Re: Orlebar Brown 007 2020 Collection

There is a really good version of the cream linen suit from Mango at the moment. It’s £180 for the full suit. https://shop.mango.com/gb/men/blazers-f … lsrc=aw.ds

Re: Orlebar Brown 007 2020 Collection

OB seem to be increasing prices across other products as well. I have noticed that their version of the TF Polo - the Mallory Silk has been increased from £245 to £295. However, they have released a new version called the Mallory X which is at the old price point of £245 but seems to be even more of a closer version of the TF Polo with a waffle texture. May consider getting this as when they do release more stock of the Navy Mallory it will be at a higher price again.

At those prices I'm glad I've already got 60 pieces of OB clobber already  ajb007/lol

Yes. Considerably!

Re: Orlebar Brown 007 2020 Collection

For sure - i remember when they started out here in the UK and apart from the shorts the other clothes were reasonably priced - they were not really a luxury brand, nor could they claim to be as they don't have any serious fashion design pedigree. I think they are definitely aiming for that and there has been a marked strategy change since purchased by Chanel in 2018.

Both colours are nice.

Re: Orlebar Brown 007 2020 Collection

Finally catching up on the films I missed in our rewatches and Thunderball made me wonder why, seeing as OB are a swimwear company (although knit polos, linen suits etc are telling me they’re straying a long way from their roots), they haven’t made an attempt at an “inspired by” version of Bond’s TB orange wetsuit top? Maybe not in full wetsuit material, but I could see them do a rashie/rash vest/rash guard/swim shirt with a zip and a bit of a collar—if it wasn’t for OB’s outrageous prices I’d buy that. It features in some big parts of the film and on a few of the film’s posters/marketing material.

I purchase the Lincoln polo and actually liked very much.....for me it is a combination between the TF polo (design) and the Riviera polo from Sunspel (material)....

Geez you guys in the US get really hammered on the prices for OB stuff - cant believe the prices they charge!! $445 for the Mallory is crazy pricing.

Re: Orlebar Brown 007 2020 Collection

That was one of my suggestions when we were looking at ideas for this collection a while back.

Re: Orlebar Brown 007 2020 Collection

I don't think this is an influencer issue, unless the issue is they aren't listening to the influencers enough. Most of the folks on that scene would have steered them away from a lot of these decisions.

And maybe I'm generalizing, but this line seems to be a wide misfire where the first line was not. Screen-inaccurate choices, retreads of tops that Mason & Sons already covered for a fraction, and what feels like all around higher prices this time? Something went wonky internally is my guess.

I guess you saw Shawn's (aka James Brosnan) Instagram stories rant about Orlebar Brown's collection and their marketing team.

I didn't! I'll have to go look.

Mason and Sons have done a much better job of recreating the short sleeve camp collar shirts and at a fair price. I would go with them over this OB collection, even the linen suit could be recreated through M&S or elsewhere with better materials than what OB have used IMO.

Yeah, I'd much rather have the Mason & Sons camp collar for $114 than the OB for $295!

Re: Orlebar Brown 007 2020 Collection

OK, my local store got in a number of the pieces.  I went over today and tried them all on and bought some of them.

The items they have are:
1.  TB navy blue camp shirt: this is really, really nice.  I thought it'd be the same as the red one from the prior assortment but it's not.  The material is a tad stiffer and the fit feels like it may be a bit slimmer.

2.  TB blue/white striped camp shirt: Again, really nice.  I was on the fence initially but it looked quite good on me.  It's a really nice material and a good fit.

3.  TB gingham with the white collar: Hated it.  In addition to looking really stupid, the white collar is of a this terrycloth material that's replicated inside of the shirt, making for a really weird 'feel' when you try it on.  It's a botch of an item.

4.  MR l/s black polo: Very nice.  If you liked the TB l/s polo from the prior batch, you'll like this one.  I think the fit on this one is a tad more full that the TB l/s polo.

5.  OHMSS cream suit: It was ok.  I'd never wear it so I wouldn't ever consider buying it.  Also, it's more of a beige color than the ivory one worn in the film, so it really feels off.  I wouldn't call it a botch but I also think that they missed the mark here.

Anyways, I ended up buying the TB navy camp shirt, the TB striped camp shirt, and the MR l/s polo.  Why?  Because the entire store is 30% off for Father's Day and these weren't excluded.  I asked if I could post that they had these for sale and they said 'yes, absolutely.'  It looked like they had a full size run of the ugly gingham and the striped camp shirt, but they had limited stock of the other three items.  If you're interested, give 'em a call.  No sales tax in MN either.  You'll probably pay for shipping.

They have a bunch of other Orlebar Brown stuff as well, along with other brands.

I took pictures of all of the items.  I'll post 'em later.

OK, pictures.

The TB Navy Camp Shirt.  It's really a very beautiful blue color.

The TB Striped Camp Shirt.  This is the one that looked a lot better than I thought it would.
https://i.postimg.cc/K1vPT0KN/TB-Stripe.jpg

The TB Gingham Camp Shirt.  A complete botch, do not buy this.
https://i.postimg.cc/34g4VG4N/TB-Gingham.jpg

The MR Long Sleeve Polo.  Another one that I liked more than I thought I would.
https://i.postimg.cc/Q9kg5wqf/MR-Polo.jpg

The OHMSS Suit.  The lighting here makes it look a tad more gold/beige than it really is, but it's still not the right color for the screen accurate suit.  I didn't care for it.  It also didn't fit very well on me and would need some tailoring, and I'm not bothering with that when it comes to an OB product.

Gymkata, it's great to see these clothes on someone else. Thanks for sharing these photos.

I have the suit and the colour looks accurate when you see it in natural light.

Here's my version of the Lazenby Portugal suit.
Bespoke tailored by Navin's in San Francisco. The suit is linen, and wrinkles quite easily. IMHO arm holes were cut a bit low for my taste, and the button hole is too high, although I have a short torso, which is why my tailor put it there. Probably will have a second jacket made, with the higher arm holes for driving, and no padding in the shoulders.
Lining is also very high quality. A very comfortable suit for hot weather.
Cheers, Tom

They seem to have moved into the "throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks" phase of the line.

Because James Bond occasionally wore polo shirts and swim shorts, here are some unrelated polo shirts and swim shorts.

Re: Orlebar Brown 007 2020 Collection

Yesh, they've just taken to recoloring pics of the DR NO polo themselves at this point. They also mislabeled the DR NO and THUNDERBALL items on the email, swapping the titles  ajb007/lol

I love OB's product, but the increased price tag that allows them to add the 007 logo on a tag for items that are not even connected to a particular film or look is a bridge too far for me.
