Topic: What Handgun Will Bond Use in Bond 25? [Potential Spoilers]

Now that he's retired, it doesn't necessarily follow that Bond will be using the Walther PPK anymore.

Photos from the Jamaica shoot show him with a full-sized pistol I haven't seen confirmed.

It might be that he'll just use whatever weapon presents itself, but I thought I'd start this thread to gather some guesses, informed and otherwise.

The pistol in Jamaica looked like either a Browning HP or a 1911. Hard to tell from the pictures I’ve seen, but I think it’s one of those two.

Re: What Handgun Will Bond Use in Bond 25? [Potential Spoilers]

@ Miles Messervy I agree, I had a hard time figuring out what kind of pistol it was myself. I am pretty sure that the Walther PPK will also be making an appearance in the movie as well, even thought we have not seen it yet in any on set photos.

Re: What Handgun Will Bond Use in Bond 25? [Potential Spoilers]

I’m told PPK action is not going to happen much if at all. Expect Sig P226 mostly.

The one from the Jamaica set didn't look to be a 1911 at all.  Did have some resemblance to the Hi-Power though.

Re: What Handgun Will Bond Use in Bond 25? [Potential Spoilers]

Definitely a Browning Hi-Power. I wonder if the story has Bond using the speargun on a bad guy and appropriating the Browning from him or it's Bond's from the beginning...

Interesting. The P226 featured in QoS, SP and now NTTD. SIG has flown under the radar but it’s establishing itself as a Bond brand.

I suppose that’s better than a Glock, but if Bond is going full sized I wish they’d have chosen the PPQ instead.

Im thinking bond has the speargun when he detects someone in his house and that someone ends up being Felix.
The Browning high power was a staple for a lot of British military including special forces like the sas and sbs, it would be quite a good fit for a retired bond in this arc as like many of us from a certain he would have spent a lot of time with one in his military days.

It was either that.....or the priesthood

Re: What Handgun Will Bond Use in Bond 25? [Potential Spoilers]

Agree with Chriscoop that the Browning High Power would make sense as the weapon Bond has stashed in the house. For concealed carry, Sig makes a bunch of pistols that would make sense for Bond. My knowledge of firearms is barely rudimentary at best, but the P365, P235, P320, P229 and P239  all would appear to be good modern upgrades/replacements for the classic PPK. In fact, the P239, which is an already compact handgun further optimized for concealed carry, has a passing resemblance to the PPK. Ironically, if you go to the Sig website, if you look up the P226, the pistol is shown with a silencer looking very Bondian.

But the P226 is not a compact weapon. It’s a full-sized handgun that would be difficult if not impossible for someone with Craig’s frame to effectively conceal. I don’t think the Sig is meant to be a “replacement” for the PPK. And it’s not a modern update since the 226 is almost 40 years old. I thinks it’s more that Bond tossed the Walther - his service weapon - into the Thames at the end of Spectre and retired. The 226 is used by countless military and police forces around the world, so it would be easy to come by for someone like Bond.

P228 is the more compact Sig Bond would be familiar with.

Re: What Handgun Will Bond Use in Bond 25? [Potential Spoilers]

The walther pps or p99 compact would be better concealed carry handguns for Bond as would a myriad of others, but we are assuming he is using the sig in a concealed manner. The change from ppk to the p99 was not a great choice, yes it had the walther heritage with Bond and is a great handgun in most its variants but is such a big piece of kit it's difficult to carry about unnoticed (as we saw with Brozzer a few times)
If anything Bond could return to a Beretta as this was his original choice, something like the px4, which is quite a handsome gun as well.

It was either that.....or the priesthood

Well Glock would be going by the current UK forces service pistol route. Also, having shot all 5 (ppk, sig226, glock17 gen4, P99 and PPQ) my hands down personal favourite is the P99 although there are days when that sweet sweet Glock pointability could nab the favours. Having said that; PPK is the only real "agent" pistol of these all, even in real life.

Not just Bonds frame, but the cut of his suits wouldn't facilitate even concealing a smartphone, much less a handgun!

I think Bond's pistol should be small and consealable, for tradition and paractical reasons. Perhaps Sig Sauer p232 or Walther PPS M2 good alternatives?
But in the end the PPK is too iconic to replace completely, and we have to remember the gun is just as deadly now as in 1962. It's possible the best solution is Bond using the PPK for consealed carry and a service pistol sized Walther for combat missions where consealment isn't that important. Maybe P99 or PPQ?

I concur; if it has to be SIG then make it SIGP230/232? It has the looks and provenance suitable for Bond.

But other than being newer, is the P232 too simular to the PPK to be Worth changing to?

Well Bond has been known to carry P5 in previous outings, but I think that you are quite correct; for the film makers and most of the audience, the fact that PPK and P230 are different guns from completely different manufacturers is probably something that goes completely unnoticed and is therefore not worth the effort.

Here's a related question: what gun should Nomi (Lashana Lynch) carry?

Three more guns to identify here:

Centre one kinda looks like a Beretta ARX160.

I'd wager 2*Beretta M12 subgun and H&KG36 short. Although the right hand man could be toting a Beretta PMX or Walther MPK.

Good call on the PMX! That's definitely one on the left of the photo, the folding stock frame is the real giveaway. Also looks to be one on the right too. I would rule out the M12 and MPK since the trigger guard is higher than the mag well.

Quite right, I went for the M12 initially because to my eye, the guy on the left seemed to be having a forward pistol grip on his gun, but on the second look, I think there are 2 PMX guys.

Yeah, it was difficult to tell if there was a foregrip there or not. I think we can add the PMX to the list though ajb007/martini
