to the next?

Biggest quality drop? On Her Majesty's Secret Service to Diamonds Are Forever or The Spy Who Loved Me to Moonraker.

Biggest step up? Moonraker to For Your Eyes Only.

Re: What's the biggest fall in quality from one Bond film to the next?

Im of the same opinion as Canoe2 about QoS, I really enjoy it, the drop in quality for me happens from ohmss to Daf, despite me enjoying Daf it just comes accross as a totally different style of film. The most obvious for me is Twine to DAD, such a shame this happened on Brozzers watch.

It was either that.....or the priesthood

I think I‘m the only one who thinks Brosnan‘s films got better with each installment.  ajb007/lol

Re: What's the biggest fall in quality from one Bond film to the next?

I'd probably say TWINE to DAD.

I really like many of the films that people don't care for. I like DAF and I love MR.

While I'm not much a fan of QOS, I don't think it's worse than CR.

Re: What's the biggest fall in quality from one Bond film to the next?

On Her Majesty's Secret Service to Diamonds Are Forever is defiantly a step down in quality. Had they gone with another writer it would have turned out better. Also Wint and Kidd are too goofy to considered a threat to Bond at all. Gunther in OHMSS despite his limited dialogue and scenes really was a threat. Another big problem with Diamonds is all of the jokes, many of which are not that great to begin with.

Re: What's the biggest fall in quality from one Bond film to the next?

OHMSS to DAF, imo.

And I agree with N24, biggest step up will be DAD to CR

Re: What's the biggest fall in quality from one Bond film to the next?

I watched Diamonds a couple of weeks ago and I’ve never enjoyed it less. So little actually happens in it and it actually feels like a plod, and there isn’t one standout scene in it. Some good lines, but that’s about it.

Re: What's the biggest fall in quality from one Bond film to the next?

Biggest drops in quality:

OHMSS down to DAF

Moonraker down to FYEO  (Easily the biggest drop. Literally my #1 favorite to my least favorite)

TWINE down to DAD

Re: What's the biggest fall in quality from one Bond film to the next?

OHMSS to DAF as most other users have pointed out. The latter is a horrid movie that shouldn't have been made, and the only other Bond flick I feel that way about is DAD. Even QOS has some redeeming qualities about it, flaws and all.

While I am probably going to get a lot of hate for this, LTK to GE. I for one have never been a Pierce Brosnan fan when it comes to James Bond. He is a great actor but I never liked his portrayal of Bond that much, since he is EXACTLY what Judi Dench described him as in that GE scene and I feel he tries to copy Connery and Moore too much. I just felt that something was lost after the 80's and while GE is decent at best, I have never been a huge fan. Sadly for me, LTK is the last true Bond film of the series. I don't mind CR, SF and SP but they're not amazing films, and I am not the biggest Daniel Craig bond fan either.

Re: What's the biggest fall in quality from one Bond film to the next?

Goodness, there's a lot of hate out there for DAF.
Biggest drop in quality? Really? Is it that bad? I must assume this is only because OHMSS is so very, very good.

Re: What's the biggest fall in quality from one Bond film to the next?

Great topic! I would say the biggest drop is Skyfall to Spectre, with OHMSS to DAF being a close runner up. SF to SP just pips it for me because I feel that despite its faults DAF is a more satisfying movie than SP, which is the most frustrating film in the series for me.

Whereas DAF is nowhere near as good as OHMSS, but it totally works as a stand-alone film.

Re: What's the biggest fall in quality from one Bond film to the next?

Nothing quite beats OHMSS to DAF, I think. Although GE to TND sorta comes close, but at least Brosnan's good as Bond, whereas I can't say in all honesty that Connery's better than Lazenby in DAF (even if he's clearly enjoying himself more than the latter). Come to think of it, QOS is a pretty huge drop after the powerful CR.

DAF for me also.

Yes OHMSS to DAF comes to mind, also CR to QOS is a contender for me.

LALD to TMWTGG just popped into my head.
