Re: Post-Craig speculation about rebooting

If Apple ends up buying MGM, as the latest rumours have it, I think we'll see a very different Bond. I'd love to see an adaptation of the Warren Ellis comics, as both Vargr and Eidolon were excellent. But I'd opt for a generic, not-so-continuity-heavy Bond, just being assigned a mission and fulfilling it. If we could give a rest to the "rogue agent" trope, that would be also great. So far we've had Bond resigning in CR, being disavowed in QoS, being seemingly killed and brought back in SF, acting without official orders in Sp and being brought from retirement in NTTD. Please let the man have a proper job for one friggin' film.

I don't know what turn the films would take if Apple bought out MGM and partnering with EON.....but one thing I do know, EON's ongoing MGM financial aggravation will no longer be an issue....... ajb007/smile and Bond will always be seen using Apple products ajb007/lol .

"Last good Bond was CR" All I can say to that was WOW. Sky fall was a Bond Masterpiece and has the 1Billion box-office to prove most people agreed.

I think the Craig-films are too much a universe of their own to be just taken over and „continued“ by the next actor. So a soft reboot seems the likeliest to me.
They should at least keep M and Moneypenny, Q should again be an older man (than Bond).

In general, the future of the franchise is a thread worth alone. With the long hiatuses/ production issues and the current mixed received end products (last good Bond was CR), it will at least be difficult to keep up the public interest in a long term.

Doing the right thing and going a more traditional way (1962-2002) could totally make the difference.
The majority of people say they miss those times (especially non-Bond fans), so why not go back...

How about re-cast Bond and keep the rest of the cast. Maybe down the road you can replace characters like Moneypenny and Q. Different actress playing the part of M's secretary. She can be named anything but could be given the nickname of Moneypenny as a wink & nod to the past. The same with Q, any actor or actress with anyname. Q is more of a title, than a name. That way Bond can stay the same while the others age and move on to retirement or maybe even death.

What about recast everyone else, but keep Craig for one more film after NTTD? ajb007/insane

Re: Post-Craig speculation about rebooting

Option 3 would be Dynasty-level soap opera- I think it would just get laughs. So unless they did it as a nudging joke, I don’t think it would work.

Like Doctor Who, I think people accept that the actor changes but they are all the Doctor. I’m aware it’s slightly different in that they have more distinct personality changes, so they’re different versions, and the science-fiction context makes it more ‘believable’- however, it’s not as if Bond never changed as a character. They (hopefully) won’t just cast someone who would be a Craig clone.

I think they might keep Ralph Fiennes, or if not, replace him with another older respected actor- particularly if they go for an unknown as Bond.

Re: Post-Craig speculation about rebooting

Daniel Craig's Bond is so odd with the timeline and events that I believe the series has to be rebooted afterwards. Besides the paycheck, not many actors would really want to play Bond at this point with Daniel Craig's series baggage. Nolan wants to direct a fresh start. I'm sure the actors that would want to work with him would agree. I would bet that Henry Cavill would want a fresh start if he took on the role.

So I say complete reboot and re-imagining of many of the stories in the books. They could do Moonraker right.

I can't believe there's any shortage of actors who'd give their right arm to play Bond. And the right actor, such as Roger Moore, wouldn't flinch even given the legacy of Sean Connery if they have the chance to stamp their own personality on the role.

I am actually at a loss of what they are even going to do with the bond film series after DC leaves. I know that they have just replaced and carried on in the past, but times have changed since then and I don't think today's audiences would buy into a new actor replacing craig as if nothing ever happened, with the other characters reacting to him as such. I could be wrong, but I'm just not sure if I can see it? Q, M, and Moneypenny would all be aging, while bond gets younger? It worked then, but not so sure that audiences would accept it today, especially considering that the DC tenure is far more strict with continuity than the other tenures IMO.

Here are the possibilities of what could happen in post-craig bond:.........

6 - A reboot, but this one being a period piece, ie bond set in the 50's/60's. Q, M, and Moneypenny kept as they are.
7 - Same as above, but with Q, M, and Moneypenny being re-cast as well.
.....

I'm all in for these two options. It should be quite enough to end all this nonsense about "Bond being out of date". If this happens, my vote for the next James Bond goes to Tobias Menzies, but alas I am afraid it is not going to be.

I try to live by the wise words of James Bond: "Worry is dividend paid to disaster before its due", but current times make this very hard indeed....  ajb007/crap

Re: Post-Craig speculation about rebooting

OH!!!

Why didn't I see it right away!? It's so obvious what should happen!!

Bond producers should hire the people scripting Archer and go all in with booze, girls, gadgets, gags and all out outrageousness!!!

They could even bring back  Judy Dench to play M (for Mother) and Lashana Lynch would have a proper role in it too!!!  ajb007/lol  ajb007/lol  ajb007/lol  ajb007/lol  ajb007/lol

I mean, Roggie did almost all of it already, he even was the Original user of Tactleneck!

Can you sing "Danger Zone"
