Re: AJB live commentary on THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN

Sir Christopher Lee! Excuse me while I dissolve into fanboy squee. An actor practically born to play a Bond villain- distantly sort of related to Ian Fleming, mentioned as a possibility for playing Dr No (don’t know how much truth is in that), a serious contender for best film villain ever.

James Bond Island!

Music “Scaramanga’s Fun House”  Brief sections of a jazz instrumental of the main theme can be heard. Barry recorded a full version for the album.

Rodney- surely the same character from DAF?

By the way, I have a third nipple.  I'm not joking.  It's on my right side about 4 inches below my right one.  You can't tell it's there unless you look closely at it, but the hair pattern around it is distinctive.

So yeah, I shoulda been an assassin.

Gunbarrel. First outing (in a film) for Barry's symphonic arrangement of the Bond theme. In 1974 this seemed fresh and new; by 1987 (and probably by a film or two before TLD) it was seeming rather stale.

Yes, agreed- he should have changed the arrangement more than he did.

I‘ve written a long article about James Bond island here:

Oh, in the upcoming sequence when Rodney is traversing the maze: watch for the Capone figure that comes out.  He's obviously not a mannequin as he blinks when he shoots.

Re: AJB live commentary on THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN

Obviously Lee dominates the PTS, building up his character as a deadly assassin.

Re: AJB live commentary on THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN

Maud's legs make for an arguably more spectacular PTS even than TSWLM's PTS.

Parked on the kitchen table.

This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

I think the cowboy mannequin was played by one of the stunt arrangers.

I like this PTS. It's bizarre in a way Fleming would have liked.

The way Nick Nack says "your little golden gun" sounds like there should be a big one as well.

If you love Barry, get a decent Soundsystem, folks!

It makes a massive difference imo

I like it in that it sets up Scaramanga as a real force to be reckoned with.  Bond needs a strong adversary in order for the stakes to matter or have any real weight, and what's presented here is really solid in terms of setting things up.

This is definitely Dracula meets Bond: Lee was still very closely identified as the Count at this stage (even though he'd recently finished his last Hammer Dracula).

"Oh, it's a wooden model of Roger Moore"
"Or perhaps the real Roger Moore- it's hard to tell"

A joke from "The Goodies"

Re: AJB live commentary on THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN

More phallic lyrics from Don Black, more justifiably this time (Fleming even  comments on the gun as a phallic symbol for Scaramanga in his book)

I'm surprised we can see Scaramanga reflected in a mirror.
