RIP with Respect Mr Meddings. You put the BOOM!! Into Bond.

Re: AJB live commentary on LALD

Such an good villan deserves a death that's less comical.

Yaphet Kotto hated his death scene- see the interview referred to earlier

Earl Jolly Brown underplays Whisper nicely

Critics and material I don't need. I haven't changed my act in 49 years.

that was a fun interview.

And he's right, the ludicrous death undermines a lot of what's come before it.

Re: AJB live commentary on LALD

The train scene is loosely based on Fleming's novel

he should have been killed by the sharks instead.

As someone raised on Gerry Anderson shows, I can always spot Meddings' work in the Bond films.

Re: AJB live commentary on LALD

Hamilton really liked having a minor villain appear again at the end of the movie

not to mention, if somebody DID die like Kotto did, there'd be blood and guts everywhere.  Everyone would be covered in gore.

One of Moore's best fights

Second fiddle only to Mr Lonsdale as Drax.
Thing is,the way he is built he Looks dangerous.

Urgh, killed by a Fart gun bullet. A deflating balloon to Mr Koto’s ruthless and towards the end, delightfully demented Dr K.  Bond doesn’t need Gone with the Wind!

Yes, I can understand why Kotto felt that his character merited a different sort of exit.

This is one of the best end shots of any Bond film. Baron Samedi laughing.

Bond should have used the "fart bullet" on a shark instead.

Re: AJB live commentary on LALD

Although FRWL was the movie which started the mini-convention of rewarding viewers with a final, 'unexpected' skirmish after the movie's climax, it was Hamilton who really went with this idea... in GF, DAF, LALD and TMWTGG.  It was sort of abandoned afterwards, reverting to a more traditional approach to bringing the movies to their close.

What a great James Bond film! Unique in its atmosphere, a wonderful bunch of characters, Roger Moore effortlessly taking over the role of Bond.

Is the Baron the only supernatural character in a Bond film?

THATs the bit that tipped Me into my knightmares as a kid. Snakes, Voodoo, and scary “Mr Ha Ha Hur Man” who was killed earlier.   (Shudders).  Some things you carry into adult life....

This was brilliant!
